2010’s True Grit

2010 Movies Can Be Ranked 6 Ways In This Table

The really cool thing about this table is that it is “user-sortable”. Rank the movies anyway you want.

    • Sort 2010 Movies by the star or stars of the 2018 Movies listed in table
    • Sort 2010 Movies by domestic box office grosses
    • Sort 2010 Movies by wordwide box office grosses
    • Sort by how 2010 Movies were received by critics and audiences.  60% rating or higher should indicate a good movie.
    • Sort by how many Oscar® nominations and how many Oscar® wins each 2010 Movies received.
    • Sort 2010 Movies by Ultimate Movie Ranking (UMR) Score.  UMR puts box office, reviews and awards into a mathematical equation and gives each movie a score.
    • Green highlight means the movie is still in theaters and still earning UMR points

  1. I have seen 9 of the highest grossing films in the table above and the following are the 10 films that I personally liked the best.

Karate Kid-watched it with my grandchildren
    Iron Man 2-ditto!
King’s Speech- probably the one that impressed me most.
Shutter Island – Leo almost mimicking his own idol Brando.
Black Swan – MY Barbra Hershey giving good support.
    Book of Eli
Unstoppable-Tony’s final release prior to his sad death
Eat Pray Love – My Julia’s star was starting to fade slightly
The Tourist- Depp surprisingly 2nd billed
Edge of Darkness – Mel’s final film as a top star?

This highly comprehensive rundown of 2010’s movie marketplace is welcomed with a “Vote Up!”

    1. Hey Bob….thanks for the visit, comment and reviews on 2010 movies.i enjoyed reading your memories on the movies you saw. I think Mel had already lost the title of Top Star when Edge of Darkness came out. Eat Pray Love was one of the few Julia movies WoC did not enjoy. Good stuff.mn

      1. HI BRUCE Thanks for the reply. I agree with your point about Mel’s decline. In fact your table on Mel’s page suggests that 2002’s Signs was his last box office hit as a lead star.

My own meaning was that Edge of Darkness, although not a box office or hit or a serious critical hit -just bordering in “good” from you for example – ended seemingly once and for all the long run of TRADITIONAL solid “Mel Gibson” movies in which he was the top billed star and which got a normal release schedule.

After that it was a succession of movies that were either quirky like The Beaver or/and had Mel in supporting roles – for example Expendables 3, Machete Kills and Daddy’s Home 3 in which he was 4th billed. Blood Father, like a few other recent Gibson films, as I understand it had a very limited release and The Numbers records no US income for it whereas you give Edge of Darkness an adjusted $50 domestic million gross and a worldwide one of around $90 million.. The Professor and the Madman co-starring Mel with Sean Penn to be released in the US this May doesn’t seem to have box office written all over it. Indeed it has already been released outside the States but has so far garnered just a paltry $1.2 million .

The good news for Mel though is that when he was only starting to register in movies in the early 80s The Master in his 1983 fabled Book of Terror rightly forecast Mel as a future superstar and in fact dubbed him the “young Alan Ladd”. In MY book praise doesn’t come higher than that!

        1. Hey Bob….I agree with your comment. Lately….when I see a movie was released in limited theaters….and is not listed at Box Office Mojo or The Numbers….I tend to give it credit for the lowest possible box office that will register in our database. 50,000 is that number. Mel’s Blood Father got that number…even though in reality it was probably even lower than that. I can agree that Signs was the final hurrah of Mel the movie star. The bad press….his advancing age….has him left to direct or leads in low budget movies or supporting roles in higher budget movies. Kudos to Marlon for correctly predicting the success of young Mel. Good stuff as always…and now off to school.

  2. How did we get from 2001 to 2010 so fast? Or have the other years been done already?

I’ve seen 89 of the 300 films on the chart. Looking at my files I have 120 films from 2010 in my movie collection. Many of them not on this chart and some I have yet to watch.

Toy Story 3 and Alice in Wonderland biggest films of the year, Inception was huge too.

Another epic movie year page Bruce. they are getting bigger. This might be the biggest. 300 films!

    Vote Up!

    1. Hey Steve…..I had all of the 2010-2019 years completed except for 2010….so I figured I would jump ahead and finish off this 10 year span. That only leaves the entire 2000s and 7 in the 1990s to do pages on….and then we will have yearly reviews from 1928 to 2019.

Yep this is the biggest….and I even dumped another 300 movies….as their grosses were so low….and the movies were so unknown….it did not seem worthy of making this page 600 movies long. I have seen every movie on your favorite list with the exception of Welcome to the Space Show.

Not sure how you avoid not watching movies you have at the house…..I feel a “pressing need” to not have any movies like that in my house..sometimes I might have a few movies like that…but then I binge watch them and get them back to their home.

Toy Story 3 and Alice in Wonderland were massive hits indeed…..I have only seen Inception one time….I saw it in theaters…and WoC and myself did not think it was as awesome as so many others thought. One day I will re-visit that one. Thanks for the voted up, the visit, the tally and the comment….all are greatly appreciated,

    1. Hey Dan….your total movies seen in theaters….is almost 20 times greater than my total…very very impressive. So many movies….I would bet that you have sen 80 to 90% of all the movies made in 2010. Any favorites that stand out to you? Good lists as always. Thanks for sharing this information.

      1. I think Social Network was my best film of the year. Got your book day, I was listed in the acknowledgements, I was touched.

        1. Hey Dan….you and WoC agree on The Social Network being the best movie of 2010. Thanks for buying the book…and glad you found your name in the acknowledgements. Your support has been appreciated,

  4. I like this page. I was in Germany for most of 2010. Many of these movies I originally saw with dubbed German voices. My favorites would include Inception, Shutter Island, 127 Hours and Never Let Me Go. Actually, Inception is in my all time Top 5 movies. Thanks for including me in your contributor rundown, I had no idea I had commented that many times.

    1. Hey Taylor….glad you noticed that you had reached the Top Contributor List. I have greatly appreciated all your comments. Glad you found this website. I saw and thought your Top 3 were good movies……Never Let Me Go was a little to depressing for me….I actually liked how Michael Bay handled the same subject a little more with his The Island. Action versus depressing….wins for me all the time. Good feedback.

  5. Overall, I have seen 147 of these movies. Only 7 of them in theaters….what can I say…WoC was pregnant with our youngest…and then we had a newborn and did not sleep anymore in 2010. I have seen the top 62 UMR movies. My Top 10?

Easy A – the movie that I first noticed Emma Stone….she started the decade off well…and finisher off even stronger…La La Land and The Favourite
Heartbreaker – romantic comedy from France…..fun date move
Hot Tub Time Machine – a fun movie….put it down as a guilty pleasure
Incendies – a mind blowing finale makes this one worth tracking down
Kick Ass – had no expectations for this movie…very surprised..same director made equally enjoyable Kingsmen movie later in the decade
Red – one of Bruce’s last good movies…what a cast
The Social Network…story of Facebook is very memorable
Toy Story 3 – heartwarming family classic
True Grit – Jeff Bridges shines in the John Wayne role
    Unstoppable – intense thrller
