Anthony Hopkins Movies

Want to know the best Anthony Hopkins movies?  How about the worst Anthony Hopkins movies?  Curious about Anthony Hopkins box office grosses or which Anthony Hopkins movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which Anthony Hopkins movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences and which ones got the worst? Well you have come to the right place….because we have all of that information.

I have received not one, not two but three requests to do a movie page on Sir Philip Anthony Hopkins (1937-), best known as Anthony Hopkins. The first time I noticed Anthony Hopkins was in his role in A Bridge Too Far in 1977. In a movie loaded with stars, I thought his role as Colonel Frost was one of the best parts in the movie. His most famous role is playing Hannibal Lecter in the Silence of the Lambs trilogy. He has appeared in over 60 movies since 1968. He has received three Oscar® nominations for Best Actor (Silence of the Lambs, Remains of the Day, Nixon) and one Oscar® nomination for Best Supporting Actor (Amistad). He won the Oscar® for Best Actor in Silence of the Lambs.

His IMDb page shows over 135 acting credits since 1965. This page will rank 69 Anthony Hopkins movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Television shows, shorts, cameos and movies that were not released in theaters were not included in the rankings.

  1. In the movie The Silence of the Lambs, a series of murders are committed by an unidentified killer dubbed “Buffalo Bill” who skins his victims. Eventually, at one stage while carrying out an autopsy of one of the victims, the investigators notice the ‘pupa’ of a Death’s-head Hawkmoth in the victim’s throat. Through further investigations they zero in on the particular species, identified as Acherontia Styx, which is not a native in the US, implying that it must have been imported by the killer, a small yet crucial clue.

Anthony Hopkins played the role of Dr. Hannibal Lecter in an extraordinary manner! The movie released in 1991 perhaps, and after 20 years I can remember everything! Hats off to Anthony Hopkins, and hats off to you! – Andy

    1. Hey Andycool….sorry I somehow did not see your comment…that is interesting comment about Acherontia Styx you made…and yes it was a great but small clue…thanks for the compliment and comments

  2. Thanks for this mouth watering page, i’m a massive fan of Sir Anthony. He was brilliant as Hannibal Lecter, but my favourite performance of his was in The Remains Of The Day when he played a Butler. It was one of the best, most realistic performances ever. He was also great in Fracture and The World’s Fastest Indian. Most actors have movies that bomb, but not many reach the heights that this great actor achieved. Cheers Mr Cogerson, great movie tribute.

    1. attemptedhumour….I knew that Remains of the Day was one of your favorites so I was glad when it finished in the Top 10…..it would have been higher if it would have been a bigger box office hit here in the states…thanks for reading and commenting

  3. Silence of the Lamb and Hannibal and that whole series of movies scare me. I am not a big fan of Anthony Hopkins, but I am a big fan of yours and I will read anything by you. I know I will learn some new things. Thanks for a well put together hub as usual. Rated up and useful.
