Funny Girl would be her second biggest box office hit of her career and win her the Oscar® for Best Actress. The peak of her movie career was from 1968 to 1979. She would appear in the blockbusters What’s Up Doc?, A Star Is Born, Funny Girl and The Way We Were. After nearly a ten year break from movies, she appeared as Ben Stiller’s mom in 2004’s Meet the Fockers and 2010’s Little Fockers and most recently as Seth Rogen’s mom in The Guilt Trip (2012)

I think that’s my problem with What’s Up Doc?-I prefer Bringing Up Baby
Hey Flora…I think it has been almost 40 years since What’s Up Doc was released it is a classic…just not as classic as Grant and Hepburn’s version. I am currently watching Spencer Tracy’s Jekyll and Hyde….I am always amazed that Donald Crisp seems to show up in many movies in the golden era.
Hi, Cogerson.
I don’t think you’ll find many surprises with my love of music and older films. One thing: I will say that though the theme song is beautiful, I cannot stand her version of A Star Is Born. It is over the top. And notice how my preferences are not necessarily at the top of either of the three ranking lists.
Here are my 5 favourite Barbra Streisand films in alphabetical order:
Hello Dolly (although I prefer the live version starring the great Carol Channing I saw in Vancouver. I think I enjoy this film specifically for louis Armstrong)
Funny Girl
On a Clear Day You Can See Forever
The Way We Were
Yentl
Hey Flora. I guess the most surprising thing is What’s Up Doc did not make your Top 5. Howard Hawks helped Bognavoich the director with the film….as it is sort of a remake of the classic Bringing Up Baby. Hello Dolly got some love when Wall-E used the music and clips as Wall-E’s favorite movie. I like Matthau’s character in Hello Dolly. I have yet to see On a Clear Day You Can See Forever….which is probably one of the few Nicholson movies I have not seen.
A Star is Born was very successful at the box office….but it was not well liked by the public after they spent their money to see it….it has not aged well. I will have to give Ms. Streisand some props her movie career from Funny Girl to Main Event is pretty impressive with some monster hits to boot. Thanks for checking out my Barbra page
Another great page! By the way, you’ve made it on the Hubpages Facebook page again. You are kicking butt! Congratulations! Voted up on here and voted “like” on Facebook. 🙂
Thank you Jeannieinabottle….and thanks for voting up both places…it is greatly appreciated.
Amazing, I was really only aware of her singing, sure I knew she had made some movies, but I was not aware of how big she was in the 1970s at the box office. Another reason why she is such a great lady. She looks so pretty in the What’s Up Doc! photo you attached. I have some movies I need to go and watch. Thanks for writing this awesome page
Thanks AlabamaGirl86, I am glad my page was able to shine some more light on her movie career, I was equally impressed when I realized just how successful her 1968 to 1979 movie run was…as always thanks for stopping by
Steisand in Funny Girl, was my all time favorite movie of hers. Great page
