Michelle Pfeiffer, is the # 52 most connected actor of the 1990’s.
In her heyday some critics regarded Michelle as the epitome of what a real female movie star should be . Conversely when the Johnny Depp movie Dark Shadows was released in 2012 Michelle’s name was apparently taken off some of the promotion material as it was felt that she might well keep certain audiences away. I am not sure what the publicists’ thinking was.
However personally I think Michelle has been one of the loveliest actress I’ve ever seen on the screen with such a lovely speaking voice that she must have taken lessons from Marlon Brando. Accordingly I warmly welcome your video which I rate as a fine 97.5%
Best POSTERS in entries 1-19 are for me Murder on Orient Express remake[which I enjoyed more than the Albert Finney version] Sinbad, The Fabulous Baker Boys, The Prince of England, Married to the Mob. White Olander, two absolute stunners for Ladyhawke, Scarface, Love Field, I am Bruce and The Age of Innocence.
The last named is my 2nd fave Pfeiffer flick after Deep End of the Ocean [which neither you nor WH give too much credit] and Michelle was absolute magnificence as the woman with whom Day Lewis becomes obsessed but can never have.
Best STILLS in my book are (1) solo from Ladyhawe (2) those Witches again – they have been getting a lot of publicity from you recently (3) Michelle showing off her legs in Hairspray (4 and (5)) the Catwoman pair from Batman Returns (6) Michelle in Stardust (7) with the rather eccentric Malto in Dangerous Liaisons – terrific actor but always weird. He played the Brando Kurtz from Apocalypse Now in the 1993 TV adaptation Heart of Darkness (8) a very sexy young Michelle in Scarface. She is one of those actresses who have both facial and sexual beauty and (9) supremely iconic in Ant Man and the Wasp. Doesn’t “wasp” have some kind of English connotation – help me out there?
You and The Work Horse agree on 4 of Michelle Top 6 best reviewed movies. He disagrees with you about Joel Returns and Stardust being in her Top 6 and plumps instead for Hairspray and The Fabulous Cogerson Boys [there IS a brother you know] You will see for example that he gives Hairspray 85% and makes it a No 1 whereas you have a more modest opinion of it and regard it as worth 73% in your 7th position. Still excellent profiles from you both.
Hello Bob, I hope you’ve recovered from the shock of seeing der little Englander using his own film dates for his movie files.
A while back you were having a go at me for not being patriotic enough and using American instead of English titles on my videos, and you were in a huff recently because I used the far more common English (and American) release dates for certain films rather than their original Shangri La premiere dates. 😉
Anyway thanks for taking the time to review and rate my Michelle Pfeiffer video, appreciate the info, trivia and comparison. Happy you enjoyed the picture gallery.
That was Johnny Depp made up as a vampire in the still from Dark Shadows.
Michelle is 60 years old this year and still busy working, Ant Man and the Wasp was out recently. ‘Wasp’ can also mean ‘White Anglo-Saxon Protestants’ the most dominant, privileged, and influential group of people in American society, according to one dictionary.
There are no 10 out of 10s in Michelle’s filmography but she does have one 9 and that is Dangerous Liaisons. 14 films scored 8 out of 10 including The Age of Innocence, Stardust, Hairspray, Batman Returns and Scarface.
Scarface is tops at IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes and my video, Maltin prefers ‘Les liaisons dangereuses’. Bruce has Hairspray at no.1 on the critics chart, Ant-Man and the Wasp topping the UMR and Batman Returns her biggest grosser in adjusted dollars.
HI Leetle One
Many thanks for your response to my Pfeiffer posts. I notice that two new viewers called der Little Englander and Capt Cosmo have been exchanging posts recently and It occurred to me that the Captain’s description of the scene from Mad Mad World is almost identical to an experience that I had when I served with the British Royal Air Force in England.
I shared a room with an English guy in the time leading up to the 1964 UK General Election. An opinion poll which turned out to be a mirage showed the Conservatives with a big lead over Labour and the poll boosted shares on the London Stock Exchange.
So as I entered our room one evening my roommate was watching the TV news which showed a great rush toward the Stock Exchange by poshly dressed guys clearly influenced by the poll who were wearing bowler hats and carrying brief cases and brollies seemingly the “uniform” of such people in those days.
Tongue in cheek I said to my room mate “You English guys sure like to dress up in some funny posh outfits,” when he jumped up and although we were close friends stood before me with blazing eyes and shouted “Leave us alone. We’re doing all right!”
Whilst I loved the English sense of humour [which often makes fun of us Irish – Gilbert Harding once asked an Irishman contestant on TV’s what’ my Line? “Do you keep pigs in your living rooms in Ireland ?”] I am afraid your fellow countrymen never appreciated my sense of humour back then.
And that seems to continue to be the case today –
“August 20, 2018 at 12:21 pm From Steve Lensman.
Hello Bob. A while back you were having a go at me for not being patriotic enough and using American instead of English titles on my videos, and you were in a huff recently because I used the far more common English (and American) release dates for certain films rather than their original Shangri La premiere dates.”
I think I Bob will give up trying to have a bit of fun on this site and will just become an old “dry bread”.
Bob, the English have never made fun of the Irish! 😉
Were you having fun? You did seem a little upset in that post and there was absolutely no reason to. So what if I use English release dates in my files. Is it so terrible? I can tell when you’re in a huff because you add the words “you English” or “typical English” somewhere in your post. I don’t think you like the English much Bob, but you do like their films. 🙂
One of my old film bibles, Halliwell’s Filmgoers Companion, rarely had the correct year of release next to it’s film titles, Halliwell seemed to prefer the year the movie started production or the year the idea for the film first popped up.
IMDB thinks it’s clever by adding the year a movie was first seen by, say, a preview audience or special premiere for that day only in some obscure Asian country followed by a proper release months later. This happens a lot, it happens in London where a film gets its celebrity premiere but doesn’t get seen by the movie going public until a month or two later.
HI STEVE
Anytime I have ever used terms like “you English” it has been in jest. If I really didn’t like a person or his nationality I would have the tact and good manners not to show it on this site or probably anywhere for that manner. However I am not racist in any respect.
ALL my comments about release dates and aka’s were in jest and the only thing that I was serious about was that I find shooting schedule dates useful but that is not a criticism of you as it is in most cases very difficult to identify those.
You are though mistaken in one thing – in the Armed Services of my time the Irish WERE made fun of though I don’t know if that still goes on today.
I apologise if my brand of humour misled you and/or in any way offended you. As the cliche goes, some of my best friends are English and English Bob in Unforgiven is one of my fave characters. Thouuh as Harris who played him is Irish perhaps there is something there for both of us!
It has been some time since Michelle has had a commercially successful box office stand-alone movie and the three movies in which she was top billed in the past 10 years had the following results: 2008’s Personal Effects*** largely a DVD release [though you include it in your selection and I can find no recorded cinematic income for it and the Work Horse excludes it from his Michelle page] Cheri (2009) $3 million in adjusted US grosses, Where is Kyra? released this year and a paltry $0.1 million in Bruce’s table above
ENTRIES 40-20 IN MICHELLE’S VIDEO Best POSTERS for me are Grease, Cheri [very provocative!] Sweet liberty, the foreign language one for*** Personal Effects, Deep End of the Ocean [my own personal fave Michelle movie] Up Close and Personal, Into the Night and Dangerous Minds. The latter with Michelle billed alone above the title is probably her most important completely stand-alone movie.
A fine run of STILLS in Part One and I certainly enjoyed the following (1) in Grease 2 (2) Michelle with the more exciting of the two Bruces that we know (3) her with Mel and Kurt [my THIRD fave of all her movies] (4) in bed with Harrison Ford [he certainly didn’t have to keep his Hans to himself there!] (5) in Dark Shadows [was that Depp heavily made up?] (6) in bed with “The Wolf” and (7) with Scotland’s Sir Sean in The English House.
Good Part One whetting my appetite for studying entriee 1-19 later.
1. Added Steve’s latest Michelle video to the page.
2. Included my comment on that video….Wow…I thought my Michelle UMR page was recent…turns out it is almost a year old…where does the time go? So we have 43 movies and you have 40 movies. I have seen 32 of the movies you list. Favorites include #35 Tequilla Sunrise….way too low…but I am biased I love that movie. #23 One Fine Day…one of the few George Clooney movies that like. #15 I Am Sam…good drama. #9 Ladyhawke…still like it…but on my most recent viewing it had not aged well #8Witches of Eastwick….probably my favorite Pfeiffer movie. #3 Stardust..fun movie..surprised it is rated so highly. #1 Scarface…epic movie. She worked with so many of my favorite stars…Caine, Willis, Russell, Jack, Harrison and Sean….just to name a few. Voted up and shared at UMR.com.
3. Enjoyed the conversation between Steve and Bob.
4. Lots of good points in their conversation….thanks for sharing it here.
Hi Bruce, 32 out of 40 is very good, I’ve seen half of this list, 20, Flora not a big fan of modern movies has seen 5.
Stardust is 7th on your chart of 43 films, rated highly there too. Tequila Sunrise not that high on your chart either. 🙂
You have Hairspray at no.1 on your critics chart, was it really the best film in her filmography? [Bruce growls]
Thanks again for the comment, vote and share it is appreciated, always fun comparing our charts.
Lovely lovely actress.
Hey Carl….I agree with you 100%….a very lovely actress.

In Sweet Liberty, Michelle also co-starred with Lillian Gish who made her first film in 1912.
Hey Dan
1. Not surprised she is so highly rated on the Bacon report.
2. I imagine that she was even higher when she was more active…..before Mother and Murder on the Orient Express she had been pretty quiet the last 5 years.
3. 3 movies with Robert DeNiro….not sure I realized that….though I like the movies she made with my favorite actors….Caine in Sweet Liberty (a fun behind the scenes look at making a movie) and The Story of Us with Bruce Willis….pretty much a sequel to When Harry Met Sally..though not nearly as popular or memorable.
4. First list….is long and impressive…..lots of legend in that list.
5. Poor Roddy McDowall…from 25th to off the list…..that makes me sad for some reason….just saw Roddy in Overboard this weekend….an underappreciated actor.
6. 36 Oscar winners is a better than average total……I imagine more are coming.
7. Good information as always…thanks for sharing it….you are the man.
