I have been a fan of Michael Caine for most of my life. So it was a great surprise when yesterday I got an e-mail telling me that I had been assigned to replace Michael Caine on January 26th, 2017.
So today..I figured that I would stop by and have a talk with Michael Caine. Granted this was Michael Caine the math teacher and not the 6 time Oscar nominated and 2 time Oscar winner…….but how many times will I get the chance to talk to Michael Caine.
I of course asked him about his name and how often the students mention that he has the name of a famous actor. Well the bad news is….that Michael Caine the actor is not too well known when it comes to 11, 12 & 13 year old students in my area….and they rarely if ever mention it. Though it should be noted….that a student overheard our conversation and seemed interested. We asked if she had seen any of the Batman movies…when she said yes…we told her that Caine played Batman’s butler, Alfred. She knew Alfred and seem amazed that her math teacher had the same name as Batman’s butler.
Mr. Caine did say that ever once in awhile a student will ask ….”What happens if we google your name?”….and he says….”lots of information on an old English actor”. The best responses he gets about his name is when he is at a store and purchasing something and has to show an identification. They always do a double look at the id and ask if that is really his name. So…..on January 26th…I will be filling in for Michael Caine.
That is interesting. I have the same last name as a popular children’s book writer, but only book people like me know that information. And no I am not related to her Helakoski is an unusual last name but there are many Helakoskis running around.
Hey Helakoski…..very cool….though I must admit I am not aware of the author you mentioned….thanks for sharing that information…and thanks for checking out this post.
“You’re only supposed to blow the bloody doors off.”
How did Bruce become such a big Michael Caine fan, what’s the story here? Instead of say Brando, Cooper, Heston or Alan Ladd? [wink]
Hey Steve….I think there are three reasons why I like Michael Caine….reason #1 is my dad liked him….as he would always mention Caine’s Harry Palmer movies and The Man Who Would Be King. #2 is the fact that Caine and my dad looked somewhat alike…at least in the 1970s and #3..I really liked the way he said “bloody”….I remember practicing my “bloody” as I tried to perfect my Caine. Thanks for checking out this post.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lu-WkrnJkY At the 3:40 mark you can see my current Caine impression…lol.
Gotta to admit this is not what I thought it was going to be about when I clicked the link. I would have thought of all the actors in their 80s that Sir Michael would have had the most Q rating with that age range. The Nolan movies have to made him known to a new generation. Funny story.
Hey HOF….yeah…it is somewhat misleading…but it has become the best post view getter ever for us….sorry about the “click” bait….but I if feel it is a pretty funny story….and it does deal with movies. I agree his Q rating from his Batman movies should help him….but here is the scary part…the first part of that series was 12 years ago….and many of these kids were not even alive when Batman Begins came out. Thanks for the visit.
Well, that is very interesting. As you say the young people today do not really know how much Michael Caine did in movies. He made some really good ones. But I am not up to date too well with all the new stars – some yes – some not so much! Keep up the good work. I am so proud of now much you have accomplished with your movie and stories on your site. Your father would also be proud. Love you!
Hey Bern 1960…..thanks for checking out this post. I agree what is wrong with these young kids….a 12 year old that does not know Michael Caine….he is only 70 plus years older than them….but don’t worry in my house the kids know who Mr Caine is….lol. Thanks for the nice words….come back on dad’s birthday….as his “page” will be the featured post of the day.
