  1. Hello Bruce.
I’ve seen 98 of these film. A Fistful of Dollars was release in Europe in 1964 but wasn’t release in the U.S. until 1967. I first saw it in 1973. It’s co-feature was 1972’s The Godfather. I saw it at the Carson Twin Cinema in Carson, California. Quentin Taratino was going to this neighborhood theater right around the same time. I Love Jackie Brown because Taratino used several familiar Carson locations in his film.

    1. Hey Lyle….98 is probably the biggest tally….as Dan’s 106 includes movies that did not make our table…so congrats for holding the Top Spot…for now. You are 100% correct about A Fistful of Dollars….it does not make it’s Variety Top Grosser Annual list until the January 3rd 1968 list…..and it falls behind For A Few More Dollars. That is an interesting double feature…Fistful of Godfather. Interesting about Carson being in Jackie Brown….you have Jackie Brown…I have Navy Seals…..which was filmed around here…..I play at the golf course in that movie…and we eat at the Italian restaurant in that movie. Good feedback as always.

  2. My favorite movie of this year is Eastwood’s Fistful of Dollars. Sorry that it did not crack the Top 10. Fingers crossed that The Good, The Bad and The Ugly does.

    1. Hey Taylor….glad your favorite 1964 movie ranked pretty high….sorry it did not crack the Top 10….as for The Good, The Bad and The Ugly….a quick look at my 1966 movies….and I am happy to say it currently has a spot in the Top 5. Thanks for stopping by.

  3. I saw Mary Poppins as a kid, My Fair Lady on VHS just before I got cable in November 1991, A Hard Days Night and Dr. Strangelove in the Regency Revival Theater. These are the 106 1964 films I have seen since December 1992 when I saw picture #8000 of my life. You know the drill, key, film. studio, stars if I listed, date seen and source (DVD, tape or TV channel).

Lots of Hercules pictures and affiliated ones released this year.

    1. Hey Dan. Thanks for providing your 1964 list for 1964 movies. Your total makes my 31 seem very very small. You are without a doubt a movie watching machine. I have fallen behind in my 2018 movies watched list…..everytime I see one of your lists….I kick myself for not staying on top of the movies that I have seen. 106 1964 movies is a huge total. Looking at the movies on your list and comparing them to my list….it looks like I have about half of them on my page. Good movie memories of Mary Poppins and My Fair Lady. Thanks as always for taking the time to provide this information.

  4. Before my regular comment, I believe you have a duplicate in your list. Both Number 91 and 97 have the title Joy House starring Jane Fonda. 91 has the French title as well so maybe two versions were released, I’m not sure.

    I have seen 56 1964 movies.

I started out strong and then dropped off, but I did manage to beat Steve’s total. So Bruce you win your bet. However, once we get into the 1970s that is not going to always happen.

The highest rated film I have seen is My Fair Lady.

The highest rated film I have not seen is Beckett. Hmm. Another top 5 miss.

The lowest rated film I have seen is Kisses For My President at 116.

My viewing totals by percentage are as follows:

    9/10
    19/20
    28/30
    32/40
    36/50
    38/60
    44/70
    47/80
    51/90
    52/100
    55/110
    56/122

It was difficult for me to choose my favourites. I decided to do a top 15.

My Top 15 Favourite 1964 movies are:

    My Fair Lady
    Dr. Strangelove
    Goldfinger
    Fail Safe
    A Fistful of Dollars
    Mary Poppins
    The Train
    Marnie
    Your Cheatin’ Heart
    Dear Heart
    A Shot in the Dark
    Viva Las Vegas
    Seven Days in May
    The Unsinkable Molly Brown
    Zulu

    1. Hey Flora
      1. Thanks for the comment, visit, tally count and heads up on Joy House.
      2. I figured you would be topping Steve and myself….as your 56 does top the original tally people (you, Steve and me)….yet looking ahead I see that 56 might have a problem medaling.
      3. Surprised you have not seen Beckett……granted it was a one and done movie for me…..but seeing O’Toole in his prime is worth a look.
      4. My first miss is #10 Unsinkable Molly Brown (seen about 20 minutes of it) and #11 Carpetbaggers…..a movie I have been aware of almost my whole life…yet have never managed to watch it.
      5. 93% of the Top 30……pretty impressive…..you have seen 28 of the Top 30….I have seen 21 of those movies…..you destroy my totals when we leave the Top 30.
      6. I have seen 11 of your Top 15…..glad I included Your Cheatin’ Heart….it was a last minute inclusion…..thought that is one of my missing movies in your favorites.
      7. I really enjoyed Zulu, A Fistful of Dollars, Fair Safe, Viva Las Vegas and Goldfinger.
      Great feedback as always.

  5. 1964. Plenty of film favorites for moi that year.

I’ve seen 43 of the 122 films on the chart. Looking at my files I have 78 films from 1964 in my movie collection. I haven’t watched them all.

Favorites include – Becket, Disorderly Orderly, Dr. Strangelove, Fail Safe, Fall of the Roman Empire, First Men in the Moon, A Fistful of Dollars, Goldfinger, A Hard Day’s Night, The Killers, The Last Man on Earth, The Long Ships, Mary Poppins, Masque of the Red Death, Robinson Crusoe on Mars, Roustabout, Seven Days in May, 7 Faces of Dr. Lao, A Shot in the Dark, The Train, Viva Las Vegas and Zulu.

Good to see Dr. Strangelove top the critics chart. Mary Poppins was the biggest hit followed by Goldfinger and My Fair Lady.

FWIW here’s a list of films from Italy and Japan I have in my collection from 1964 –

    zz-Italy – Fistful of Dollars ,A
    zz-Italy – Minnesota Clay
    zz-Italy – Sandokan – Pirate of Malaysia
    zz-Japan – Attack from Space
    zz-Japan – Dagora
    zz-Japan – Ghidrah the 3 Headed Monster
zz-Japan – Godzilla Vs The Thing
    zz-Japan – Kwaidan
    zz-Japan – Onibaba
zz-Japan – Zatoichi 06 – Zatoichi and the Chest of Gold
    zz-Japan – Zatoichi 07 – Zatoichi’s Flashing Sword
    zz-Japan – Zatoichi 08 – Fight Zatoichi Fight
    zz-Japan – Zatoichi 09 – Adventures of Zatoichi

Another epic chart year Bruce, packed with stats. A big vote Up!

    1. Hey Steve
      1. Thanks for the comment.
      2. I was happy with my 31 movies seen, until I see your total of 43…..congrats….but I bet Flora will top that.
      3. I have seen the Top 9….I started watching The Unsinkable Molly Brown…but my free DVD from the library started messing up and I was not able to finish it…..but I liked what I had seen….and it was a musical!
      4. Lots of favorites for this page….I am right there with you with regards to Viva Las Vegas (my favorite Elvis movie), Zulu, Goldfinger, Fistful of Dollars, Fail Safe and Seven Days In May.
      5. 7 Faces of Dr. Lao was a pleasant surprise….the makeup job on Tony Randall was sensational.
      6. I like the silliness of Paris When It Sizzles…..Tony Curtis is very funny in an extended cameo.
      7. Other than Fistful of Dollars…..those movies from Italy and Japan did not make the page.
Good feedback as always…thanks for the kind words.

      1. Hmm. I’m surprised that there isn’t more information available for this site for the Godzilla franchise. What’s been the challenge for those?

        1. Hey Bobby….I just did a quick search in my sources…..and did not really come up with much….currently we have 5 Godzilla movies in our database….most were made in the last 30 years. So many of the Godzilla movies barely got shown in North America…..but as a kid they played on television all the time. But on the positive side….King Kong vs Godzilla has been added to the 1962 page….it’s adjusted box office is just over $41 million….then new version will destroy that number. Good feedback.
