  1. Hi

Plummer is a great actor, he’s been around so long that you forget that he’s done other films other than The Sound of Music. Although it’s ironic that the film he hates most is the film he’ll be most remembered for.
One movie worth watching is The Last Station. Him and Helen Mirren are fantastic.

    1. Hey Chris….yep no matter how much he does not like The Sound of Music….he will be forever associated with it….I imagine he is like Leonard Nimoy….Nimoy first wrote an autobiography called I Am Not Spock…..but then years later he wrote I Am Spock. Hopefully his negative thoughts on The Sound of Music was years ago when he wrote I Am Not Georg von Trapp but now that he is older and wiser he is writing I Am Georg von Trapp.

I agree with you about The Last Station…great performances by Plummer and Mirren. And the movie that finally broke his Oscar nomination drought. Thanks for stopping by.

  2. HI BRUCE

1 I think that I mentioned before somewhere on this site but it does no harm to repeat that Christopher Plummer is one of my all time favourite character actors; I loved him in the rare leading role as as Sherlock Holmes in Murder by Decree with Mason as his Watson; thought him wonderful with Pacino/Crowe in The Insider which I’m pleased to see that you have made joint second with Sir Maurice and Sir Sean for audience/critic above ; and was touched by the performances of Shirley MacLaine and him in Elsa and Fred which I think you’ve also seen.

2 Accordingly I’m delighted that you’ve given a new page to this wonderful supporting actor who may not be a top box office star but who in my opinion lends class to everything he touches. Top marks for again demonstrating how broad your appreciation is.BOB

    1. Hey Bob….very recently I watched his Remember….and was so impressed with his role….I felt he really needed an UMR page. I enjoyed him in The Insider too…..that should have been an Oscar nominated performance. True I enjoyed his latest movie with Shirley MacLaine…as well as their previous movie Closing The Ring. Sadly Closing The Ring never made it to heaters so it is it included.

Thanks for the kind words about our variety of UMR selections….his page is off to a somewhat surprising start. Thanks for the visit and the comment.

  3. Did not even realize he made any other movies besides The Sound of Music. I am of course joking. We do watch The Sound of Music every year. I have heard that he did not like The Sound of Music. Luckily he is in the minority. I was glad when he won his Oscar. Glad to see he is still “going strong”.

    1. Hey Helakoski. Thanks for the visit and the comment…..you are not the only one that watches The Sound of Music every year. WoC is a huge fan too. Over the years I have bought a version of that movie many many times. The latest buy was the 50th anniversary BluRay …..I am surprised they have not made that a 3D movie….lol.

  4. Good actor, I’ve always liked Christopher Plummer. I used to think he was British but later discovered he was Canadian.

I’ve seen 31 of the 65 films listed here, favorites include – Star Trek VI, Wolf, Murder by Decree, The Man Who Would Be King, Battle of Britain (my favorite war film btw), Dreamscape, Fall of the Roman Empire, Waterloo, Return of the Pink Panther and 12 Monkeys.

I still haven’t seen Malcolm X or The Last Station.

The oldest person to win an Oscar? Wow!

I can see Plummer as Gandalf, he would have done well in the role but I’m so glad Ian McKellen took up the wizard’s staff “You.. cannot… pass!” one of the great movie characters of the past 20 years IMO.

Looking at the charts, Sound of Music tops the UMR chart, I think it was the first film to topple Gone With the Wind as king of the worldwide box office charts. Pixar’s Up no.1 on the critics chart, a fun family film, Man Who Would Be King is no.2 starring James Bond and Harry Palmer.

Another expert movie page Bruce and a Vote Up from me.

    1. Hey Steve….thanks for checking out my Christopher Plummer page. 31 Plummer movies watched is good….but it is slightly behind my total of 35.

I like your favorite Plummer movies as well….though I have not seen Waterloo or Fall of the Roman Empire. One of my favorite Plummer movies is The Silent Partner….which is a thriller about a botched bank robbery.

Yep….he made a mistake when he passed on Lord of the Rings….he must not have had any grandkids running around when he got the offer…..because if they had been around no way they would have let him pass on the role.

His role in The Man Who Would Be King is small but memorable….I love seeing Caine, Connery and Plummer together. Plummer and Caine have known each other for years…..they even did a BBC version of Hamlet together….and filmed in a real castle.

As always…greatly appreciate you sharing your movie knowledge.

  5. Hey Bruce,

I have had to watch Mr Plummer in The Sound of Music once every year since meeting my wife in ’96.

You can’t imagine how I hope my wife gets tired of this movie however she is Belgian…so I doubt I will get any relief soon.

My favorite movies have to be The Man Who would be King….in fact the whole cast, Dragon Tatoo and A Beautifull Mind. Kudo’s for the page…Imagine the first Klingon page ever!

BTW thepossibly interesting facts page on Muni is great but possibly not what you wanted here.

    Marcel

    1. Hey Marcel….I feel your pain….for me….it seems to be a once every two years event here…..which means I will be watching The Sound of Music in the next 8 weeks…..as it is my wife’s favorite holiday movie.

Yep….the first Klingon to have his own page….I will have to make sure to keep it away from the Leonard Nimoy page….lol.

The Man Who Would Be King, The Silent Partner and Twelve Monkeys would be my Top 3. Recently I saw and really enjoyed Remember…..that is a good who done it with a great Plummer performance….highly recommend it. He had to really buckle down in that one…as he had to play a 89 year old….and at 86 I think that really tested him.

Thanks for the heads up on my Paul Muni error. Thanks for the visit and the comment.
