  1. 1979 was the first year I started going to the movies heavy. I started going to revival pictures also after seeing Ziegfeld Follies (1946) with Words and Music (1948) together and You Can’t Take it With You (1938) with Twentieth Century (1934) both double bills at the Regency theater. The following films by your number I saw in a cinema – 2 & 3 (both in revival theaters, I was not interested when they were current), 4 (only film I ever walked out on), 5,6,7 (first film I paid $5 to see),8, 10,11, 14 (sneak preview), 15, 16, 21, 22, 23, 24, 26 (sneak preview), 28, 29, 35,36, 40, 42, 43, 48, 54, 58, 61, 62, 64, 65, 68, 72, 89, 90, 94, 103, 106, 109, 112, 114, 116, 121, 122, 129 & 131. I skipped Kramer Vs. Kramer seeing it later on TV. I did not see Moonraker till it was on TV. For Your Eyes Only was the first James Bond film I saw while it was current in a theater (I saw 4 Sean Connery ones on double billed reissues). Rocky II I saw with Rocky on a double bill. Sunburn, Hot Stuff and Americathon I saw all in one night before I went on vacation.

    Since 1992 when I saw film #8000 for me the following 62 films from 1979 I have seen;

    1. Hey Dan
      1. Good list…..thanks for sharing it.
      2. Thanks for the breakdown of the movies…so you walked out on Alien…..very interesting….did you ever finish the movie?
      3. I had no desire to see Kramer vs Kramer in theaters either…and neither did my parents….so like you I first saw that movie on television.
      4. I like that we have most of your listed movies on the table….on the lists you shared for earlier lists…..I was missing way too many movies.
      5. I was into Roger Moore’s James Bond…..so I saw that one numerous times in theater….I recently re-watched that one…..I was very disappointed in that Bond movie….actually, today it is my least favorite Moore Bond movie.
      6. Sorry you saw Sunburn in theaters…that is far from a good movie.
      Good stuff.

  2. My birth year. Never saw these movies in theaters but saw them on VHS. Watched Meatballs, Love At First Bite and The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh all the time. Fun movies but realizing that they are almost 40 years old makes me feel OLD.

    1. Hey Travis. Glad you found and commented on our 1979 page. Well…..you are still in your 30s……enjoy them….because the 40s are coming fast…lol. The three movies are all fun comedies to watch. I actually saw The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh in theaters. Thanks for sharing your movie memories of 1979 movies.

  3. Oh, wow, Bruce. You’ve seen 67 movies from 1979. Interesting that you decided to skip to 1979. By the way, you still have “1972” in your second paragraph.

I have seen 24 movies. So as my numbers go down, it’s still a number in the 20s.

The highest ranking film I have seen is Apocalypse Now at number 2. I watched it for Martin Sheen. I have seen both this and the Redux version.

The highest ranking film I have NOT seen is Kramer vs. Kramer at number 1. My missing number 1 films is quite the pattern.

The lowest ranked film I have seen is Hanover Street at 109.

    My Seen Movies:
6 out of Top 10: I’ve seen Apocalypse Now, All That Jazz, The China Syndrome, The Jerk, The Muppet Movie, and Escape From Alcatraz

5 out of 11 to 20: I’ve seen 10, The Black Stallion, The In-Laws, Being There and The Moonraker

Wise Blood is a movie I saw that totally freaked me out. Among other things, the main character at one point wraps himself up in barbed wire. Ugh!

    My Favourite Movies of 1979:

    The Rose
    Star Trek: The Motion Picture
    A Little Romance
    Murder By Decree
    Being There
    The In-Laws
    The Black Stallion
    Life of Brian
    Moonraker
    Agatha

    1. Hey Flora
      1. Thanks for your tally, comment and visit…all are greatly appreciated.
      2. I see that 1972 error… I will fix it when I get back…good catch…and thank you.
      3. I was going to do 1973 next,…but I saw I had less work on 1979….so I jumped ahead a few years… that means we are 50% complete…when it comes to your birth decade.
      4. 24 is a decent % of the movies…..I was the perfect age for movies in 1979….and I saw many of these movies in theaters.
      5. I have only seen 6 of your favorites….but really liked Moonraker (though has not aged well), The In-Laws and Being There (what a performance by Peter Sellers).
      6. I have not seen Wise Blood…sounds like I am not missing much.
      Good feedback as always.

  4. Ah…..a good tally count…..I think. Put me down for having seen 67 of these movies. Many favorites.
