  1. Fantastic Bruce, now I can see at a glance which are the top films so far this year, cheers dude!

The Avengers no.1 loved it, I wonder if Dark Knight Rises will be as popular, this should be interesting.

Spider-Man is doing well too. Prometheus not as good as they hoped, I was disappointed with it.

I’ve seen 26 of the 72 films you’ve listed. just 4 from the top 10.

Still haven’t seen the Hunger Games or Cabin in the Woods.

I want to see Brave and Moonrise Kingdom.

    1. Wow Steve that is close to 50% of these movies….I have seen two of this movies….Moonrise Kingdom and Contraband. I have seen the non-3D versions of Phantom Menace, Beauty and the Beast, and Titanic….plus I got John Carter for Father’s Day and have not watched it yet.

But I will be seeing number three Thursday night/Friday morning as a group of us have our tickets for The Dark Knight Rises. Plugging in some possible numbers for Dark Knight…I think a 180 million dollar weekend and a 85% approval rating will give The Dark Knight the following rankings:

Box office for the year….7th place right behind Brave

Top films by critics/audiences….3rd place right behind The Avengers

Cogerson Movie Score….7th place right behind Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax

Not too bad after three days.

I think the movie that surprised me the most was Cabin in the Woods getting such strong reviews…3rd place currently.

  2. I’ve only seen 2 of these movies, Ted and Avengers, and they were both good, at least by my seemingly low standards. Ted was extremely funny and Avengers was just awesome. I also have a question, what do you consider low or high using your index? The top movie had a 70 and I want to know if you have movies ranked much higher than that (maybe 90s).

    1. Hey redwards….thanks for visiting….my formula has three parts…box office results, critic review and audience voting, and awards(Golden Globe, Oscars) which make up 23% of the score….so with the awards still months away the current movies can only get 77 points(a perfect score)…so if you go with a current score on current available points the top 5 would be.

The Avengers 95.50, Hungry Games 91.42, Madagascar 3 86.35, Brave 84.37 and Spiderman 82.25. Realistically known of these movies is going to win any major nominations or wins…..but I am sure they will pick up lots of minor awards

  3. Cogerson….as always your work is superb…..You put the so-called professionals/experts to total shame……You need to write some agencies and send them copies of your work……

I always look forward to your movie rankings……I follow it to know what I want to see……..I have heard so much about “Moonrise Kingdom,” no doubt I will be seeing it soon. Thanks as always Coge for your fabulous research and valuable info!

    1. Hey fpherj48….thanks for such kind words….and thanks for the comments and the compliments…..you have the same idea as my wife….she has been telling me the same thing….I am happy with just printing up my hubs and putting them in a folder….in my mind I am writing a book…..granted it is a book with a publication of 1…..lol.

  4. Act of Valor is my favorite movie of 2012, so far. Followed closely by the Avengers and then Brave. I’m not selecting Act of Valor because Keith Urban wrote, sang and performed the song “For You” for it. By the way it was the first time Keith wrote and performed a song for a film. Also by the way I appreciate your Best to Worst Movies of the Year Hubs! Way to go Cogerson!

    1. Hey Sunshine625…..I believe you 100% that Keith Urban writing and performing in about Act of Valor has nothing to do with why you have the movie rated so highly….just one of those weird consequences in life…lol. Halfway through the year and Act of Valor is still in the Top 25…..I am looking forward to that movie.

Avengers will probably be on top of this list for a very long time….last year The Help topped the list with a score of 75.50…..and The Avengers will top that score with 1 Oscar nomination.

As for Brave….for some reason…..Pixar’s marketing never reached Sam and Emily….so we have no plans to see it….but I am sure Pixar returns to their glory days with that movie…..thanks for the visit and the compliment…..they are both greatly appreciated.

  5. Nobody does movie pages like you do, Cogerson. The detail is astounding. This page is timely as i’m about to go watch the Dark Night in all it’s IMAX glory at pointe Orlando. Yesterday after visiting Universal studios we popped into AMC cinemas and watched Brave. I love my Florida holidays as I can combine all the relaxing, the parking, sun bathing ,dining out with my movie going.

    1. Thanks for the nice compliment Docmo….I heard and saw a photo of your encounter with Sunshine625 in Orlando….very cool. Glad you had a great time on vacation….thanks for the visit.
