  1. I have always thought of Cloris Leachman as sort of an older version of Jenny McCarthy, Johnny Knoxville or Pauly Shore. That’s someone to me who will sink to any low so that you will notice them. Cloris is # 196 on the 2020 Oracle of Bacon Top 1000 Center of the Hollywood Universe list. These are the actors on the current list she has appeared with.

    1. Hey Dan
      1. Thanks for taking the time and putting these lists together.
      2. Interesting breakdown on her. I will be thinking about those thoughts the next time I see her in a movie.
      3. Needless to say, I was very surprised she cracked the Top 1000….heck even crossing the Top 200….I did not see that coming at all.
      4. Paul Newman is in a tie for most frequent Oracle co-star. Austin Pendleton is another tied for the top spot…seems I keep running into him….either in books or movies that I watched.
      5. And then I see Madeline Kahn and her 5 movies…but Paul and Austin should be proud too….lol.
      6. 35 Oscar winning co-stars is pretty good…with a new yearly range.
      Good stuff as always.

  2. On top of her hefty film career detailed in the charts above Cloris has been highly prolific as well in 42 television movies and 91 diverse other TV productions; and she has performed in 23 stage presentations.

Her television appearances include two episodes of The Virginian in the 1960s and later participations in the Mary Tyler Moore Show. Her theatrical credits include classics like Young Frankenstein; South Pacific; Come Back Little Sheba; Showboat and The Crucible.

Cloris has a current net worth of $10 million and IMDB credits he with 25 acting awards and 40 nominations. My favorite movie performances by her are in Kiss Me Deadly; WUSA; Last Picture Show; Butch Cassidy; and The Rack. At the age of 94 she is still going strong and has in the pipeline 4 movies at post-production stage and is currently filming Croods 2 in which she again has a voice role.

The Dick Van Dyke episode mentioned in the trivia section above “On the Beach” was enjoyable for me but the plot was in effect stolen from Hitchcock’s classic 1954 Rear Window with an invalided Dr Sloan [Dick] as the Jimmy Stewart character witnessing a murder when he is convalescing; and Cloris as his comical minder is sort of an amalgamation of Grace Kelly and Thelma Ritter.

In On the Beach Dick’s actor son in both real life and the episode [Barry Van Dyke] is the detective character played by Wendell Cory in the 1954 movie. The Raymond Burr murderous character from the movie is a modern youngish loutish ‘smart ass’ in the Van Dyke episode. [“Dr Mark Sloan witnesses what he believes to be a murder while spying on his neighbours.” – IMDB production notes]

    1. Hey Bob….thanks for the thoughts on Cloris Leachman. She helps cross out two different lists I am working on…the Joel list and Best Supporting Actress Oscar winners. Thanks for the information on her television work and her net worth. Good breakdown of her work with Dick Van Dyke. That sounds like a pretty interesting show. WoC just watched Rear Window for the first time only a few weekends ago. I agree with your comment about her being 94 and still going strong. I could not believe how many projects she has in post production right now. As always good stuff.

  3. I have seen 8 Cloris Leachman movies, 5 of them in the top top 10 and all of them in the top 20.

The HIGHEST rated movie I have seen is The Last Picture Show.

The highest rated movie I have NOT seen is The Croods.

The LOWEST rated movie I have seen is Dillinger.

    Favourite Cloris Leachman Movies:

    The Last Picture Show
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
    Young Frankenstein
    High Anxiety
    Kiss Me Deadly

Other Cloris Leachman Movies I Have Seen:

    The Muppet Movie
    The Chapman Report
    Dillinger

I loved The Mary Tyler Moore Show. I was never really a fan of Leachman’s spinoff Phyllis.

    1. Hey Flora. Thanks for the feedback on our Cloris Leachman page. Tally count…33 for me and 8 for you. All of your 8 are pre-1980. I have seen 9 of her pre-1980s movies. The Croods was pretty entertaining…though Leachman’s character is pretty forgettable….but I am glad she is returning for the sequel. I have seen all 5 of your favorites…..with Butch and Sundance being one of my all-time favorite movies. As for her tv show…I guess I had forgotten she had a spinoff show from the Mary Tyler Moore Show…I remember Rhoda but not Phyliss. Good stuff as always.

  4. Another great UMR page by the wizard.
    Good job.
Again don’t worry you will pass, because this is what you want to do.
I am sure every person writing to you here at UMR have the utmost faith in you.
We need people to teach our students.

    Thx
    Mike

    1. Thank you Mike. I appreciate the kind words. All the stress of the last week is now gone….I am back to being a calm cool and collective person…lol. I just added one of your 1958 suggestions to the database…Dunkirk…will be in the database as soon as the update is completed. I will research the others very soon. Dunkirk did terrible in the USA, but much better overseas. Good stuff as always.

  5. Ok….I said in another comment that there would not be a new page until Friday (due to me having to study)….but I got tired of studying….so I thought….I could knock out a quick page. I looked through my Rating the Movie Stars by the legendary Joel Hirshhorn, and saw the Cloris Leachman section in the book. I counted the movies in her resume up until that point (1983)…and the answer was 23…and most of those 23 were already in the data. So I picked her to write about tonight..thinking that 23 was probably the majority of her movies. And just like how the rest of this week has gone…..I was wrong again! Cloris Leachman has been one of the busiest actresses working, even in her 90s. She has almost 300 IMDb credits….and in the end this is a 70 movie page…..of in which I have seen 33.
