  1. I like the big colorful 1967 at the top of the page as 1967 is the most characteristic year of the flower power era, with films like The Graduate, Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, The Producers and The President’s Analyst evoking the changing morals, attitudes and fashions of the times. I never realized The Graduate was such a humongous hit, both in the US and internationally. 1967 was also the year Sidney Poitier became the first black superstar, with 3 major box office and critical hits.

Although I think 1967 was a interesting year for movies, I see that box office attendance continues to decline, and my own film count went down from 38 in 1966 to 29 in 1967. Still, a number of favorites here. My top 15 are (not in any order):

    Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner
In the Heat of the Night
    Cool Hand Luke
    The Dirty Dozen
    The Graduate
    In Cold Blood
    The Night of the Generals
    The Honey Pot
    El Dorado
    Point Blank
    Wait Until Dark
    Bonnie and Clyde
    The Jungle Book
    Hour of the Gun
    You Only Live Twice

While the Honey Pot has the lowest UMR score of these (it was a box office flop), it’s a delightful mystery comedy by Joseph Mankiewicz, with a great cast, witty dialogue and amusing twists.

I see that you have transferred The Born Losers from the 1966 to the 1967 page, but 1966 is now lacking a #12 😉

    1. My totals will be going down the more recent the years become. Interesting list of favourites. The ones I haven’t seen are Night of the Generals, The Honey Pot, and El Dorado. I’ll keep your mini-review on The Honey Pot in mind if the film ever becomes available.

    2. Hey PhilHOF17. I thought my total would start increasing….but it actually went down for my birth year…..it is confusing…..but that does not take much to do….lol. Poitier was a his peak this year….he never even came close to having this success again.

As Flora commented….your description of The Honey Pot makes me interested in finding it and watching it. I have seen 14 of your Top 15. I need to watch The Night of the Generals from beginning to end…..seen bits and pieces of that movie but not the entire movie.

Hmmmm….Born Losers and the #12 missing? Yep that was some of the gremlin’s work. Hopefully that will get fixed soon. Great feedback as always.

  2. Comment wiped out again. 72 1967 films seen for the first time since December 1992. Good Times which I’ve seen 5 times was first seen previous to this. Key – film, studio, stars if I listed , date seen and source (TV channel, DVD or tape).

    1. Hey Dan
      1. Thanks for the list….and comment.
      2. Sorry it had issues again…..not sure why it is still happening…..as generally things seem to be back to normal…..I will keep monitoring that comment box for errors.
      3. Good Times was one of the last movies to be added to the page……I had never heard of that Sonny and Cher movie. I guess with you watching it 5 times you must have been a fan of their tv show.
      4. 72 is tops in our tally contest…..but like you said….your tally would keep decreasing as we continue to march forward in time.
      5. Thanks as always for sharing this information.

  3. I have seen 45 of 1967 movies. So Bob Cox has me beat.

The highest ranking movie I have seen is In the Heat of the Night.

The highest ranking film I have NOT seen is The Born Losers.

The lowest ranking movie I have seen is The Double Man.

    The Producers
    Bonnie and Clyde
    The Way West
    In Like Flint
    The Jungle Book
    The Graduate

    1. Hey Flora….another win between you me and Steve…….so the yearly reviews are at my birth year……and the next one completed is your birthyear of 1976……gotta close the gap..lol.

90% of the Top 20 is pretty impressive. I am right there with you in tally % when looking at the Top 20….but then I fall off the cliff as we work down the rankings.

So all of Sidney’s trilogy make your favorite movies….he had a great year. I have seen 14 of your Top 15….only The Way West escaping me.

Good to see Bonnie and Clyde on your favorite list….especially since I do not think that is the type of movie you normally appreciate. Good feedback as always.

  4. I’ve seen 36 of the 118 films on the chart, less than I thought.

Looking at my database I have 87 movies from 1967 in my movie collection. I haven’t watched them all. Favorites include –

    Ambushers ,The
    Bedazzled
    Billion Dollar Brain
    Bonnie and Clyde
    Cool Hand Luke
    Custer of the West
    Dance of the Vampires
    Deadlier Than the Male

    Frankenstein Created Woman
    Graduate ,The
    Hour of the Gun

zz-Germany – Torture Chamber of Dr. Sadism
    zz-Italy – Danger Diabolik
    zz-Italy – Death Rides a Horse
    zz-Italy – Django Kill
    zz-Japan – Son of Godzilla

My favorite movie of 1967 is the James Bond movie – You Only Live Twice – which is also my favorite of Sean Connery’s seven Bond movies. Goldfinger in second place.

For some reason I have The Producers listed as a 1968 movie in my files. I’ve added it to my list of 1967 favorites.

In the Heat of the Night, Bonnie and Clyde and The Graduate top the UMR chart and Cool Hand Luke tops the critics chart. No real surprises there.

The Graduate was a huge box office hit, bigger than any Marvel superhero film so far in adjusted domestic grosses. Whoa thats impressive. Lets see how well Infinity War does.

    Top work Bruce. Vote Up!

    1. Hey Steve….thanks as always for checking out our latest page. Tally count 36 for you….30 for me and 47 for bob cox. I assumed that our totals would increase….surprised that they are getting lower. I have seen most of your favorites….with a few very unknown to me.

Night of the Generals is a movie I saw parts of many times when I was younger….not sure if I ever saw the whole movie…..it always left me confused. This was back in the days when I would see a movie on television…..you never knew when it would be back on.

The Producers was made in 1967…but had most of it’s box office success in 1968. Gene Wilder had two of his greatest movies in 1967…..granted his part in Bonnie And Clyde is small…..but memorable.

The Graduate was huge…..as big Infinity Wars is going to be…..it will not come very close to taking over The Graduate….actually if Infinity Wars reaches $700 million (huge total) is looking at a 30th place finish when looking at all-time adjusted grosses.

I remember you saying how much you liked this year’s Bond…..it is actually one of my least favorite Connery movies….I liked it…just did not love it. Good feedback as always.

    2. flora , great list. I only missed point blank of your favorites. a great year for james Coburn. in like flint and the presidents analyst(a must laugh movie). this was my first full year of movies after my parents made me stop watching the 3 stooges because I was talking like curly all the time. a movie buff was made. : ^ ) LOL. I turned 11 y.o. sept., 1967.

      1. Hey bob cox….funny story about you and Curly……I guess my question is…..Did it work?…Whoop Whoop Whoop Nyuk Nyuk Nyuk.

    3. Steve, good list . I missed a dozen of your favorites. I got a lot of catching up to do! what are the double z’s? where you saw them? foreign language? I missed all of those and another 12 off your list. awesome year. happy birthyear Cogerson.

      1. Hello Bob, that list was copied from my database, the double z’s are there so when in alphabetical order all the foreign language films are grouped together by country at the bottom of my index. I have over 900 foreign language movies here and that includes doubles, triples and quadruples too (Bruce Lee movies).

FWIW Japan tops my foreign language collection with 350 movies, that includes kaiju and anime movies. China is in second with nearly 300 (mostly martial arts) and Italy 3rd with just over 100 films.

From your favorites I don’t think I’ve seen Wait Until Dark and it’s in my collection, I should give it a spin.

  5. fabulous year, saw 47. including entire top 20. my all time favorites( top 100) include cool hand luke, the taming of the shrew, in the heat of the night, guess who is coming to dinner, the graduate, to sir with love. then lots of great and very good movies including ,for me, Audrey hepburn’s most challenging and scariest , wait until dark. thanks for a great site.

    1. Hey bobcox……this is actually my birth year…..so I have a lot in common with them…..lol. 47 has me beat……as my total is only 30…..I thought my totals would increase the closer we got to modern days….that sadly has not happened. I have seen 20 of the Top 21…..only missing out on Born Losers….which I have seen parts off…..but never from start to finish. Cool Hand Luke is one of my Top 100 movies too.

I see you mentioned all three of Sidney Poitier’s movies as your favorites….he had a great 1967…..besides Claudette Colbert’s 1934….not thinking anybody has a better trilogy of movies in a single year.

I agree with you about Wait Until Dark…..great performance from her as well as Alan Arkin. Thanks for checking out our latest yearly review.
