HI STEVE. Thanks for the feedback, additional information, splendid quotes and confirming about Mr Gimme More. In that photo he certainly doesn’t look like the handsome and charming ladies’ man that WH may think he is!I
I do think it is a good idea of yours that production costs be included in WH’s charts where available, because in the end the relationship between costs and grosses [indeed ‘rentals’ to be more accurate] is what determines a film’s commercial success.
One drawback is though that today on top of production costs the producers spend colossal sums on promotion, advertising material and providing large numbers of prints for saturation releases. As far as I know that kind of information is rarely available.
However I’ll hold your coat while YOU try to convince WH in the matter because he can be stubborn about altering his information layout and the kind of detail that he provides! Do you remember my trying to convince him that he was possibly misleading viewers into believing that Angela Lansbury and not Hedy Lamarr played Delilah?
By the way I was visited on Tuesday by relatives from your neck of the woods: a cousin and her son from Burnley and her married daughter who now lives in Manchester itself. I explained that I was a fan of your videos and when they told me that they knew you I immediately started gushing a lot of nonsense about what a great guy you are until I realised they were pulling my leg about knowing you!
Just as I can imagine WH talking like John Wayne it occurred to me that listening to those relatives might be like hearing you speak though they said that although I probably could not pick it up there were slight differences between the Burnley and Manchester accents. Anyway take care.

Seen 39 of the 40 movies listed here. Only #39 War Machine has escaped me. I have access to Net Flixx…but I rarely watch it. Based on it’s low rating…not thinking I am missing much. Favorites would include #4 Twelve Monkeys, #7 Moneyball, #11 Ocean’s Eleven, #17 Snatch and #10 True Romance. Not a huge fan of some of his “critical darlings”…Tree of Life and 12 YearsA Slave come to mind. I have seen #3 Once A Upon A Time In Hollywood…still weighing it’s greatness or not so greatnes….as I liked it on first viewing…just not as much as some of Tarantino’s other movies. Voted up and shared
Hi Bruce, 39 out of 40 is impressive, I’m not far behind, I’ve seen 34, Flora 4.
I’ve got Netflix too but forgot all about War Machine, might be worth a look. I included 12 Years a Slave, though his role was small, because it won Pitt an Oscar as producer, his only Oscar so far.
Thanks for the comment, vote and share, much appreciated.
These are some of the factors that illustrate the measure of Brad Pitt’s considerable success on the big screen:
1/He is ranked 19th in Bruce’s list of the 25 greatest male legends 1950-2010.
2/Bruce’s recent book of the 50 Greatest movie stars of all time, male and female, ranks Brad 44th. In that 50 overall, Brad is one of just 16 males and 1 female [Meryl Streep] to make the cut who are perceived to have achieved stardom in the modern era of movies – ie the other 33 listed are regarded as having achieved stardom in 1950 or earlier [eg Paul Newman].
3/As we know all Bruce’s rankings are calculated against highly credible diverse criteria, but in terms of acting ability ALONE some other sources have ranked Brad an average of 48th among modern male thespians.
4/Brad is among the wealthiest movie stars in al time with a reported net worth of $300 million.
5/IMDB credits him with 69 acting awards and 152 noms.
16 of Brad’s movies have crossed the magical Cogerson $100 million mark in adjusted domestic grosses. The total of his Top 30 worldwide hits in the above table comes to an inflation-adjusted $10.2 billion approx. in today’s money, a magnificent average of around $380 million per movie. My own quick manual calculation of all Bruce’s figures suggest that overall the split between Brad’s domestic and worldwide grosses might be around 40/60% in favour of foreign grosses.
Best POSTERS in video, entries 40-21: 1/War Machine 2/Johnny Suede 3/Killing them Softly 4/Sinbad 5/1st one for Ocean’s 13 6/Kalifornia 7/two for Allied 8/Seven Years in England 9/a River Runs through It 10/World War Z 11/Burn after Reading – someone else must have got hold of a copy of Joel’s book!.
My pick of the STILLS, all entries 1/two for Devil’s Own 2/with my Julia in Mexican 3/Ocean’s 12 4/Meet Joel Black 5/2 for Mr and Mrs Smith 6/World War Z 7/Legends of the Fall 8/Snatch 9/Troy 10/Fury 11/Benjamin Button 12/two for Seven – especially the one with my Morg 13/with Gorgeous George in Ocean’s 11 14/with Mr Gimme More [I think?] 15/with Redford in Spy Game 16/Inglorious Basterds 17/Ladd Club
Best POSTERS 1-20 1/1st one for Legends of Fall 2/two for Megamind – I bet the first Megamind one got YOU excited! 3/two for Troy 4/foreign language one for Fury 5/True Romance 6/set for Inglorious Basterds 7/foreign language one for Moneyball 8/two for Ladd Club 9/12 Monkeys 10/first one for Once Upon a Time in Manchester 11/ 2nd one for Seven.
Excellent and deserving a 97.5% rating. You and Bruce agree on 3 of Brad’s Top 6 best reviewed: Thelma and Louise,12 Years a Slave and Once upon a Time etc. I was surprised that Seven [which you have at No 2] didn’t make Bruce’s 6 but he did give it a 82% rating. Also I would have Ladd Club [your No 5] in my top 6.
Hi Bob, thanks for the review, rating, info, trivia and comparison, always appreciated.
Happy you liked the posters and stills.
That was Bruce Willis with Pitt in 12 Monkeys.
Interesting to read your post on Pitt’s impressive box office clout over the years. Looking at Bruce’s chart there are only a small handful of outright bombs in his filmography. Jesse James and True Romance were notable failures.
It might be a cool idea for Bruce to consider adding the cost of each film where known, next to the box office chart. Box Office Mojo and IMDB do contain such info on many films. And googling “production budget for True Romance” for instance will give you the answer at the top of the page, $13m.
Four of Brad Pitt’s films scored 10 out of 10 from my sources – Thelma & Louise, Fight Club, Seven and 12 Years a Slave.
Top rated at IMDB is Seven, no.1 at RT is 12 Years a Slave.
Pitt on the stress of filming Interview with the Vampire – “One day, it broke me… I called David Geffen, who was the producer… I said, “David, I can’t do this anymore. I can’t do it. How much will it take to get me out?”. And he goes, very calmly, “Forty million dollars.”
“I grew up very religious, and I don’t have a great relationship with religion. I oscillate between agnosticism and atheism.”
Pitt on the Academy Awards nomination process – “I’ve been around long enough to know it’s very fickle and it’s a cyclical wheel. But I will say this: it’s surprisingly fun when your number comes up.”
After several nominations Pitt finally won an Oscar as producer of 12 Years a Slave.
I have loved this man since 1988 when i saw him on a made for TV movie. I own all of his movies except for a few.
Hey Kim T. He has had a great career…..and the early box office results for Once Upon A Time In Hollywood show he is still a major player as he reaches 60. Good feedback.
