  1. The Dark Knight Rises was great I liked the dark aspect of the film and the way Nolan decided to end it. As someone who read the books, I felt that the Hunger Games was good, but could have used a director like Nolan. I think they took a family friendly approach to the movie rather then staying true to the darker nature of the book. I have yet to see Moonrise Kingdom, but am looking forward to it. The story looks unique and visually appealing. Add to that a star studded cast and how can it not live up to my expectations.

    1. Hey Film Fanatic603. Interesting thoughts on The Dark Knight and Hunger Games….I image Nolan would make the Hunger Games much much darker. I wonder which direction Nolan will go in now….but I am sure it will be an interesting movie. As for Moonrise Kingdom….it is a very quirky movie….but I loved it…..easily the best of Wes Anderson movie….and Bruce Willis and Bill Murray are outstanding….it is fun seeming the two actors acting together. Thanks for stopping by.

  2. I had to laugh when I saw your list of worst reviewed movies of the year. There are great movies and there are also the dudds 🙂 Your movie page just reminded me I want to see Avengers! I am unsure whether I will go see Dark Knight, seeing mixed reviews.

    1. Hey ChristyWrites….glad my 5 worst reviewed movies part of my hub got some laughs. I highly recommend The Avengers….I would say the best two movies of the year are The Avengers and Moonrise Kingdom….two movies that are drastically different from each other…but I really liked both. I think the best way to describe the Dark Knight Rises…a good movie but not a fun movie to watch. Thanks for stopping by.

  3. Great page! Love the fact that all the movies are listed right here, I don’t have to go searching for, what to watch, any more 🙂

So, I am wondering what is your formula for ranking the movies? Is there a hub about it, or is it a secret? LOL….. I see that you ranked ParaNorman, for example… not that I liked the movie, way down, and the critics ranked it #5 !

Enjoyed it, thanks for the info. Voting up and awesome…. Not that you need it :))

    1. Hey LaThing…nope it is not a secret…I have attached the Movie Card for ParaNorman…it is right above the comments.

My scoring system is based on the following %s.

      Critic/Audience rating = 33%

      Box Office Gross = 33%

      Opening Weekend Rank = 3%

      Top 5 and Top 10 weeks = 8%

      Awards and Nominations = 22%

      So for ParaNorman

      It got a Critic/Rating of 82% = 26.99 points

Current Box Office is 40.32 million = 6.58 points

It opened in 3rd place at the box office = 1 point

It has been in the Top 5/Top 10 for 3 weeks = 3.13 points

Awards get announced in December and January so it could, though unlikely, pick up another 22 points.

Other rules…once a movie crosses 200 million at the box office…it maxes out the category…..so a movie like The Avengers only gets 33 points no matter how much its box office run goes over 200 million….typically about 10 movies a year max out the points.

The critic/audience rating comes from places like RottenTomatoes, IMDB, Metacritic, Fandango, Yahoo, Roger Ebert and Leonard Maltin….put them all together and get the average.

I hope you can read the attached score card…it is small print…..but it lists the amount of points earned in one column and the amount of points in could have earned in another column.

Hope that helps explain….I think it works pretty well….it has been adjusted numerous times but I currently like this formula.

Thanks for asking….it has been many moons since somebody asked.

  4. Hi Cogerson,

know what’s funny? You notice the number and sometimes there are remakes of remakes, like Spiderman?

I know lots of people complain about remakes, but people still spend the money and watch them. Now imagine, if people stop going to see them, then they wouldn’t be made.

I was kind of please though, about the Karate Kid with Jackie Chan, it had a pleasant story, that the whole family can watch and I love the original.

What people don’t understand, why Jackie did the film. He wanted to pay homage to Pat Morita and like any actor, if they were to play something along the lines of Redford, Pacino, DeNiro and others, they would do.

So in his own way, Jackie wanted to do in his own way, pay homage to Pat.

    1. Hey Shelly …you make good points about remakes….and Hollywood is always offering up new ones all the time…..this summer gave us Total Recall….which cost a future to produce but flopped at the box office…a few summers ago Jackie Chan gave us the new Karate Kid and it was a monster hit….I am surprised they have not made a sequel yet. Interesting about Jackie and Pat Morita….thanks for the visit and the comment they are both greatly appreciated.

  5. Eastwood’s new movie fell at the starting post Bruce? That whole talking to a chair fiasco put people off? What do you think?

The new Judge Dredd movie has fizzled at the box office, ironic if it doesn’t gross as much as Stallone’s much slated 1995 version.

Looking forward to seeing lovely Milla’s latest slo-mo 3D acrobatics zombie slaying movie on Blu-ray next year

    1. Hey Steve…I am betting when the final numbers come out today….Clint will have the number one spot….as I think End of Watch and House Somewhere On A Street will drop below 13 million and Trouble With The Curve will get close to 13 million. But it is still a disappointing opening for possibly his last movie….he is 82.

So was the reason for the soft opening….his Obama chair speech or the fact that is core audience is already dead or can not get to movies….I am a huge Clint fan but going to the movie was not even an option.

Dredd3D got really good reviews….so I was surprised it did so poorly….but rest assured Milla will be making many more Resident Evil movies…..as it is very popular overseas were it makes a ton of money….thanks for the return visit to one of my most popular pages…it is closing in on 5K.
