Need to know which Anton Yelchin movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences? Well you have come to the right place.

June 19th, 2016 – While waiting for a table for a Father’s Day dinner.

Bern1960:  So Cogerson what did you get for Father’s Day?

Cogerson: Let’s see….Wife of Cogerson got me From Russia With Love and Northwest Passage…which means I now own all of dad’s Top 5 movies of all-time…..and the kids got me a Odd Thomas Blu-ray and a Odd Thomas book…..because that has become one of my favorite movies and I want to read the book that the movie is based on.

Scotty Son #2:  It is a shame about him dying.

Cogerson: Who died?

Scotty Son #2: Anton Yelchin…the guy that played Odd Thomas….and Chekov on Star Trek.

Cogerson:  Get the hell out of here….what are you talking about?

Bern1960:  Chekov died?

Scotty Son #2:  Not the old guy that played Chekov but the young guy who played him in the movies. He died in some crazy car accident today.

Cogerson:  Hey Wife of Cogerson….can I see your iPhone?

And that is how I found out that Anton Yelchin had passed away.   I have been following his career ever since I enjoyed his performance opposite Anthony Hopkins in 2001’s Hearts in Atlantis.  Even though he was only 27 years old his movie career was already closing in on 20 years.  As he got older he was doing a nice balance of appearing in blockbuster movies (Star Trek, Terminator: Salvation) and quirky interesting movies (Odd Thomas, Green Room, Alpha Dog).   When a movie star’s death bothers me…I tend to do a UMR page on their career….as it tends to make me feel better.  Well gotta say the death of this young man is bothering me.

Odd Thomas which is a mix of Men In Black, The Sixth Sense and The Frighteners ...has become one of my favorite movies.

He began performing in the late 1990s, appearing in several television roles and the Hollywood films Along Came a Spider and Hearts in Atlantis (both 2001). His role as Jacob Clarke in the Steven Spielberg miniseries Taken was significant in furthering his career as a child actor.[1] He later appeared on the television series Huff and starred in the films Terminator Salvation (2009), Charlie Bartlett (2007), Fright Night (2011), Like Crazy (2011) and Only Lovers Left Alive (2013).  Yelchin was best known for portraying Pavel Chekov in the Star Trek reboot series, appearing in Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek Into Darkness (2013), and will appear posthumously in Star Trek Beyond (2016).”

  1. I agree with all of the tragic, rest in peace comments but his death sounds like a Darwin candidate. He will be missed.

    1. Hey Traci…gotta agree with you….getting run over by the car you were driving is probably a good candidate for a Darwin award. Rest in Peace Anton Yelchin!

  2. So sad. I thought it was a hoax when I first heard the news. What a tragic loss of a young life. A promising young actor with his whole life still ahead of him. And it was a freak car accident which could have come straight out of the horror series Final Destination as one person mentioned on another site.

I was talking with Bruce about ‘Odd Thomas’ a few days ago, I’m a fan of this film too.

I thought Yelchin was perfectly cast as the young Chekov in the Star Trek reboot and I’m looking forward to seeing him in the third film of this series Star Trek Beyond.

Looking at the charts I’ve seen 10 of the 24 films listed. Favorites include the two Star Treks, Odd Thomas, Terminator Salvation and Alpha Dog.

I haven’t seen Green Room yet.

A nice tribute Bruce. What a terrible year this has been for celebrity deaths.

    1. Hey Steve.
      1. I first I thought…then I hoped Scotty was messing around with me….wish he had been!
      2. You were thinking Final Destination….I was thinking about the bodachs from Odd Thomas.
      3. I agree with you he made the perfect Chekov….,and Odd Thomas. It is a shame that the movie did nothing….as there are lots of Odd adventures out there. He is one of Dean Koontz’s favorite characters that he created with lots and lots of books.,
      4. I have seen 17 of his movie….I want to see The Green Room….as well as his last Enterprise adventure.
2016 is taking out a lot of my favorite celebrities….watch your back Sir Michael the next time you go and check the mail.

      1. You will note that I did not bother to publish a total of films seen. I did not know this actor.

I agree that 2016 is taking a lot of my favourites away too.

  3. I was very sad to see this news today, as I’ve been a fan of Yelchin’s since first seeing him as a kid actor. I watched him grow through his teenage years to a young adult and an interesting performer of rare intelligence, in an era where that quality isn’t always prized in film. I’ve seen 11 of the ones listed above, as well as a number TV appearances. I have Odd Thomas on Blu Ray, as well as Like Crazy, but I haven’t watched either yet. Such a strange, freak accident, and a terrible end to a young life.

    1. Hi, Lawrence.

It is such a terrible way to end a life.

Being that I live near Maple Ridge, we have a lot of famous athletes from there. I remember like it was yesterday when I turned on the television to discover that Greg Moore died during a car race by driving into a wall. He was 19. Stunned.
      Tragic.
But: he was a race car driver driving in a race. Death is not unusual in an occupation that is dangerous.

People are going to die in battle.

But – you do not expect someone to die in their driveway by their car backing up.

People say that everything happens for a reason. But I see no reason for this.

      1. Hey Flora….yeah it sounds like maybe he was trying to check his mail….and forgot to leave the car in park. No matter how it happened…it is just tragic.

    2. Hey Lawrence A. I am right there with you about following him for years….it was like watching a child growing up (I have a 28 year old…so their ages are so close). From Hearts in Atlantis to Charlie Bartlett to Star Trek to lead adult roles in Odd Thomas and 5 to 7 (an underrated love story). I have seen 17 of the movies listed. Shockingly even thought I have fairly small children I have not seen either Smurfs movie. He will be missed for sure. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Mr. Anton.

    1. Hey Stein…I have seen Odd Thomas three times and it gets better with each viewing. I think you will enjoy it….though my wife did not enjoy as much as I did.
