  1. GLENN CLOSE 1-15

Best POSTERS I think are Cookie’s Fortune, Jagged Edge, Heights, The Wife, Hamlet [though I didn’t think that Mel Gibson’s diction was a s good as that of some other non-British actors whom I’ve seen playing in movie adaptations of the Bard of Stratford on Avon’s work], The World According to Garp, Dangerous Liaisons Tarzan, and Glenn iconically showcased in Guardians of the Galaxy.

STILLS – entire video. These are my own pick of the best. (1) Crumyrna De Vil showing us her sexy side (2) with Jack in Mars Attacks (3) with Jeff Bridges – both of them in their prime in Jagged Edge (4) “mad” Glenn in Fatal Attraction (5) with Mike Douglas and Anne Archer – another lovely actress whose career didn’t go big ultimately. Her last really big hit was a quarter of a century ago in support of Harrison Ford in Clear and Present Danger. (6) The Big Chill ensemble (7) with Redford in The Natural – my personal fave Redford movie and my fave sports movie jointly with Hackman’ Best Shot/Hoosiers and The Best of Times starring Kurt Russell and Robin Cogerson. (8) with the brilliant Jeremy Irons and (9) with he of the creepy voice – “Malko”

Vote Up –plus, plus [98%] as I think your video faithfully captures the breadth and depth of Glenn’s range as an actress. You and W o C’s fatal attraction agree on 4 out of Glenn’s Top 6 best reviewed. He includes Cookie’s Fortune and The Wife in his 6 whereas you go for The Natural and The Big Chill. I’m surprised at how far apart you two are about The Big Chill which is your No 6 and his 16th. Otherwise it’s close [no pun intended]. Naturally from what I have said above I support your choice of The Natural [again no pun!]. I wonder though did anyone put pressure on “Teach” to include The Wife !!

  2. HI STEVE
A warm welcome to your Glenn Close video. She was never perceived to be in the Streep league as an actress or in the Julia Roberts bracket as a box office star but Glenn had a fine thespian range, playing such diverse roles as the Hitchock type heroine in Jagged Edge, the homicidal nymphomaniac in Fatal Attraction and of course Crumyrna De Vil.

However my own personal favourite Close role was in the 1995 TV production of Serving in Silence which dealt with prejudices in the US military. There are various kinds of courage such as physical bravery when John McClane takes on a 100 bad guys armed with just a tooth brush.

Then there is the mental and psychological courage of the individual who personally takes on the might of the Establishment in a peaceful struggle. In Serving in Silence Glenn fought the military to defend her right to her own sexual identity and I admired her as much as I admired my heroes like the Duke with his ”A man’s gotta do” routine or Marlon leading the waterfront revolt against Lee J Cobb and his gangster mob.

ENTRIES 30-16 Some really unique POSTERS here at least to me. Overall my pick in the 30-16 batch are both ones for 102 Dalmatians, Maxie, Mary Reilly [one of my Julia’s few flops in her heyday] The Immediate Family [I loved James Woods –whatever became of him?] Chumscrubber, Paradise Road. The Stone Boy and Albert Nobbs

    To be continued——–

    1. Hi Bob, thanks for reviewing and rating my Glenn Close video, appreciate the trivia, info and comparison. Happy you enjoyed the picture gallery.

A good actress and highly respected too, so I was surprised to find that she’d never won an Oscar, Globe or BAFTA for her movie work. Though she did win the Globe a couple of times for her TV work – The Lion in Winter and Damages. She was nominated for the TV movie you mentioned in your post.

I left out a strange cameo in Hook in which she played a male pirate.

Her role in Guardians of the Galaxy wasn’t very big but she did play ‘Commander of the Nova Corps’ and it was important to the film. The sci-fi blockbuster was highly rated so it wasn’t me boosting it into the top spot.

Only one of Close’s films scored 10 out of 10 from my sources – ‘The World According to Garp’ but that one source wasn’t enough to get it into the top 5.

Two more scored 9 – Dangerous Liaisons and Reversal of Fortune.
      And 9 films scored 8 out 10.

Guardians of the Galaxy tops the IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes charts. And it’s tied with Reversal of Fortune at no.1 on Bruce’s critics chart.

Glenn Close on Fatal Attraction – “People still come up to me and say, “You scared the sh*t out of me.”

“I’ve often been mistaken for Meryl Streep, although never on Oscar night.”

Glenn on Robin Williams – “Robin Williams was my friend. He was the star of the first movie I ever did called The World According To Garp. George Roy Hill was our director and he believed in Robin’s transcendent talent. As we mourn his tragic death, we must remember him for the great waves of laughter that he was able to illicit from us, how his humor and insights–though they came from a place of pain and uncertainty—connected us and reminded us of how flawed and fragile…how human we are…how we are capable of moments of inspired transcendence and others of unspeakable despair. I am so deeply thankful that this dearly loved man graced this particular planet.”

      1. Hey Steve…I like the Close quotes….especially the one on Robin Williams.

Hey Bob….good review on Steve’s video and the Close movie posters.

  3. Added Steve’s Glenn Close You Tube Video To The Page. My comment on his video.

“Glenn Close and WoC are both William and Mary grads. I have seen 21 of these movies…..one more since I did our Close UMR page. Favorites would include #1 Guardians of the Galaxy…..though she has nothing to do with it being my favorite…small part. #4 The Natural…just re-watched this one last week. #5 Tarzan…one of my favorite Disney animated movies. #7 World According to Garp..love the first half of this one….second half is such a downer. #9 Air Force One…great action movie…Ford made an awesome Die Hard on plane movie. #6 The Big Chill…I really loved this movie when I was younger….now it seems really dated. Fatal Attraction, 101 Dalmations and Hamlet were not movies I really enjoyed. Good to see The Wife getting a spot already…and a good spot at that. Good page. Voted up. Included on our Close page….and shared.”

    1. Hi Bruce, you beat my tally as usual, I’ve seen 9 of the 30, Flora 7. I haven’t seen Garp or The Big Chill or the Dalmation movies. But I did see Mars Attacks! [Bruce winces] Not one of your favorites I know despite the stellar cast. Guardians of the Galaxy gave her worldwide exposure and to a different audience than the ones usually watching her films, hopefully she’ll turn up again in the franchise. Thanks for commenting amigo, appreciate the vote and share.

      1. Hey Steve…always glad to add your videos. I agree about Close in Guardians…to bad she was not in Guardians 2…hopefully she was not on the planet when Thanos took it out….and maybe she was on the good half of the “snap” of Thanos…lol.
