Drivel part:  So this weekend we (the family) were supposed to be in Philadelphia.  We went to bed Thursday night packed and ready to go first thing Friday morning.  All our carefully made plans went right out the window at 3:30 A.M….when our youngest child (Emily) showed up in our room saying she did not feel well and was burning up with fever.  Well…..18 hours later she is feeling better and our Philly trip is canceled. So with some unexpected free time, we figured we would finish and publish this Claude Rains page on Friday versus our plan of publishing on Monday.

  1. Wow ! “Invisible man” ! I’ve looked for it ‘s box office for many years. Where did you find it ? Can you tell me the rental for this movie ? And, of course, another a great job Bruce.

    1. Hey laurent. I have the box office rental number at $976,339…for a gross of $2.78 million. I had to reverse engineer to get the box office number. I had many pieces of the puzzle….so using the knonw budget, how much profit it made and a ceiling. This was the number I came up with. One of the main sources of information was Golden Horrors: An Illustrated Critical Filmography, 1931-1939 by Bryan Senn. I feel good about the rental number…..but in the end….like all box office information for this time frame….it is just an estimation. Thanks for stopping by.

      1. Thank you, Bruce. I bought the book on Amazon. I love the horror movies of the 30’s. About that, have you got the box office for the Wolf Man (1941), please ?

        1. I have The Wolf Man at $736,000 in rentals and $71.50 million in adjusted box office. Numerous sources say that Pearl Harbor hurt the box office results of this movie. Hope that helps….and hope you enjoyed the book by Bryan Senn. It is a great read.

          1. A big thank you, Bruce. the book will be delivered wednesday. I can recommend this book : Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff, the expanded stroy of haunting collaboration by Gregory William Mank. Very interesting.

    1. Hey L1NDA CARES…He has a great resume filled with many classic movies….glad you liked the page….thanks for stopping by.

  2. Hi, Bruce!

    Glad your daughter is better.

I adore Claude Rains. I want to see every movie he ever made.

The highest ranking movie I have seen is number 1: Casablanca

The highest raking movie I have not seen is number 12: They Won’t Forget

The lowest ranking movie I have seen is Twilight of Honor.

I have seen 28 movies. Most of these are in the top half of the table.

The most recently seen film for the first time was The white Tower with Glen Ford.

There are several films that I think I will be able to see through TCM that I have not seen.

Here are my favourites in no particular order except the first:

    Here Comes Mr. Jordan
    The Adventures of Robin Hood
    Lawrence of Arabia
    Passage to Marsaille
    Phantom of the Opera
    The Sea Hawk
    Casablanca
    Deception
    The Wolf Man
    The Unsuspected
    Mr. Skeffington
    They Made Me A Criminal

12 instead of 10. Oh, well.

    1. I left out Notorious!

See what happens when you list things off the top of your head?

That would be 13 a very unlucky number, so a 14th:

      Now Voyager

      1. Hey Flora….fixed your comment…and deleted the other one. I have seen and enjoyed 9 of your favorite 14 Rains movies. They Made Me A Criminal is the one I want to see the most.

    2. Hey Flora….about 4 hours after publishing this page….we were in the emergency room with Emily (her fever came back even worse than the night before)….a scary that ended well….but boy are we tired today.

So you are at 28….I bet Steve will be close to that total….I am at 11….and I got off to a great start as I have all of Top 11 with the exception of # 8 Four Daughers. After that I have only seen #28 The Wolf Man. As for the first one you have not seen…They Won’t Forget….I read in numerous places that this is one of his better roles. And considering how awesome he is in some of the Rains movies I have seen…that is pretty good review.

I have seen and enjoyed 7 of your top 12. I am thinking it is possible that his Top 5 UMR Scored Movies might be the Best Top 5 of all the people I have done a page on….Casablanca, Mr. Smith Goes To Washington, Lawrence Of Arabia, Notorious and Robin Hood….that is a stout Top 5.

As always….thanks for stopping by and commenting. I will be seeing if Steve can get the top spot here.
