Early this month we were wrote a page on Actors or Actresses With Most Bad Movies. To make that list an actor or actress had to have a lot of movies with a UMR score of 10.00 or less. Some commenters on that page suggested we have a page that looks at the opposite end of that query. This page is the result of that suggestion. To make this list, we looked at actors and actresses that had the most movies with a UMR score of 90.00 or higher. To earn more than 90.00 in our ranking system, the movie had to be a box office success, received some Oscar love and liked by professional critics and general movie going audiences. So which actor has the most good movies? To answer that question we created a few reports to shed some light on this thought process. Here are the results.
Here are the actors or actresses that have at least 18 movies with an UMR Score of 90.00 or higher.
James Stewart 29
Cary Grant 28
Gary Cooper 27

The really cool thing about this table is that it is “user-sortable”. Rank the movies anyway you want. Column index.
- Column 1 – is name of the actor or actress
- Column 2 – is how many movies the actor/actress made that had an UMR Score of less than 10.00
- Column 3 – how many total movies we have in our database of that actor or actress
- Column 4 – percentage of 10.00 or less UMR Score Movies
- To make the table a minimum of 10 movies of 90.00 or higher UMR Score movies was needed
- Some of the actors/actresses that appear on UMR table have not been fully researched by UMR, so were excluded from the percentage leaders above

I’m calling shenanigans, you have Charlton Heston’s picture at the top but he isn’t listed anywhere on the charts! I thought Mr. Epic was going to top them all! [bursts into tears]
I don’t recognise any of the other names on here… I’m leaving… [Stop it Steve!]
I see Brando made the list, that should please Bob.
Wait… Bruce Willis has more great movies in his C.V. than Judah Ben-Hur? Is this an alternate universe?
Good to see John Wayne near the top. The top 6 golden greats I have no problem with but after that it’s every man for himself, into the lifeboats! I’m kidding.
Nice to see Vincent Price has a few good movies under his belt. Myrna Loy did well too.
Interesting idea Bruce, the opposite of the previous one which had the most bad movies. Was Chuck listed on that one? tsk tsk I might forgive you some day…. walks out in a huff…
😉
Wow Bob and I posted at exactly the same time, what are the odds?
STEVE I think that you and I posting something at exactly the same time about the same subject shows how much in harmony we are.
On the subject of harmony [or disharmony] I was wondering if I should suggest to Work Horse that as an addition to his excellent versus series [eg Crawford v Davis] it would be worthwhile starting a Cogerson v Lensman page which recorded the greatest ratings agreements and disagreements between you and Grocery Boy as reflected in my Top 6s comparisons when I respond to your videos.
Maybe though it would provoke too many poisonous quarrels like we’re getting over Brexit at present.? [Though for the purpose of the suggested additional ‘versus’ exercise if it did go ahead you could be Boris and he could be Michael Gove.]
But America’s most popular actor and its greatest mumbler BOTH doing well on a WH ranking page! I wonder if the Cogerson Household ‘s copy of the 1983 Necronomicon has gone missing for now?
Bob, I think Bruce would rather forget our little disagreements, mostly minor, everyone has an opinion that’s how it is. Don’t forget we also agree on a lot of things so it’s not fair to highlight the negative.
About this new page, do you think the charts are correct and Heston hasn’t made more than 9 good films? Even Dean Martin has made it to the chart with 13 high scoring movies, which films I wonder? The Matt Helm series?
Bill Hader’s up there too. Who?
😉
p.s. oh look your Joan (Crawford) is missing from the chart too. ooh.
At least our Myrna hasn’t been forgotten. 🙂
HI STEVE
Well WH may have been prepared to defy Joel by including Mumbles and The Duke but it would have been a stretch for him to include Joan when she was in competition with Myrna for Queen Bee at MGM and Joan won according to Melvyn Douglas.
Now if the criterion had been actresses with THE LEADING ROLE in most good movies and WH had been honest about it he would have produced a chart where Crawford was in and Myrna had disappeared off the scene.
For my money though that picture of Chuck above is the centre of attraction on this new page even if he’s not mentioned. Maybe WH likes looking at Chuck in preference to Chuck’s films
HI STEVE For my money Chuck made droves of good movies but here off the top of my head in no particular order are 15 that are considered by many enlightened critics as top notch:
Major Dundee
The War Lord
Khartoum
The Ten Commandments
Touch of Evil
The Big Country
Ben Hur
El Cid
Agony and the Ecstasy
Will Penny
Planet of the Apes
Soylent Green
The Three Musketeers [1973]
The Four Musketeers
The Naked Jungle
As I say that list is based on the opinions of OTHERS but I too personally think the same 15 would enhance any performer’s filmography
That’s an excellent list Bob, that’s why I’m surprised Chuck didn’t make the page, apart from the eyecatching photo. 🙂
Now, does Dean Martin, and I’m a fan, have a comparable list of good movies? He did make the chart. As did Tony Curtis.
Well Bruce did admit a few years ago that he wasn’t really a Heston fan and was only now catching up on some of his best films. Just sayin’…. [wink]

HI MAN OF A THOUSAND PROFESSIONS For the past fortnight I have been unable to access the entries flagged up in the boxes at the sides of your pages even when I clear away the ads. so when seeking admittance to a new page I have had to gain access to it via the flag-ups along the tops of pages.
Unfortunately Grocery Boy is not listed at the moment on the page tops and whilst it and the 90.00+ survey are obviously not topics that complement each other I would wish to compliment you on Grocery Boy if I find it worth reading. I hope so because I too was a grocery boy years ago.
I wonder the problem that I have mentioned is peculiar to just my computer or do you know if others are experiencing it?
However gaining access isn’t always good for the ego because I see that you never got round to replying to my 29 May post on the “Most Bad Movies”– maybe too busy delivering groceries immediately after teaching!
As I gave a lot of thought to that Most Bad Movies page and to my own response to it, perhaps I should heed my Bible more, particularly 7:6 of the Gospel of Matthew in the New Testament which is part of the Sermon on the Mount-
“Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet.”
Interesting to see the contrast of this page to that of the most films below 10.0.
Great to see so many of my favourites in the top 20. Gregory Peck in 11th pace with 21 films 90% or better and with a 40.0% rate is wonderful.
Glad that Stewart, Grant, Cooper, Tracy, Bogart, Gable, Garland, Lancaster, Loy, and Fonda have high totals of 90.0 plus films.
Hey Flora. Thanks for checking out this page. Seems the classic stars own the “count” list while the younger stars own the “percentage” list…..but….those percentages will drop the more movies they make. I figured you would enjoy that Peck made both lists. This and the “bad” movies have been fun to put together and look at….thanks for the feedback.
Do you realize that if you sort by lowest percentage, Michael Caine is sitting in second to last place? Are you ok with that? Are you not a fan of him anymore? Certainly things have not changed that much since my last visit. Got a week off work, so I figured it was time to catch up on UMR.
Good to hear from you SteinHoF16…your sense of humor has been missed. Hope you enjoy your time off of work. Yep….I see that Mr. Caine is down the list when looking %. At least he has at lest 10 or more great movies. Glad you found time to catch up on UMR.
The title of this page sounds so bad…but I can not figure out a better way to name this page. Hope everybody had a good weekend. Last week of school is starting. 4 days of school…and one teacher day….then…………….SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sounds like you are excited about the end of the school year.
Hey SteinHo16….just a little bit….lol.
