chase 33333Want to know the best Chevy Chase movies?  How about the worst Chevy Chase movies?  Curious about Chevy Chase box office grosses or which Chevy Chase movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which Chevy Chase movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences and which got the worst reviews? Well you have come to the right place….because we have all of that information.

Chevy Chase (1943-) is an American actor, comedian and writer.  Chase first gained famed in 1975 as a member of the very first Saturday Night Live cast. His IMDb page shows 77 credits from 1968-2016. This page ranks 34 Chevy Chase movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Television shows, cameos, shorts, video games and movies not released in North America were not included in the rankings.

Drivel part of the page:  I might have been the biggest Chevy Chase fan out there in the late 1970s and 1980s.  From 1978 to the early 1990s, Chase was one of the most popular comedians working in movies.  Not only did I watch all of his movies….but I went to the theater to see them.  Of his first 16 movies I saw 13 of them in theaters.   So the other day I saw an article on Chase….I thought why do I not have a page on him yet…..well now I do!

  1. I agree he had a good run there for awhile but overall he was a pretty limited actor. Still a fun page to look at. I would say Funny Farm was his best movie.

  2. I remember watching his movies all the time when I was younger seems they were on tv all the time. OMG the Dude is in his 70s.

    1. Hey Cavaliers win it all. First congrats on the big Cleveland win. His run was pretty impressive…..but compared to other stars…his run was pretty short. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment.

    1. Hey Barry….he was one of the funniest people working from 1975 to 1988…..but he actually found fame when he was in his 30s….which is why it is surprising that he is in his 70s.

  3. I was a Chevy Chase fan too back in the 80s. I didn’t see any of his films in the cinema though. I rarely watched comedies at the cinema for some strange reason unless I was invited to go by friends.

I’ve seen 19 of the 32 films you’ve listed. One of his best loved comedies – The Three Amigos – is missing from the list. [Bruce gasps]

Other favorites include the 1, 2 and 3 from the Vacation series, Fletch (did not like Fletch 2 much) and Spies Like Us.

Follow that Bird no.2 on the critics chart? Never heard of that one. Was it that good?

Chase was also in Hero (1992) a rare straight role as Geena Davis boss if I remember right, she had a small role in Fletch before becoming a star.

A shame his career fizzled out by the late 90s, he was a likable actor and had plenty of screen charisma.

    Good work Bruce. Voted Up!

    1. Holy crap Batman…how in the world did I forget the Three Amigos? Well my excuse is it’s official title according to IMDb.com is !Three Amigos!….when I got to that movie I could not find it in my database…and told myself I needed to go to my Steve Martin part of the database to find the movie….and until your comment I did not think about the movie again. So thanks for the headsup Steve.

Tally count….Steve 19….Flora with a surprising 10….and me….26…with going to the theater for 14 different Chevy Chase movies. Fletch Lives was a disappointment….and the beginning of the Chase slide…..his role in Hero was uncredited for some reason….but heck his role was bigger than his role in Follow That Bird….damn…damn….I need to go back and add in Hero….which puts my tally count up to 28. Not thinking this page was an “ultimate ranking” page after all…..lol.

Follow That Bird was a Sesame Street movie…..critics love their movies…that is one of the ones that I have not seen. My favorites would be Vacation 1 & 3 (with Christmas Vacation being my favorite), Spies Like Us (though not nearly as funny as it was 30 years ago), Funny Farm and Seems Like It Old Times….with Foul Play pushing to get into my Top 5.

Fizzled is correct…..he was like a comet…..shined very bright…but gone before you knew it. As always thanks for the visit and the comment. Gotta go and fix this page.

      1. If you add Hero and Amigos to the charts that takes my tally up to 21. Dan Aykroyd on the request list? John Belushi might be an interesting subject for a future page and it won’t take long either. Steve Guttenberg? Rick Mo[That’s enough Steve]

        1. New tally counts…me 28, Steve 21 and Flora 10 (though her total might go up too). Danny A. is a good suggestion….Belushi would be a quick one to do…maybe he did 8 movies….Goin’South, Animal House, 1941, Blues Brothers, Neighbors and Continental Divide come to my mind right away. Thanks again for the headsup on the missing movies.

  4. Hi, Bruce!

What a perfect time for a page about a very funny man. 🙂

I did not realize that you had not done a page on Chase either.

I have not seen as many Chase films on the big screen.

    What fun!

The highest ranking film I have seen is number 1: National Lampoon’s Vacation.

The highest ranking film I have not seen is number 7: Spies Like Us.

The lowest ranking film I have seen is 26: Cops and Robbersons.

And yet, I have only seen 10 of Chase’s films. That means I’ve seen his best films.

My favourite films are actually the first four films with Foul Play first instead in order.

    1. Hey Flora.
      1. Thanks for the visit and the comment.
      2. After Steve’s comment…the page has gone from 32 to 34 movies…as Hero and The Three Amigos were added to the page.
      3. Tally count…Bruce 28, Steve 19 (though I bet he saw the 2 he noticed I missed) and you 10 (which is about 8 more than I would have guessed.
      4. I was working on this page on Sunday….when the news of Anton Yelchin’s passing moved this page to the back burner.
      5. If I had started these pages in the 1980s….a Chevy Chase page would have been one of the first ones….instead….it was page number 406.
      6. I would have guessed Foul Play would have been your favorite….lots of Hitchcock themes in that one….plus it’s climax is a The Man Who Knew Too Much copy.
      7. Cops and Robbersons had some good moments….at least from Jack Palance.
      8. Classic page coming next….not sure yet who it might be though.
