    1. Mystery Squadron is also a serial. You notice the bigger star vehicles I’ve seen were seen further back in time. Now we’re reduced to the odd obscurities and B westerns,

    2. Hey Dan
      1. 137 movies?……that is a massive amount of movies.
      2. I guess the big question is….how many do you remember?
      3. The other day I was doing a Letterboxd.com review on Daddy’s Home 2……after doing the review I noticed that I had a review on Will Ferrell’s Superstar…..I have no memory of watching that movie…even with me reading my own review….granted that was over 3,000 movies ago….but it was just in December of 2014.
      4. Looking at your list and my table…we have roughly 66% of the same movies…..they were producing lots and lots of movies back then.
      5. Thanks as always for sharing your amazing list of movies watched.

  2. I have seen 42 films from 1933.

The highest rated film I have seen is Cavalcade at Number 1.

The highest rated film I have NOT seen is State Fair at number five, making this the second year where I have missed seeing one of the top 5 movies.

The LOWEST rated film I have seen is What, No Beer? at 125.

The totals of my viewed movies by tens until I hadn’t seen at least one went to 90th. They went like this:
    9 of 10
    15 of 20
    21 of 30
    23 of 40
    26 of 50
    31 of 60
    35 of 70
    38 of 80
    39 of 90

The remaining 3 movies were spread out.

    My favourite ten movies are:

    42nd Street
    The Invisible Man
    Dinner at Eight
    Gold Diggers of 1933
    The Kennel Murder Case
    Footlight Parade
    Bombshell
    When Ladies Meet
    King Kong
    She Done Him Wrong

    1. Hey Flora
      1. Thanks for the great breakdown of the 1933 movies you have seen.
      2. Your 42 almost beats my total of 11…..4 times.
      3. Seeing 52% of the Top 50 is impressive….as is 75% of the Top 20.
      4. Of your favorites…I have seen 4 of them…with King Kong and She Done Him Wrong being amongst my favorites.
      5. My first miss is right at the top…Calvade is one of the few Best Picture Oscar winners that I have not seen…..my last hit is…John Wayne’s Somewhere in Sonoma.
      Great feedback as always.

  3. Hi Bruce, congratulations for all your work, it’s really fantastic!
The original King Kong is one of my favorite movies!
I’m really glad you publish the adjusted worldwide box office and I hope you’ll do it for all other years, even on old pages …

I just have a suggestion: could you specify the year or the price of the ticket that you used to make the worldwide adjusted gross?… Because I imagine that this table is not automatic and that after a while it will be necessary to update everything … If you specified next to the table the year used for inflation adjusted, things would be simpler, in the long run we could compare the films of different years without any lag…

I am sometimes a little picky lol but I am really passionate about this subject; compare the movies and hope that one day we will have all the missing information of the pre box office mojo era …. Thanks to you, it’s soon the case …

    Continue like that !

    1. Hey Karen….thanks for the kind words. Glad to include the worldwide grosses. Of our classic movies…almost 40% have worldwide grosses. Sorry King Kong is not one of them.

As for the price of ticket……I think the more important numbers to remember our…..the rental to gross percentage…and what the current price of today’s ticket is….currently our average movie ticket price is $8.97…..we had moved it to 2018’s projected price of $9.18…..but decided to move it back to the actual average of 2017.

The percent of rental to gross can be found at this website…..https://www.ultimatemovierankings.com/sorry-i-was-so-wrong/

As for the actual ticket cost…..that is somewhere in the database….that is away from me…..WoC does use the price from this website http://www.natoonline.org/data/ticket-price/

Thanks for the visit and the comment.

      1. Thanks for the explanations ! ….

But it’s very surprising that WoC use the Nato annual average ticket price because many years are missing from their list unlike box office mojo which has almost the price of all the years since 1910….http://www.boxofficemojo.com/about/adjuster.htm

She may have other sources but it could be useful 😉

        Thanks !

  4. 1 With these annual reviews you are currently reminding me of a submarine that gradually but surely lowers itself onto the ocean bed- ie you are persistently moving toward the lower end of your 1929/30 -1969 immediate goals for completed reviews!

2 We’ve both acknowledged that as you continue to approach the lower-end target the number of films we have actually seen keeps dwindling so just for fun I will record that of your Top 10 best reviewed 1933 films I have again seen only 4 – Duck Soup [many times!] King Kong [probably nearly everyone has seen that!] The Invisible Man and 42nd Street. I used to have in my music collection Ruby Keeler singing the title song from the latter movie – “Naughty, bawdy 42nd Street” – but somewhere along the way I lost that recording

3 I actually taped the Keeler number along with Rudy’s musically awful but fascinating Kashmiri Song/Pale Hands I Loved from a radio novelty request programme. I also got William’s Shatner’s crazy rendition of the Beatles’ Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds from that source.

4 Anyway a Lensman “Vote up!” rating for your comprehensive 1933 Review and a feather in your cap for not getting just domestic grosses for that year but a number of worldwide ones as well from those now distance days. Keep up the good work.

    1. Hey Bob
      1. Thanks for checking out our latest yearly page.
      2. I find as I get closer and closer to 1930…the more I want to wrap up this decade…..though when doing this page…I realized there are about 20 more 1934 movies that in the ledgers that I did not include. So I guess when the sub reaches the bottom we will quickly rise.
      3. My tally actually went up this year compared to 1934……but my 11 is pretty weak. But I agree with your point.
      4. Ah….the musical talents of Billy Shatner….gotta love it.
      5. Thanks for the votes up.

  5. Hi Bruce,

Another great job you did for 1933 and 1934. And thank you for putting the worldwide grosses that I find always very interesting. Unfortunately I have not seen many films of these two years (9 for 1933 and 10 for 1934). It is not always easy to find them in France.
by the way, I wanted to tell you that I find your new feature “Search” really well done. Congratulations to WoC I suppose.

    1. Hey Laurent…..thanks for the kind words. No problem about the worldwide grosses….I went back and added in the 1934 worldwide grosses recently. So your tally for this page is 9……that might beat me….let me see….counting….11…..so a little ahead of you. Actually the new “Search” was me…….as I found that widget and added into the pages….maybe the greatness of WoC is finally rubbing off on me….lol.
