Finding box office information for movies made before 1980 is not an easy task.   For somebody looking for box office information on 1966 it is very very frustrating.  Over the years, we have researched and collected information on over 36,000 movies.  So we figured we would show all the 1966 movies in our database.

To make this list a movie had to be made in 1966.   The movies are listed in a massive table that lets you rank the movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information.    This only represents about 25% of the movies made in 1966….but should cover the top box office movies.

    FYI

    Here is B.O. data I found on Pierre “Box Office Story” for Chamber of Horrors.
    It was released to movie theaters from September 4, 1966 thru October 23, 1966.
    Total B.O. gross was $310,000.

  2. Surprised to not find “Chamber of Horrors” on the 1966 list. An item on the IMDB states that “According to an article in the September 28, 1966 edition of Variety, this film was the second-most profitable film in release at the time.

  3. A minor point but the actual title to the sequel to THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN is THE RETURN OF THE SEVEN. For the DVD release, the studio added the word “Magnificent” to the packaging but the title of the movie onscreen is not changed.

    was nominated for an oscar.
    You might have missed it since at the time of nomination it was titled differently.
    “Return of the Magnificent Seven”
    You have the correct title, this is an oscar data correction.
