  2. Back in January I saw Just Like a Boss in the Franklin Square theater. A few weeks ago the Franklin Square closed permanently due to Covid. New owners took over in January and the state closed the cinemas in March.

In the week leading up to the shutdown I saw Greed at the Great Neck Squire theater. 2 weeks ago after 85 years it closed due to Covid. Sad, the theater had been taken over a year earlier in a Bow Tie Cinemas sell off, sold to the owner who had closed the Douglaston Movieworld cinema (the deal he got at the time was OK). Douglaston is a section of Queens which has lost most of their stores in their mall through big chains going bankrupt. Macy’s closed the location and Lowe’s contracted to take over the location. But Lowe’s wanted the cinema so they could unload their trucks in the space. The last film we saw there was Tag, about a week before it closed. Then Toys R Us, Modell’s and Fairway went belly up. The theater closed and Lowe’s never did anything. The guy who owned that theater bought Great Neck in 2019 and now its gone.

    1. Hey Dan. You’re just full of good news today. First the passing of Mac Davis and Helen Reddy analysis news of all these theaters closing. The longer this pandemic goes the less likely the movie business will ever get back what it had. So far the theaters around me have not closed, but we drove by the closest one to us this weekend and they were no cars there and it was open. Tenet does not seemed to have saved the movie business liked they hoped it would. Thanks for the breakdown of New York City, pretty soon it’ll look like I An Legend’s New York City.
