1995 Top Grossing Movies

To make this list a movie had to be made in 1995.  Obviously many movies made in 1994 earned box office dollars in 1995.  On the other side many movies made in 1995 made money in 1996 and later.   This page will looks at over 200 movies made in 1995.  The movies are listed in two massive tables that lets you rank the movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information.

Our UMR Top 50 of 1995

1995 Movies Can Be Ranked 6 Ways In This Table

The really cool thing about this table is that it is “user-sortable”. Rank the movies anyway you want.

  • Sort 1995 Movies by movie titles and movie trailers
  • Sort 1995 Movies by the stars or in some cases the director of the movie.
  • Sort 1995 Movies by domestic adjusted box office grosses using current movie ticket cost (in millions)
  • Sort 1995 Movies how they were received by critics and audiences.  60% rating or higher should indicate a good movie.
  • Sort by how many Oscar® nominations each 1995 Movies received and how many Oscar® wins each 1995 Movies received.
  • Sort 1995 Movies by Ultimate Movie Ranking Score (UMR).  Our UMR score puts box office, reviews and awards into a mathematical equation and gives each movie a score.

One of my favorite movies of 1995 is Jumanji.

    1. Hey Dan. To easily beat my total 1995 movies seen. Good information on the ones you saw overall and the ones you saw in theater. In 1995 my grocery career was near it’s peak in earnings and hours worked…so getting to the theater was not an easy task. Heck watching movies period was hard to do.

Sorry about the rankings being off….not sure what is going on with that but I will get that fixed when I get home….I think all the movies are here….just not in the right number order in that column. I will run an update on this page and get that fixed. Good stuff as always.

  2. I’ve seen 65 of the 247 films on the chart, less than I thought. Looking at my files I have 80 films from 1995 in my movie collection.

    Favorites include –

    Apollo 13
    Batman Forever
    Braveheart
    Casino
    Congo
    Crimson Tide
    Desperado
    Die Hard With a Vengeance
    First Knight
    Goldeneye
    Heat
    Judge Dredd
    Jumanji
    Mortal Kombat
    Outbreak
    Pocahontas
    Quick and the Dead ,The
    Seven
    Species
    Strange Days
    Tank Girl
    Toy Story
    Twelve Monkeys
    Under Siege 2
    Usual Suspects ,The
    Virtuosity
    Waterworld
    zz-China – Fist of Legend
zz-China – Rumble in the Bronx
zz-France – City of Lost Children
    zz-Japan – Godzilla Vs Destoroyah
zz-Japan Anime – Ghost in the Shell

Highest rated 1995 film I’ve never watched in it’s entirety is – Sense and Sensibility.

My most watched movie of 1995 – probably Batman Forever – followed by Goldeneye, Die Hard 3 and Toy Story.

Toy Story was deservedly the biggest hit of the year, should have been nominated for Best Picture instead of Babe.

Bruce, you’ve listed ‘The Englishman who went up a Hill’ twice on the chart. Listed with and without ‘The’ at the start of the title.

Another epic year listing Bruce, 15 movie years left? Vote Up!

    1. Hey Steve…thanks for the visit, the tally, the comment and the heads up on my dual Hugh Grant movie….fixed that error on this page and on Grant’s page last night. Only 65 seen and 80 in your collection… figured the closer we got to 2019 the higher your totals would go. I guess since my grocery store days my movie watching has greatly increased, Back then (1995) I was working very very hard.

Of your favorites…seen all of them except for a few on the international ones at the bottom of the list. I have seen Children of the Lost City. There is a very personal story about that movie….that I almost shared…but since it does not include WoC I am keeping it to myself. Though..I can not separate that movie from that period of my life.

Our mutual favorites would include Die Hard 3 (I still do not understand the answer to the water jug riddle), Twelve Monkeys, Toy Story, City of Lost Children and Crimson Tide. Good stuff as always.

  3. I have seen 18 movies from 1995.

The HIGHEST rated movie I have seen is Apollo 13.

The highest rate movie I have NOT seen is Braveheart.

The LOWEST rated movie I have seen is The Baby-sitters Club.

    1. Hey Flora. Thanks for checking out our 1995 yearly review page. 18 is not too bad of a tally. Especially since it is almost 20 years from your “movie cutoff” rule. Since all of the movies you have seen except for The Babysitters Club. Overall I have seen 136 of these movies. You, Bob and WoC are all The American President fans….I also like the movie just not as much as you all. Of my favorites you have not seen….I would suggest Twelve Monkeys and City of Lost Children. Good stuff!

  4. HI BRUCE. In connection with a private exercise that I have been doing over the past week I have been extensively referring to a large number of your previous annual reviews. As that practice will continue into the future a new annual review is always a welcome addition to the series and so it is with 1995 which is “Voted Up!”

1995 saw me well into continuing the practice of watching many movies at home via video and I have seen 15 of the highest grossing 25 movies in your tables above. My personal top 15 favourites in your charts are-

American President/Species/Sabrina/French Kiss/Forget Paris/Copycat/Leaving Las Vegas/Dolores Claiborne/Usual Suspects/To Die For/Outbreak/The Bridges of Madison County/Crimson Tide/ Seven/ and Waterworld [which in hindsight probably marked the end of Costner’s mega star days].

Thanks by the way for your feedback on my Ustinov and Dinklage posts.

    1. Hey Bob….thanks for checking out our 1995 page. Glad you still find these newer years still useful. Page has over 70 trailer pages as well. Looking at your favorites…I have seen all of them. American President is WoC’s favorite. Nicolas Cage is excellent in Leaving Las Vegas…but it s too depressing for repeat viewings. Of the 15..I would say The Usual Suspects, Sabrina and Forget Paris (we have no Billy Crystal page…strange) would be my favorites as well. Good feedback as always.

      1. HI BRUCE

I substantially agree with your comments and I did indeed recall that W o C shared my liking for the US President. “Those were the days” for Mike Douglas and unfortunately combating illness has taken it toll on him in recent times.

        1. Hey Bob….always good to see we can occasionally agree on something…lol. I think Michael Douglas is still doing well…I bet he shows up in Avengers End Game this weekend. That movie is forecasted to break some serious box office records.
