The 95th Academy Awards were a mixed lot.
Congrats to the Asian American community for a significant break out with Everything Everywhere All at Once and the Best Actress and Supporting Actor Oscars, they were long overdue.
On the down side was the almost invisible presence of Latino performers and presenters (out of some twenty presenters, only Salma Hayek was in evidence). Guillermo del Torro did get an Oscar for directing the animated Pinnochio. The Latino community is the largest in the nation (almost 20%) of the population and has a meager 4% representation, and an equitable representation is almost a century ovedue.
In the In Memorium, two performers who worked in Hollywood for several decades were
incredibly missing, Stella Stevens and Robert Blake. Oscar wise, Austin Butlers was robbed for his brilliant performance in Elvis!
Hey Frank. Good breakdown on the Oscars last night. It was a big night for views on UMR….as we had almost 50,000 views during the show. Good point on the lack of Latino performers and presenters. In the longer cut Stella Stevens and Robert Blake were mentioned. As for Austin Butler….he was good as Elvis….I will withhold judgement until I see The Whale. As for Everything, Everywhere All At Once….it is an interesting movie….but is it Oscar worthy? In my opinion, no it is not. Good thoughts.
