Joel McCrea’s Wichita was not including because the movie does not take place in Tombstone…and Doc Holliday is nowhere to be found in the movie.
1934’s Frontier Marshall was not included because Wyatt Earp does not appear in the movie. The main characters in that movie are Michael Wyatt and Doc Warren….just does not have the same ring.

Kevin Costner, Fonda, Garner, Russell and Lancaster
Kirk Douglas, Mature, Kilmer, Robards and Romero
Best Combo – Fonda and Mature
Thank you Gerard.
Fonda, Lancaster, Costner, Russell and Garner
Douglas, Quaid, Val, Mature and Keach
thank you Paul….it is greatly appreciated.
Although very inaccurate, My Darling Clementine was the best acted and photographed. So give me Henry Fonda and Victor Mature in the top spots. My next favorite Earp is James Garner in Hour of the Gun. Val Kilmer gets my runner up spot to Mature. I will take the Gunfight at the OK Corral for third place. In 4th I will take Harris Yulin in Doc. Yes the movie makes the Earps look more like bad guys but Yulin does well as Earp. My 4th Doc would be Dennis Quaid. That might be his best performance of his lengthy career. 5th through 7th is too close to call. But I will list my bottom Earps and Docs. Randolph Scott as Earp in Frontier Marshall and Kent Taylor in Tombstone-A Town To Tough To Die. Neither created an exciting movie character which always amazed me since both Doc and Wyatt are western legends. As for your current poll numbers, Tombstone is getting way too much respect. Give me Wyatt Earp anyday over that one. Only Kilmer’s performance shines.
That should say “Give me the Gunfight at the OK Corral duo of Kirk Douglas and Burt Lancaster for third place”.
Hey Philly Man…understood.
Hey PhillyMan…thanks for a very detailed comment. I agree with you about Quaid in Wyatt Earp…it is a shame that his Doc came out after Val’s Doc….because it was severly overshadowed. Kent Taylor is not getting much respect here. Wow somebody that likes Wyatt Earp more than Tombstone….I respect your opinion but thinking you are in the minority there. Thanks for stopping by.
Being somewhat old. I never liked the latest Earp movies. The ones that I watched in my youth are another story. Nobody played Earp better than Henry Fonda. Then give Mr Randolph Scott followed by James Garner. Then Mr. Lancaster. Last give me Kevin Costner as I liked his version more than the Russell rock video western.
As for Doc. Mature, Robards, Romero, Douglas and Kilmer. My Darling Clementine is the best movie. Followed closely by Hour of the Gun and Gunfight at the O.K. Corral.
Hey Simpson….thanks for the thoughts and votes. I also put Fonda as my Top Earp….looking at the final results of our poll…he got 6 1st place votes which tied him with Kurt Russell for the most 1st place votes. Your top pick of Mature did not do as well….as only two people had him in the top spot…and he ended up finishing in 5th place. Good feedback.
