  1. Been reading that his Blade Runner character died in 2019 and how eerie it is that he died for real in 2019. Thoughts and prayers to his family.

  2. RIP Rutger Hauer. Sad news.

The first film I saw Rutger in was Nighthawks (1981) he played a terrorist chased around New York by Sylvester Stallone and Billy Dee Williams.

But his most iconic role IMO has to be as Roy Batty, the murderous replicant in Blade Runner. His last words in that film is one of the most famous in science fiction –

“I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time… like tears in rain… time to die.”

I’ve seen 15 of the 37 films on the chart, I haven’t seen any of his Dutch output. Favorites include – Nighthawks, Blind Fury, Ladyhawke, Sin City, Flesh + Blood, Valerian, Batman Begins and of course Blade Runner.

Blade Runner wasn’t a big hit but over the years it’s gained in popularity and ratings with some critics dubbing it the Citizen Kane of sci-fi movies.

A good tribute Bruce. Vote Up.

    1. Hey Steve….thanks for the return comment after yesterday’s alert comment. First all of….“I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time… like tears in rain… time to die.” is a great movie scene….cue the white dove and you might have the best death scene in movie history. Right there with Harry Stamper in Armageddon…lol.

I have seen 20 of the movies listed…so I am just a little bit higher than yours. He blew me away in Blade Runner…..and after seeing that one…he was in heavy rotation on HBO (my main source for movies in the early 1980s) in Nighthawks. I am surprised more people have not mentioned his role in The Hitcher…..that is a cult classic…and he is amazing in the role.

Blade Runner’s legacy grows and grows with each passing year. Thanks for sharing your movie memoires on Mr. Hauer. Rest in Peace.

    1. Hey Dan…yep…sad sad news. I was really surprised when Steve told me and us about his passing. He might not have been a leading star anymore….but he was constantly working…which made the news so surprising. Apparently his death was after a short illness….so it least he was not in pain too long.

With 170 plus IMDb credits….I am not too surprised he was #22…..he has a few more credits left to be released…so he will be highly rated for awhile. Great lists as always…..16 Oscar winning co-stars seems on the low side…..but he made many of his movies in his homeland.

Good stuff as always…Rest in Peace.
