  1. NOTE

    1 In the co-star links columns of the relevant Annual Reviews Lou Costello is airbrushed out of ALL the Abbot & Costello films. Lou is mentioned in the title columns for some of their flicks but is not mentioned at all for Buck Privates Come Home and Mexican Hayride for example.

    2 This is the reverse of,and indeed goes further than, Lou’s rejected request to Universal that the team be billed as Costello and Abbott

    1. Hey Bob….currently UMR is experiencing some serious behind the scenes issues. The only wayI can fix these errors currently is to make the table a non-dynamic page. The “Bud Abbott” was a way to sideswipe an issue that revolved around two actors with the same career. Since that page we have figured out a way to get Abbott & Costello to work versus Bud Abbott.

      WoC is busy doing Xmas stuff….so it might be a few days before we (ok…WoC gets this fixed). Even the Wesley Snipes page which was already completed (before the issues) took 3 hours to move from database to website…..it used to take 10 seconds…..very frustrating.

    1. Hey Li…my error of calling The Paradine Case…..The Paradise Case has been hanging around for years…..hopefully…..I have fixed that error for the final time and it will not pop back up. Thanks for the heads up.

  3. Hey Dan. Thanks for sharing your massive and detailed movie watched lists. Truly an impressive list of movies. So which year is your Top yeast? I do not have a breakdown by years the movie was made….but I did watch 1,418 movies in 2013. 🙂

    1. I saw 890 or so one year, probably 1991 when I first got cable. I saw 764 last year. I don’t list the ones I’ve seen in cinemas or ones made in the past year or so the same way, I list the older ones with the info, though I probably could put together a list for certain modern years.

  4. Hi

    Although movies were still making big money, I think the quality, especially among the top 10, wasn’t as good as the year before. Welcome Stranger is a pleasant enough movies about two doctors in a small town. Entertaining but easily forgettable. I think Unconquered and The Egg and I fall into the same category.
    Although it was highly praised at the time, Life of Father, I thought was so-so. Of course there was good movies like Black Narcissus in fabulous color. Two great Christmas classics, The Bishop’s Wife and The Miracle on 34th Street. Lana Turner had a great year but for some strange reason, she never appeared on the box office top 10 during that period in the 40’s when she was at her peak. The same for Barbara Stanwyck.

    1. Hey Chris
      1. I think Welcome Stranger was so popular was mainly because it seemed like a Going My Way sequel….it had Crosby and Fitzgerald….but instead of Fathers we get Doctors. Although it made a ton of money….it’s lasting impact is very very slim.
      2. I agree with you about Life with Father and The Egg and I….cute movies that have not aged well at all. I have not seen Unconquered.
      3. Black Narcissus is lovely to look at…..but the movie bored me to tears when I saw it a few years ago.
      4. I think if you went by actual stats….Quigley’s Top Star lists would make little or no sense at all. Lana Turner should have been in the Top 10 for this year.
      As always….it is fun to talk movies with you.

  5. hello ,
    after this weekend at Barcelona a little cold in fact, i am glad to see that page;
    i saw a lot of films but my favorite is Forever Amber with Darnell.
    Dark passage is a good film too and of course Kiss of death.
    Dietrich with Golden Earrings good box office but nothing to see with her film in the 30 years.
    And i have a specail feeling for Mrs MUIR with Gene Tierney because it was so romantic.
    About Crawford, for me she is wonderful in the 30 and in Grand Hotel she is at the top and largely before Garbo. But my favorite film with her is Strange Cargo with Gable.
    Thank you Bruce as usual for the page.
    i am waiting for 1932 Please and i am sure you have everything in your base;
    Have a nice day
    Pierre

    1. Hey Pierre
      1. Glad you had a good time in Barcelona….even though it was cold.
      2. I will have to dig out my movies from 1932 in the near future.
      3. Forever Amber was a huge hit for Darnell…..granted it was a very expensive movie to make.
      4. Bob will be glad to see another Joan Crawford fan.
      5. I have yet to see Strange Cargo….but I want to.
      Good feedback….welcome back.
