My tribute to the late, great Leonard Nimoy.
February 27, 2015 – Today the phone at my house rang just as I was checking my e-mail. As my oldest son, stationed in Alaska, starting talking I started reading an e-mail from my friend Steve Lensman which said….”Gutted to hear that Leonard Nimoy has died. A black day for sci-fi fans and Star Trek fans, like me”. As I was digesting that information my son asked me if I heard anything he had just said. I told him no…and then told him the news that Leonard Nimoy had passed away today. That is how my son and I heard this very sad news.
I grew up watching Star Trek rerun episodes. The original Enterprise crew almost seems like family. I was sad when James Doohan (Scotty) and DeForest Kelly (Bones McCoy) passed away….but I am heartbroken that we have lost Mr. Spock.
It has now been hours since I found about Leonard Nimoy’s passing…and I was checking out his movies in my database. I figured it would be good way to give tribute to Mr. Nimoy by putting together a Top Ten Leonard Nimoy Movie table. So here you go my tribute to one of my favorite actors ever…Mr. Leonard Nimoy.
Leonard Nimoy first started showing up in movies in 1951. From his first appearance in 1951’s Queen For A Day to his last appearance in 2013’s Star Trek: Into Darkness he was a very busy man. His IMDb page shows 134 acting credits, 12 directing credits, 4 writing credits and 3 producing credits
Leonard Nimoy Movies Can Be Ranked 6 Ways In This Table
The really cool thing about this table is that it is “user-sortable”. Rank the movies anyway you want.
- Sort Leonard Nimoy movies by his job in movie: actor, director or writer
- Sort Leonard Nimoy movies by adjusted domestic box office grosses using current movie ticket cost (in millions)
- Sort Leonard Nimoy movies by yearly domestic box office rank
- Sort Leonard Nimoy movies how they were received by critics and audiences. 60% rating or higher should indicate a good movie.
- Sort by how many Oscar® nominations and how many Oscar® wins each Leonard Nimoy movie received.
- Sort Leonard Nimoy movies by Ultimate Movie Rankings (UMR) Score. UMR Score puts box office, reviews and awards into a mathematical equation and gives each movie a score.
The final words of this page come from Leonard Nimoy’s final tweet on February 23, 2015.
A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP
I really loved the new Star Trek movie. I think old school trekies will really like the movie. The movie paid a nice tribute to Leonard Nimoy’s Spock in the film, this got me searching the internet for Nimoy Spock stuff and I found this wonderful Nimoy tribute page.
I can not believe it has already been 18 plus months since he died. Nimoy had such a huge impact on science fiction and is still a legend even though he is no longer with us. I’d like to think he is smiling and happy to see Star Trek continues to live on and it’s legacy continued. LLAP
Hey Cleveland Man. Glad you enjoyed that one too. I agree they did an awesome job of dealing with Nimoy’s real life in the movie. Nimoy/Spock are so connected….it really registered with the audience. Time flies indeed. LLAP to you as well.
Saw Star Trek Beyond. Loved it. Every time they mentioned Prime Spock Nimoy’s face would enter my mind. He gets notice in the end credits, but I found the mentions in the movie more emotional. Yes I admit I teared up when they were talking about Spock passing away. I highly recommend it.
Hey Stein…..I know actually what you mean. It was the perfect way to include Prime now Ambassador Spock in this movie. And because everybody loved Nimoy’s Spock…it brought emotional impact to those scenes. I agree with you…this is a movie that I highly recommend to. Thanks for stopping by.
The new Star Trek movie is awesome and they honor the memory of him.
Hey Anonymous…..good to know….glad they honored his memory. I will be seeing it for myself tonight.
It being the 50th anniversary of Star Trek, CanadaPost has been launching stamp after stamp. James Doohan and William Shatner are Canadian, but there are all sorts of them being launched by Canada Post.
The one that interests me the most is the stamp of Deforest Kelley as Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy that was unveiled today in London Ontario.
This is exciting. I am a Trekkie.
Not a live in my parents basement Trekkie, but a Trekkie just the same at least as far as the original series and the six movies of the original series cast is concerned. I also saw McCoy on the pilot on TNG and there was that episode of Deep Space Nine that revisited The Trouble With Tribbles episode.
That is cool about the stamps. Seems Star Trek has always been apart of my life…probably because my mom was such a fan. Not sure if you remember but my mom used to date Captain Kirk oh so long ago. Pretty sure that is why she liked Star Trek so much. I remember that episode with McCoy on TNG…good stuff.
Oh, yes. I remember that she dated William Shatner. 🙂
Perhaps the TCM forums would like to hear how your father could have been William Shatner 😉
Not likely. They don’t like to hear about anyone having any ties to someone famous unless they actually appear on TCM. Although that may just be about women posters. Maybe they like it when Men talk about famous people.
I understand that CARL BERNSTEIN will be at the festival this weekend talking about All the President’s Men. That is an interview I would like to attend. But alas, I do no international travelling anymore.
