UMR Hall of Fame Commenters in ABC Order (People With At Least 50 comments)
- Bob – our Brando/Crawford/Ladd and billing expert – he has been reading our pages for years….but stepped out of the shadows in 2016 and started commenting…he might be more aware of what is on our website than we do
- BryRog57 – the top two UMR pages of 2016…(Pixar v DreamWorks & Marvel v D.C.) were his suggestions….our top sharer of links
- Chris – makes great UMR subject requests and provides well thought out and interesting comments on most of our pages
- Dan…..our Kevin Bacon Oracle expert……he posts tons of information that help add to our pages….his movie databases put our movie databases to shame
- Flora – our best Candanian commenter….huge Peck/Widmark fan..another HubPage alumni
- John…..our Gary Cooper expert…..he makes great UMR movie subject suggestions….his vast movie knowledge especiallly when it comes to color versus black and white movies has been a welcome addition to our website
- Laurent…..a fellow classic movie gross treasure hunter….he made our USC Warner Brother ledger trip even more successful with his sharing of information
- Lyle…..almost 10% of all the new UMR pages in 2016 came from his suggestions…he has been providing awesome comments for a few years
- Søren…..another HubPage alumni….he has been making comments and suggestions since 2011
- Stein….one of the most prolific commenters on the page….rarely makes suggestions…but if he did they would quickly move up the request list….hint hint
- WoC….she might not comment too often…..but she is the brains of our team….leaving HubPages?…her idea…..creating a database that made it easy to write new pages?..her idea….creating a computer program that automatically calculates adjusted box office grosses? ….her idea. I could go on and on….but just know WoC is a huge reason for our successful 2016. I did come up with the “…….” seen in so……many comments.
Thought we forgot Steve Lensman? Nope we did not. Just saving the best for last. Steve and I have been commenting on each other’s web pages since 2011. Our combined comments have reached over 10,000! Steve and I befriended each other when we were both active members at HubPages. On our second website…CogersonMovieScore.com…..it was often just the me and Steve commenting on my latest movie pages. Steve was involved in the naming of this website. He talked us out of naming it ….”Ultimate Movie Ranker”…because it sounded too much like “Wanker”…which is apparently not a good thing in London. Steve was the last person to comment on CMS.com and the second person (WoC was first) to comment on UMR.com. So Steve…just want to tell you something…..THANK YOU for all the time you have given our movie pages….it is greatly appreciated.
UMR In Memoriam 2016
Every year we lose lots of people….2016 seemed like a horrible year…especially if you are a rock star or an actor. The double whammy of Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds was especially hard to take in….not good Christmas news at all. We do not write a UMR page on every movie actor that passes away…..but if it is somebody we feel connected to ….it seems to make us feel better. In 2016 that happened 4 times.
UMR Pages Written After The Celebrity Passed Away
David Bowie passed away on January 11th, 2016..the news was so shocking….that we wrote this page as a way to deal with his passing.
Anton Yelchin passed away on June 19th 2016….his death was the result of a freak accident….which I found even stranger because I had just watched his Odd Thomas and was reading the book.
Gene Wilder passed away August 29th 2016. When Willie Wonka passed away I was devasted. This page made me feel better…and it turned out to be one of our most popular pages of the year.
Carrie Fisher passed away December 27th 2016. When I first wrote this page..Fisher was in the hospital following her heart attack….sadly a few days later Princess Leia was no longer with us.
UMR Pages Written Before The Celebrity Passed Away
Garry Marshall…actually wrote this page about 10 days before his passing. Had no idea he was sick….so his passing was shocking.
Debbie Reynolds….this page was written years before she passed away.
Some of the Other Actors/Actresses That Passed Away In 2016
- Alan Rickman…..RIP Hans Gruber
- Oscar winner Patty Duke Astin
- Robert Vaughn
- Zsa Zsa Gabor
- Oscar winner George Kennedy
- Abe Vigoda
- Garry Shandling
- Guy Hamilton…James Bond director
- William Schallert,
- Ken Howard
- Burt Kwouk…Pink Panther’s Cato
- Gloria DeHaven
- Kenny Baker…Star Wars’ R2D2
- Michael Cimino….Oscar winning director
Finally….thanks to everybody that visited these pages and made 2016 a very successful year for us. Looking forward to an even better 2017.
Thanks for the tout. Always nice to be apart of UMR history. Congrats on 9 million and keep up the good work. 10,000,000 here you come!
Your are welcome….some of your suggestions have been monster view getters….the Pixar vs DreamWorks page is closing in on half a million or almost 5% of all the views of the entire website.
I guess my big question is what is the next big view getter? Suggestions?
hmmm…I will have to think about it…the first that just popped into my head is “twist” endings…not sure if you can track that or what would count, but the recently viewed by myself and DiLoC, The Sixth Sense, I would think might be relatively high.
Hey Bryan…..twist endings…..hmmmm…..interesting….I will have to see how many of those are out there…..my favorite twist endings would be The Sixth Sense, The Others, The Usual Suspects, No Way Out, Saw and Jacob’s Ladder. Thanks for the suggestion.
Hi
I can’t believe another year has gone, I didn’t realise that George Kennedy had died. I remember him in Cool Hand Luke and Thunderbolt and Lightning. He was a powerful character actor. Also I didn’t realise the director Michael Cimino had died, he’ll always be remembered for the Deer Hunter, one of my favourite movies of the 70’s. I don’t know if it’s still as highly regarded now.
At the time it was quite controversial. Jane Fonda was quite critical at the time, saying it was just an apologist for the Vietnam War. I just seen it as a great human interest story with fantastic performances.
Anyway, let’s hope 2017 gives us some good movies and I’m not talking about franchise, superhero or animation.
Hey Chris…the older we get the faster the year goes by…..2017….seems like only yesterday the world was freaking out about 2000 coming and how the computers were going to break. Yep the Kennedy and Cimino passings were pretty quiet. I would say the Bowie, Fisher and Wilder passings got me down the most….while the Anton Yelchin one was by the most shocking.
Cimino’s The Deer Hunter is not a fun movie to watch….but you are 100% correct….the performances are incredible. As for 2017….I am sure we are in store for many more superhero, computer animated, remakes and sequels in 2017. If you look at the Top 50 hits of 2016…70% of them fall into that category. Pretty much means were are doomed to the same in 2017.
Thanks for checking out this page and thanks for all the comments in 2016….thus you are a Hall of Famer in our book.
Nicely done. Your site has had a very good year.
Hey Troutman….thanks for the nice words and the visit.
