*Bruce Willis is taking a break from acting as he battles aphasia, a neurological condition that affects the ability to communicate. 3/30/2022
Want to know the best Bruce Willis movies? How about the worst Bruce Willis movies? Curious about Bruce Willis’s box office grosses or which Bruce Willis movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which Bruce Willis movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences? Well you have come to the right place.
I have followed Bruce Willis’ career since he hit the big time with his star making role as David Addison on Moonlighting. I still think the Moonlighting 3 episode story arc with Mark Harmon, was some the best television I have ever seen and the pinnacle of that series. Since Moonlighting, Bruce Willis has had a very busy career, making over 60 movies over the last 27 years. It has been a roller coaster ride…the highs….. movies like Pulp Fiction, most of the Die Hards, and The Sixth Sense…..the lows….movies like The Whole Ten Yards, Hudson Hawk, Bonfire of the Vanities and North. His IMDb page shows 145 acting credits since 1980. In the table below, Ultimate Movie Rankings ranks movies in 6 different sortable columns.
Bruce Willis Movies Ranked In Chronological Order With Ultimate Movie Rankings Score (1 to 5 UMR Tickets) *Best combo of box office, reviews, and awards.

4. Bruce Willis’ big break was getting the role in the television series Moonlighting (1985-1989). Glenn Gordon Caron had to fight with ABC to put Willis in the lead role having already signed Shepherd for both the pilot and series. Caron claims he tested Willis about a third of the way through testing over 2,000 actors, knew “this was the guy” immediately, and had to fight through twice as many more acting tests and readings while arguing with ABC executives before receiving (initial) conditional authorization to cast Willis in the pilot. ABC, according to Caron, did not feel that anyone viewing would think there could possibly be any “believable” sexual tension between Shepherd and Willis.

The Jackal is one of Bruce Willis’s greatest performances that he gets almost no credit for. It’s one of the few films where he is a villain, so that may have been off-putting for people. See it if you get the chance, you won’t regret it!
Hey GoForTheJuggler…..I liked The Jackal as well…..loved the scene with Bruce and Jack Black….one of the first times I noticed Jack Black. I actually got to see some of The Jackal being filmed….they filmed some scenes in Richmond Virginia. I got to see Sidney Poitier and Richard Gere but no Bruce Willis. Thanks for the votes.
Bruce Willis…my favorite Hollywood actor. Thank you for sharing the information.
Hey jainismus…..Willis is my favorite actor as well…hope this hub provided you some interesting information on his very long and very busy career….Moonrise Kingdom has been doing well all summer long….and Expendables 2 is coming out in less than two weeks….and then a month later Looper will be here…..lots of Bruce in theaters these days….and I think that is a great thing. Thanks for the visit
Just saw moonrise kingdom it is worth a viewing, Willis is outstanding as a very sad police man.
Hey many g…..glad to hear that you liked Moonrise Kingdom….it is a movie I am looking forward to…and I see it is highly rated on IMDB…something like 217 on their top 250. Thanks for the mini-review.
I talk like this about Hitch or Peck 🙂
I saw Sin City with a group of people who like that sort of film. Otherwise no, I wouldn’t have seen it.
I didn’t realize until halfway through The Others it was the same film-I saw it for Kidman.
I’ll probably see the sixth sense on TV eventually, but I found out about the ending shortly after it started playing in theatres and somehow, that made me annoyed. Keep plot lines secret, please! It’s one thing to talk about Janet Leigh being killed off early in Psycho decades after the movie was made-but while the movie is in its first theatre is wrong. ummm- BAD FORM
That is pretty cool….Flora…thanks for sharing.
Well, being that I’ve recently learned that Bruce Willis is your favourite current actor, I thought I’d comment on his movie page.
First, my favourite part of Bruce’s career is, indeed, Moonlighting. I loved that show. I haven’t seen it in a few years. I have seen a small number of his films.
First:
Still haven’t seen Pulp Fiction but I plan to see it. I’m not a Die Hard movie type, so will likely never see those ones. I was never interested in seeing The Sixth Sense-heard what the ending was not long after it was released. There is a certain other film with Nicole Kidman which is similar…I have seen that one.
Now then, about the top ten movies-ouch. I’ve not seen any of his box office hits. Among critics top ten-I have seen Nobody’s Fool, Sin City, and Red.
The highest movie score listing I’ve seen is Sin City at #13. The most recent film I’ve seen is Red.
My favourite movie of Bruce’s career is Bandits. It is halarious and fits in with thpe of movie genre I enjoy. Reds is a close second because of the cast.
The only other Willis film I’ve seen is Bonfire of the Vanities-why, I don’t know. I must have been with a group of friends.
Hey Flora thanks for checking out (a) my oldest hub….although with all the updates it has received it looks like nothing like the first time I hit the publish button….and (b) my favorite current actor’s hub. I did Bruce first so I could say….he was number one on my chart that complies the information at least for awhile…he has steadily fallen down the chart…he is #53 or so now….but he was first for awhile.
Well I would say my top three Bruce Willis movies are Pulp Fiction, 12 Monkeys and Sixth Sense. The Others is a pale copy of Sixth Sense….the child actor in The Sixth Sense gives one of the best performances by a kid ever….12 Monkeys is a great film that could either be a science fiction film…or a case study of a complete nut in a nuthouse….I have seen the movie 10 to 15 times…I am still not sure what the answer is…and Pulp Fiction is a classic that changed how movies get made.
I am somewhat surprised you have seen Sin City….it is a good movie….but pretty intense and gory….and another movie that changed how movies get made. Red and Bandits are good movies…I did not like the ending of Bandits. Nobody’s Fool would probably be in my Top 5 Willis movies….I love the acting between Willis and Newman.
As for Moonlighting…it was some of the best tv ever….I have been a huge fan of Willis ever since he did some theater work in Norfolk Va….years before he was a star….
Wow I feel like I have been rambling….but I like to talk Willis….lol…thanks for checking out this page.
Hey Flora I think most people kept the ending of The Sixth Sense a secret….especially considering how that movie took America by store….at one point it was the 9th biggest hit of all-time. My 19 year old son and his 18 year old girlfriend just watched The Sixth Sense at our house a couple of weekends ago….she was stunned by the ending….did not see it all.
Hitchcock believed in keeping plot lines secret…I read that when Psycho opened…no was allowed to enter the theater once it started…plus he tried to market it as a comedy/light entertainment…just so he could scare the audience more….the trailers these days till everything there is to no about a movie….Just going back to The Sixth Sense…experiencing the end of The Sixth Sense with a packed theater is one of my most pleasurable movie experiences….I saw it 4 times at the theater….and you could hear waves of people figuring out the movie..it was awesome.
