Why I watched this one? After sitting out the last three Spidey movies and waiting until they reached home entertainment. The trailers and reviews got me to the theater to see this 6th Spider-Man movie in 15 years.
What is this one about? Several months after the events of Captain America: Civil War, Peter Parker, with the help of his mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.), tries to balance his life as an ordinary high school student in Queens, New York City while fighting crime as his superhero alter ego Spider-Man as a new threat, the Vulture (Michael Keaton), emerges.
My thoughts on this one? Probably the best Spider-Man movie….though it is close to the first Tobey Maguire movie. Movie either hits or exceeds all expectations. Loved the performances….with Keaton and Tom Holland (he’s Spidey) being the best. Downey, Jr. appears about ever 25 or so minutes….hits his marks and goes away again.
One of the few complaints that I have about the movie is that if you were not aware of the origin of Spider-Man….you might get the impression that Tony Stark and Stark’s super Spidey suite are the reasons that Spidey has his powers. Not thinking we had to turn Spidey into Iron Man Jr.
But back the good things….movie has a nice combo of action and humor. Keaton’s villain is memorable. In many ways Keaton’s character reminded me of Bryan Cranston’s Walter White in Breaking Bad. There is a car scene where I could easily see Keaton saying to Tom Holland one of Walter White’s most famous lines…..”I am the danger. A guy opens his door and gets shot, and you think that of me? No! I am the one who knocks.”
Final thought: This is a fun ride…..so sit back and enjoy it. Earns 4 out of 5 stars from the UMR staff.

I give it 3 out of 4 stars. The swinging through the air scenes sometimes seemed as cartooney as they were in the first Tobey McGuire film. The part that seemed to be the biggest hit with the audience I saw it with were Captain America’s public service announcements throughout the picture (like to a class in detention). I was glad they skipped the origin story which was fine in Tobey’s but was redundant when Andrew Garfield came along for the ride.
He Dan….your 3 out of 4 is close to my 4 out of 5. I agree the swinging scenes are pretty cartooney….but I thought they were better than the first 5 Spidey movies. The PSA were fun…made you wish Cap was in the movie more. Did you stay to the end to see the finally post credit Cap PSA? Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the movie.
I agree with your review. I also enjoyed but like you I did not enjoy the super suit. Keaton was fun to watch.
Glad you liked it as well. Thanks for checking out my Spidey movie review.
