There does not seem to a middle ground when it comes to Adam Sandler’s movies.  Either you love them or you hate them.  It seems the older you are the more likely you are to be in the “hate them” club.  Whether you are a Sandler fan or not there is one thing that can not be argued…..Adam Sandler movies generate some serious box office heat.  Adam Sandler (1966-) got his first big break when he began appearing on Saturday Night Live in 1990.  After appearing in some supporting roles in movies like Mixed Nuts and Airheads, he took on the lead role in Billy Madison (1995).  The success of Billy Madison opened the door for almost 20 years of non-stop box office success for Sandler.

His IMDb page shows over 75 acting credits since 1987. This page will rank Adam Sandler movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Television appearances, cameos and his straight to DVD movies were not included in the rankings.

  • Sort Adam Sandler movies by co-stars of his movies
  • Sort Adam Sandler movies by adjusted domestic box office grosses using current movie ticket cost (in millions)
  • Sort Adam Sandler movies by yearly domestic box office rank.
  • Sort Adam Sandler movies by how they were received by critics and audiences.  60% rating or highis should indicate a good movie.
  • Sort by how many Oscar® nominations and how many Oscar® wins each Adam Sandler movie received.

  1. I think you have to throw out Airheads and Mixed Nuts, as they were before he was a movie star. And then I would move down Little Nicky. That’s my boy would be a little higher.

    1. Hey Gerry….thanks for the visit and the comment. True Mixed Nuts and Airheads were early Sandler movies….but he was used to promote the movies…so even they did not generate much box office heat….they are still Sandler movies. I agree with you about Little Nicky…that was one of the worst movies I have seen in theaters….I would have left my sons seemed to be having a good time. I wonder if they (now that they are adults) could sit through the whole movie now?

  2. I try with his movies but like you said, either they’re really good or really awful. The first Grown Ups didn’t work for me, so I know the second will feel even worse. However, no matter how intolerable his films are, he’s still rolling in money- that’s a skill I wish I had.

    1. Thanks for the visit and comment Alecia. Sandler movies are either really good or really really bad….sadly it seems the really really bad movies are the ones that he makes today. But like you said…his ability to earn money is a skill we could all use.

  3. I don’t think I was aware that Hotel Transylvania was Adam Sandler. I agree with what most people have said here-he has turned out some real dogs. I actually like the movies where he is a little more serious (Click, 50 First Dates, etc.) Give him credit though, he knows what the public likes, and if he needs some quick cash, he’ll turn on that toilet humor and make a killing at the box office. I think everyone would agree that Jack and Jill was a failure, yet according to your table it still grossed 74 million?!? I wish I could “fail” at my job and gross 74 million!

Suffice it to say, if a Sandler movie is on TV, I’ll probably watch, but that’s about it.

    1. Hey First Colony….yep Hotel Transylvania is from the creative mind of Adam Sandler…I am sure after the quick dismissal of That’s My Boy the studio was nervous about how well the movie would do….but it is now the biggest opening weekend movie in September ever….not too bad…and should help get Jack and Jill further behind him. You are right about his ability to give the public what it wants…..and even a failure like Jack and Jill brought in some money ….as you write….I will take a failure that generates 74 million in revenue. Thanks for the comment.

    1. Hey Made…thanks for checking out my Sandler hub. His movies might not be thought too highly by critics…but you have to give the man credit when it comes to this box office muscle. Not many people can open a movie with almost a guarantee of 100 million.

  4. As always great information. We aren’t theater goers so I’ll have to wait for it to be on HBO. Some of Sandler’s movies are good, others kind of stupid IMHO.

    1. Thanks for the visit tillsontitan….I think Jack and Jill is easily one to wait for…it is currently the worst reviewed movie of the year so far…his movies usually do not get good reviews..but these reviews are some of the worst of his career.
