I have followed Bruce Willis’ career since he hit the big time with his star making role as David Addison on Moonlighting. I still think the Moonlighting 3 episode story arc with Mark Harmon, was some the best television I have ever seen and the pinnacle of that series.  Since Moonlighting, Bruce Willis has had a very busy career, making over 60 movies over the last 27 years. It has been a roller coaster ride…the highs….. movies like Pulp Fiction, most of the Die Hards, and The Sixth Sense…..the lows….movies like The Whole Ten Yards, Hudson Hawk, Bonfire of the Vanities and NorthHis IMDb page shows 145 acting credits since 1980.  In the table below, Ultimate Movie Rankings ranks movies in 6 different sortable columns.

Caron claims he tested Willis about a third of the way through testing over 2,000 actors, knew “this was the guy” immediately, and had to fight through twice as many more acting tests and readings while arguing with ABC executives before receiving (initial) conditional authorization to cast Willis in the pilot. 1. Great movie page and a lot of details on his pecuniary draw to the movies.

He has only had a few bad movies, so not a bad career. If he was a baseball player, he would be in the hall of fame.

    1. Hey id radmasters….I like the baseball analogy….I think you are correct Bruce would be in the Hall of Fame….maybe not the first ballot but probably 2nd or 3rd year. Thanks for stopping by.

    1. Hey mythbuster….the joy of being a Willis fan….he gives you plenty to watch….2011 did not offer much…but he made up for it in 2012….Moonrise Kingdom, Looper and Expendables 2 is his Summer 2012 trilogy….and early next year we get Die Hard 5 and GI Joe 2. T

  2. Well written, great page!!Die hard is too low but seriously Bruce is one of my favorite actors. He is awesome!Voted up and shared!

    1. Hey mmsu….I think his top 3 could rotate….with each of the three being first at sometime….I think Pulp Fiction, The Sixth Sense and Die Hard are some of the best movies of the last 25 years. I appreciate the votes and the nice compliment.

  3. Another excellent movie page. “Breakfast of Champions”? I don’t even remember that. Did it go straight to video? (DVD).

I agree that he has some great comic timing which I think separates him from most action heroes. I’ll go read your Schwartzenegger Hub next, but he certainly can’t hold a candle to Willis as an actual actor.

His comic timing is why Die Hard is such a great move (“Come out to the coast, we’ll have a few laughs. . .”)

As a side note, it’s really a shame that Bonfire of the Vanities was so bad. It was a great book, and with Bruce Willis and Tom Hanks, it seemed like a home run.

    1. Hey First Colony….Breakfast of Champions got a very limited release…I think it earned about 200,000 dollars….I love Bruce Willis and Kurt Vonnegut Jr. is my favorite author so when I heard the movie was being made I was very happy…..and then I saw the movie….it is unwatchable…only Nick Nolte shines in the movie…..easily the worst of Willis’ career. As for Bonfires…..I think they changed so much of the book to make the movie that it lost its power….that being said I think the movie is ok…..not as good as it could have been…but not nearly as bad as it’s reputation.

Thanks for checking out my first movie page….granted it looks nothing like the first attempt….I think this page has gotten about 30 remodels.

  4. Bruce updates Bruce.

52 films in 25 years. Bruce has been a lot more active than Arnie or Sly.

14 films from your list I haven’t seen.

Saw 10 from the box office top 10 and 8 from the critics top 10.

I want to see Moonrise Kingdom, I’ll wait for the disc.

Another useful update, good work amigo.

    1. Hey Steve….thanks for checking out my update on Mr. Willis. He has been a very busy actor over the years….and it looks like he will continue to be busy for a very long time. I think he will be able to easily move into supporting roles…much like Michael Caine…and maybe he will pick up a Oscar nomination along the way.
