Since this is the most recently created page of an actor in Mice and Men (1939) I am writing about it here even though you have a Burgess Meredith page.
I watched Of Mice and Men last night. I have not seen the remake. The movie was well acted by everyone involved and was well paced. I was wondering ahead of time how the film would handle Lenny’s mental disability as I often have problems watching movies where characters have disabilities as they are often exploited in the classic era of Hollywood. However, I need not have worried. Lon Chaney Jr. played him well and I was not offended.
What struck me the most about the film was how much violence there is the movie. We don’t see so much of it as we would now as the camera often cuts to Chaney’s face as it happens, but there is a lot of it.
I would recommend this film to anyone interested in the actors, John Steinbeck, classic film, and films based upon books in general.
Hey Flora. Thanks for the mini-review on Of Mice and Men. Good to hear Chaney Jr. did justice to the role and the mental disability part of the role. That is strange that so much violence was in the movie. I will have to check this one out. 1939 is considered the best year in movie history. Of Mice and Men was one of the movies to earn a Best Picture Oscar nomination. Good stuff.
Not too aware of him, but I did see his A Star Is Born. After seeing Bradley Cooper’s A Star Is Born I saw the Bickford and the Streisand versions. Interesting information about his incident with the lion.
Hey Taylor….thanks for stopping by. So Bradley Cooper’s A Star Is Born got you to check out the other Star Is Born movies….interesting. Which did you like the best? Thanks for the kind words. Good stuff.
