This is the third time that we have done this tournament ….but the first time that we decided to document the results as we work through the tournament. In 2014 Spencer Tracy was the last person standing. In 2015 Humphrey Bogart won. Who will be the last person standing in 2016?
The rules to qualify for the tournament: Actor/actress had to star in a movie before 1960, star in at least 30 movies and be ranked in the Top 64 when looking at the average Ultimate Movie Ranking (UMR) Score for their movies.
The rules to advance to the next round: The first four rounds are a best-of-five movie matchup. The last two rounds (Final Four & Finals) are a best-of-seven. Using a random number generator each actor/actress’ movie is drawn from their Top 30 UMR rated movies. The movie with the higher UMR score wins that matchup. First one to either 3 or 4 wins moves to the next round. Movie can only be used once for the entire tournament….which is why 30 movies is the minimum to qualify for the tournament. This continues until only one actor/actress is left.
2016 Classic Actor Movie Tournament Bracket
The better the Ultimate Movie Ranking (UMR) average score the higher the seed. That means Spencer Tracy, Cary Grant, James Stewart and Gregory Peck are the Top Seeds.

So with only 8 actors left….we have all number one seeds left (Grant, Peck, Tracy & Stewart)….2 number two seeds (Wayne & Gable)…a number six seed T. Power and a number 7 seed…C.Heston.
Sweet 16 is set…..all the #1s and and 3 of the #2s are still around. Half of the #3s made it. The rest? 3 #4s, 1 #5, 2 #6s and 1 #7. Charlton Heston is the highest seed left…..that is the good news…the bad news is he has already used 50% of his Top 16 movies.
Biggest suprise? Last year’s champ and two time Final Four participant Humphrey Bogart gets bounced in Round 2.
Commentary…..after round one only 5 double digit seeds remain. #10 Susan Heyward, 3 #12s….Errol Flynn, Walter Matthau and Doris Day and one #13 Joan Crawford. The highest seed to go away was #4 Burt Lancaster.

About to start the Sweet 16 round. Can Charlton continue his magic?
