2. Frank Langella has won four Tony Awards® .

3. Considers Masters of the Universe (1987) one of his favorite movies. He accepted the role of “Skeletor” as a gift to his children – particularly his son, Frank A. 1. I’ve seen 15 of the 44 films on the chart, less than I thought. Favorites include – Dracula, Dave, Nixon/Frost, Superman Returns, Small Soldiers and Masters of the Universe.

Enjoyed the trivia – Didn’t know Whoopi Goldberg was his girlfriend. His Skeletor was memorable though you never see his face, just his eyes.

Frank Langella is one of my favorite screen Draculas. He had successfully played Dracula on Broadway in 1977. Director John Badham was a big fan of the stage production and signed Langella up for the movie version.

Dracula: “You fools! Do you think with your crosses and your wafers you can destroy me? You do not know how many men have come against me. I am the king of my kind! You have accomplished nothing. Time is on my side. In a century, when you are dust, I shall wake and call Lucy, my queen from her grave. I have in my time had many brides, Mr. Harker. But I shall set Lucy above them all.”
Jonathan Harker: “You won’t get Lucy.”
    Dracula: “She’s mine already.”

Happy to see Dracula grossed over $100m adjusted. Cutthroat Island was an expensive flop. who says I’m not interested in the grosses? 😉

    Good stuff Bruce. Vote Up!

    1. Hey Steve….thanks for sharing your thoughts on Frank Langella. My tally count is at 26…so you are 11 behind me. I like all of your favorites. Mr. Langella likes his Master of the Universe more than any other movie he made. I think it has to do with his kids and the content of the movie…because as you say…he is not seen in the movie….just the eyes. I really like his Archer voice role in Small Soldiers. Yep he was Whoopi’s man. They made two movies together…falling in love on the set of Eddie. Dracula is the movie that I first noticed him. Seems that movie really scared the pre-teen Cogerson. Cutthroat Island is considered one of the biggest box office bombs of all-time….I actually think Frank has the best role in the movie. As for your denial of box office…good to see you finally recognizing your issue…that is the first step to getting better….lol. Just take baby steps…and we will get you in the Box Office club.

    1. Hey Dan. Thanks for the trivia lists on Mr. Langella. Really surprised he is that high on the Oracle list. But…seeing the massive lists you produced it makes sense to me. First list is massive! Looks like Kevin Dunn is his most frequent co-star (a Small Soldiers connection). Speaking of Small Soldiers that is a weird consequence (26). As for his 26 Oscar winning co-stars…I would say that is a below average total for an actor at the end of his career. Then again, he could be like Christopher Plummer and Michael Caine….actors approaching 90 that are still cranking out lots of movies. Good stuff as always.

  3. When the younger Frank Langella appeared in the 1974 TV production The Mark of Zorro, critics laughed at his performance as the legendary hero with one Hirsch-type savagely comparing Frank’s physical appearance in the movie to that of an “Italian waiter”.

However to my mind in later years Frank gave some brilliant performances and my personal faves among them are:

    (1) HisNixon era H.R. Bob Haldeman-type White House Chief of Staff Bob Alexander in 1993’s Dave.
    (2) His CBS Chief Executive William Paley in 2005’s Good Night and Good Luck.
    (3) His Oscar/Golden Globe nominated Richard Nixon in 2008’s Frost/Nixon.

I therefore welcome this new page. (1) and (2) are my two fave Langella movies. Frank has a reported net worth today of $5 million.

    1. Hey Bob …..thanks for sharing your thoughts on Frank Langella. Interesting review of his performance as Zorro. I had not even heard of that production until reading your comment. Growing up he was always Dracula to me. Looking at his entire career…horror movies are not a huge part of it…yet he will always be The Count when I think of him. Your favorite Frank movies are all very good movies….even Good Night and Good Luck (even with Clooney being the main force behind that one). Frank wrote a book about his career…Dropped Names: Famous Men and Women As I Knew Them…it is pretty entertaining….with stories from some legends like Olivier, Elizabeth Taylor and Monty Clift. Good stuff as always.

  4. I have seen 26 of these movies. For some reason UMR Hall Of Famer G.C. Vandross and I were discussing Mr. Langella….that conversation…..got Frank to get his very own UMR page.
