I have received not one, not two but three requests to do a movie page on Sir Philip Anthony Hopkins (1937-), best known as Anthony Hopkins. The first time I noticed Anthony Hopkins was in his role in A Bridge Too Far in 1977. In a movie loaded with stars, I thought his role as Colonel Frost was one of the best parts in the movie. His most famous role is playing Hannibal Lecter in the Silence of the Lambs trilogy. He has appeared in over 60 movies since 1968. He has received three Oscar® nominations for Best Actor (Silence of the Lambs, Remains of the Day, Nixon) and one Oscar® nomination for Best Supporting Actor (Amistad). He won the Oscar® for Best Actor in Silence of the Lambs.

Excellent actor! “The Lion in Winter” is one of the greatest movies ever. “Silence of the Lambs” was great too, but the sequel “Hannibal” was just awful! I really enjoyed his interpretation of Captain Bligh in “the Bounty” (he brought more substance and depth to the character than Charles Laughton’s more evil version). His wacky version of Van Helsing in “Dracula” was a hoot!
I think “A Bridge Too far” was the first thing I saw him in, too. Of the Hopkins movies I’ve seen, I’d say “Freejack” was the worst, although “Hannibal” is pretty close to the bottom, too.

Hey Rob….I thought he was awesome in A Bridge Too Far…I just rewatched Lion in Winter…it was great seeing O’Toole, Hopkins and Dalton when they were so young…talk about a weird family Hepburn the mother was 61 when she made the movie….O’Toole the father was 36….Hopkins the son was 31 …but they made it work…..I still think the best Hannibal movie is Manhunter which does not star Hopkins….I know I am pretty much alone thinking that…..I think his strangest part was The Road to Wellville…thanks for reading
