Sad sad news. Rest in Peace Carl Reiner. I was really hoping he would reach 100.
In the 1960s Carl was best known for his intense and diverse work on the Dick Van Dyke Show [1961-66] where he combined the skills of creator, producer, writer and actor. Dick is one of my all time fave TV performers but I barely watched that show and warmed to Van Dyke only when he made the TV detective series Diagnosis Murder in the 1993-01 period.
I have seen only 3 of the movies listed on the above table – Mad Mad World, Russians are Coming and The Majestic and of those 3 I liked only the Majestic and Mad Mad World. However I cannot remember Carl in any of them. Indeed when I saw Carl’s name flagged up on yoiur site I thought that you had turned your attentions to the Continental cinema and were profiling the Austrian actor Carl MOHNER who starred in the 1955 French classic Rififi and the Brit war schocker the 1958 Camp on Blood Island.
None of that need reflect on Mr Reiner because he has in his own right 21 acting awards and 18 nominations and amassed $70 million in net worth, Accordingly he has earned this Cogerson page and a “VoteUp!”
Hey Bob…..thanks for the feedback on Carl Reiner. I agree to us older people he is best known for his work on The DVD Show. I bet younger people know him from his work in the Ocean’s Eleven movies….he is probably known as the “really old guy”….with Elliott Gould getting the “old guy” title. 3 Carl Reiner movies seen……thanks for the tally count.
I would say almost all of his famous work has been behind the scenes….when looking at the movie side…his better movies are the ones he directed…especially the Steve Martin movies….though he does Hitchcock almost all of his movies…..even playing the bad guy in Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid.
Interesting about Carl Mohner. I was not aware of him at all. $70 million?….now that is a pretty good golden nugget. Carl with son Rob….are now one of the few parent and children to have their own UMR pages….joining Jamie Lee Curtis with Janet Leigh & Tony Curtis, Michael and Kirk Douglas….and probably one or two more. Good stuff as always.
I will fix as soon as I get back from bus stop. Your error has been fixed.

Hey Flora…thanks for checking out our Carl Reiner page. I have seen 18 of his movies….but not many before the late 1970s. I grew up watching The Dick Van Dyke Show….but have never watched a single episode of Your Show Of Shows. I have seen most of your favorites…missing The Gazebo and A Guide For The Married Man. The Jerk has some funny moments…..but it also has some truly awful moments as well. Thanks for the visit, the comment and the tally count.
Carl Reiner is nearly 97 years old, whoa!
I’ve seen 10 of the 34 films on the chart, my favorites are – The Jerk, The Man With Two Brains, Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid, The Russkies are Coming!, It’s a Mad World and Ocean’s 11.
I don’t think I’ve watched any of the Oh God series, not sure why I avoided them.
Looking at the trivia, I didn’t know the old lady in the diner scene in When Sally Met Harry was Rob Reiner’s mother. Nice.
Trivia #10 Did Reiner direct 3 or was it 4 Steve Martin films? 😉
Good stuff. Vote Up!
Hey Steve. Thanks for the visit. Tally counts: Me 18, Flora 11 and you 10. So 3 of the 4 Steve Martin movies made your favorties list….but no love for All Of Me? I love Dean Men Don’t Wear Plaid….probably the one Carl Reiner movie I re-watch the most. The first Oh God! is a pretty funny movie….with George Burns having a blast. The second one, I saw in theaters..was ok at best….and the third one was simply a money grab. Glad you liked our When Harry Met Sally trivia….Rob Reiner gave his mom one helluva a line. And finally….Carl Reiner directed Steve Martin 4 times. Good feedback.
