The Oracle of Bacon is connecting actors to Kevn Bacon through3 steps or less. But that site found over 500 people more connectible in History. They developed the sight around 2000 and they have a list of the most connected actors in history. For instance William S. Maybe Mr. Cogerson or someone else has more. 1922 Travelin' On $44,950.00 1923 Hollywood $302,073.00 1923 Wild Bill Hickok $110,238.00 1924 Singer Jim McKee $70,628.00 1925 Tumbleweeds $103,000.00 1928 Show People CAMEO ONLY $1,100,000.00 Thx
  • Shaun on RequestsMaybe there's not enough data left these days, but just in case...! Coming soon is the 160th birthday of one of the top stars from the early box office, William S Hart. It would be awesome to see him listed among the other luminaries here. Thanks as always for all that you do!
  • Mike HoF 2020 on ForumsHi Dan, Hope all is well. I am inquiring about your list you provide. Can you explain what all the names, numbers, etc mean and what it is for? I am not quite clear, please advise. Thx
  • Dan on ForumsActually 20 of the top 100 have made the Oracle 1000 at one time or another.
  • Dan on ForumsAnn Doran used to be on the Oracle of Bacon's top 1000 most connectible list. Most of those actors who appeared with tons of actors there, maybe 5 or 6 of them, never made the top 1000. They're all squished into the 1930's - 1950's.
  • Mike HoF 2020 on ForumsNo worries. Was very interesting. My database has only 2 actors in 95 % of of the entire list not the others actors. I like reviewing some of the others on occasion. I don't have the time anymore like when I first started. The B.O. data days took me almost 5 years to research and load. I had just completed Ann Doran she was in 192 movies. W can keep doing some on occasion.

  • Mike HoF 2020 on ForumsI have only a few at this time. Sounds like you have quite a large database established. Mine is large, but lacks most of the supporting cast at this time. Just the main female or male lead actors. My process still in work. My database has mostly B.O. data. A couple of other characters are below. Bob Steele 153 movies. Glenn Strange 241 movies.
  • Dan on ForumsLane Chandler has 274 films in my database. The serial The Valley of Vanishing Men has besides Lane, 54 other actors in my database. Union Pacific is the film with the most actors in my database, 53. Around the World in 80 days has 49.
  • Mike HoF 2020 on ForumsHi Dan, My work is still in process at this time. I have several candidates in work. But there is one that stands out currently. A actor named Lane Chandler who has been in 292 movies in my B.O. database. I guess you could call him a modern day Samuel Jackson or Eric Roberts. He starred in movies with almost all the great stars from the 20's to the 1960s. They were mostly minor role and uncredited. Once in awhile he would get lines. He appeared in over 90 movies that are on Mr. Cogerson movie list. Several Blockbusters. Look...

Note: Some B.O. data is small because in the top 20 to 25 cities domestic it was taken from 1 or 2 theaters only. Just for fun. 1929 Big News $211,800.00 1929 Smiling Irish Eyes...

  • Cogerson on Tom Hanks MoviesThis is our 2nd oldest page....it has been updated over 50 times over the years. As he approaches 70, his movies seem to debut on this chart lower and lower. On this update, Here comes in at #55. Not thinking it is going to crack the Top 50. To date, I have seen 29 of his movies in theaters, but only one since 2016....and that would be 2022's A Man Called Otto. That is easily the second most movies I have seen in theaters by a movie star. He only trails Mr. Bruce Willis.

  • Chris Dye on AFI Top 50 Screen LegendsI agree with the vast majority of this list. I’m 56 years old but LOVE the classics and am very familiar with actors from the “Golden Age of Hollywood”. So this isn’t coming from “recency bias”, but Daniel Day Lewis HAS to be on this Top 20 List! Almost ALL of his roles have been spectacular. Although not prolific (not a criteria here), he is clearly one of the greatest actors of his generation! Personally, I would have to bounce either Cagney or more likely Lancaster, which admittedly would not be easy, but necessary. Thoughts?

  • Cogerson on Charles Walters MoviesHey Flora. 20 is pretty good....or 80% of his movies. He apparently only directed one scene in Gigi...as he was filling in for V. Minnelli who was overseas when they re-shot his scene. I have only seen 8 of his movies. The one I have seen the most is Walk Don't Run....which was Walters and Cary Grant's last theatrical movies. Of the ones we have both seen....I would probably put High Society and Easter Parade as my favorites. Good stuff as always.
  • Flora Breen Robison on Charles Walters MoviesI have seen 20 Charles Walters movies. The HIGHEST Rated movie I have seen is Gigi. The highest rated movie I have NOT seen is Good News. The LOWEST rated movie I have seen is Two Loves. Favourite Charles Walters Movies: Gigi Easter Parade High Society The Unsinkable Molly Brown Ziegfeld Follies Please Don't Eat the Daisies The Barkleys of Broadway Summer Stock Lili The Tender Trap Don't Go Near the Water Cimarron Billy Rose's Jumbo The Belle of New York
  • Cogerson on August 21st – UMR Book 5 99% DoneHey Dan. The first version will be in paperback. About a week later the hard cover will be available. These books always look horrible as downloads. Because of the tables being so big. So not even going down that road. Currently doing the proofreading and fact checking....which is a huge task for all the information in the book. Things we have caught already but screwed up in the first place. I made Benicio Del Toro 71 years old and Joanne Woodward 41 years old. I am sure Ms. Woodward would be glad to make that change.

  1. I was in Hilton Head last month and Savannah also. I did not know Forrest Gump’s bench was there. My wife had to go to Savanah to eat at Paula Dean’s restaurant and I got a T-shirt for the Savanah Bananas college baseball team but I digress from the subject. Bessie Love who she appeared with made her first film in 1915. She starred in the best picture of 1929 The Broadway Melody.

I’ve recounted the first nude scene I saw was in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie which was also the first Maggie Smith film I saw.

    1. Dan, great job. now I have to go to savannah. 47 huge number Oscar winners. Hail Britannia! led by alec Guinness, with lots of caine, niven, emma Thompson, redgrave, Ustinov, Olivier, Mirren dench, geilgud, rex Harrison, john mills.
I hope this gets moved to Maggie smith page.

    2. Dan – you accidentally put this Oracle of the Bacon discussion on Forums page instead of Maggie Smith Movies.

  2. HI The BIG TWO

Have tried several times to post a response to Steve’s new Jodie Foster video but I don’t know if (1) Bruce’s probably all-time greatest fans The Spammers are at work again or (2) another of my jokes has backfired and the post is being rejected because some touchy guy in England or Shangri- La has taken offence at some innocent quip of mine.

Anyway I have kept a copy of the post until hopefully the coast is clear to send it. Of course as you both know ANY post of mine is worth making millions of copies of and on the Top UMI Contributors table I should maybe get credit for all 5 times I have tried to submit the Foster post

    1. Somehow that comment ended up in the Spam folder…I have no idea why. A quick check does not see any other “non-spam” comments there….so I have no idea why it pulled your comment there. But it is now approved…sorry about that.

  3. Sorry I have not been able to comment back on all the comments. My regular school job ended last Thursday….at least for 11 weeks…but started a summer job today…..that one is actually longer hours. Thus finding the one to two hours a day to do comments has taken a backseat to work. It is in the same club as watching movies, promoting the new pages and hanging out with kids. Just not enough hours in the day. Already only sleep about 4 hours a day. But I will make a better effort in the future. Starting with Agnes Moorehead.

    1. Only 4 hours a day? Ouch. I know how that is, I am a fellow insomniac myself. Most things do take a backseat to work. Take care of yourself. I understand you can’t always answer.

      1. Normally the summer is a time to rest…but this year WoC and I have a change to invest in something that will really benefit us in the long run…so we are doing extra jobs this summer. Just got home from work….and after only a few comments starting to get slllleeeeepppppyyyyy already. Feel like I am burning the candles at both ends and in the middle…..lol.

  4. HI STEVE I tend to keep at least for a while lists of most posts that I submit to this site and at times I even retain copies of posts that I send but which receive no response. I realise that whilst a lot of my comments might hold little attraction for many viewers [who naturally have their own priorities/interests] there should be on the law of averages one would think at least a some that draw attention and indeed a reasonable number do.

Of course my avid admirers like you may well conclude that I have said EVERYTHING on a subject that needs to be said and therefore requires no rejoinder!! Also a nil response to a post does not necessarily indicate no interest in it as other viewers could well like it but not have either the time and/or the inclination to reply to it, which is their entitlement.

Also I have to concede that whilst I have a lot more time on my hands than probably many other viewers I TOO still cannot always on occasions find the time to respond to as many posts as I would like.

However as I usually expend a lot of time researching material for, and composing, my posts I keep the records that I have mentioned above so that if a pattern of nil responses emerges to subjects that I raise I can consider refraining from future comments on those issues. For example there seems to be a pattern in the normal nil responses to comments on birthday tributes so perhaps no response is called for to those tributes – see for instance my Sept 5 2017 post on Michael Keaton’s page

I should add that my records indicate that NEVER have you failed to respond to one of my many initial posts about your videos and often I get “bonus” supplementary responses from you as well- your extra comment about Chuck a short time ago are but one example [though I don’t think Ladd would have had much trouble bossing Arnie about and giving him a good hiding if he didn’t do what he was told!]. . Given how busy I know you are your frequency of response constitutes an amazing record and your courtesy and diligence are appreciated.

Therefore in the hope of assisting you to economize on your time I propose to from time to time convey lists of my posts which have received a nil response so that you will be able to consider whether it is worth expending your own efforts on the subjects concerned and for openers a list of some of the “neglected” posts from me in recent weeks is in a separate submission today.

    1. EXAMPLES OF RECENT BOB ROY POSTS RECEIVING A NIL RESPONSE

1 5 JUNE – Drawing attention on Fred MacMurray’s page to possible minute “overkill”. Admittedly the, as I personally perceived it, “flaw” is inconsequential and likely to irritate only pedantic “purist” movie buffs like me but many weeks before that, again trying to be helpful, I drew attention to the fact that Gabby Hayes was listed as the star of Jump into Hell in the 1955 annual review whereas to the best of my knowledge Gabby was not in that flick and the lead actor was a then Warner Bros “pretty boy” the late Jacques Sernas of the 1956 Helen of Troy mayfly fame. Hayes remains listed as the star.

2 6 June. An appreciation by me of the career of Harvey Keitel on his page.

3 8 June. Comments on the 1970 annual review

4 13 Jun Comments on the 1971 annual review.

[I place great value in the reviews generally so have hitherto usually felt inclined to comment.]

5 14 June. In a post welcoming additions to the Brando page I also drew attention to the duplicate listing of a movie. Again, although I would dearly love for Mr Brando to retain the extra $140 million that the duplication brings him I was trying to be of assistance in pointing out the error as I know what an impossible task it is for the authors to avoid or immediately spot every error among such a massive and amazing wealth of detail as that which is always meticulously provided on this site.

Concluding on a more positive note though I thought that a nice touch was the special publication today of the run of contributors’ Father’s Day posts.

      1. Bob-

Even though I don’t always respond to your posts, I always read them. Many of your posts are headed specifically “Bob to Steve” and I enjoy reading your conversations about the latest Steve video identity.

I know that it is frustrating when your post is not answered. I find that is more likely to happen to me when the page is not a new UMR subject. Therefore, I tend to post only on new pages. However, I do remember that when Agnes Moorhead – a favourite of mine – got a new page, I answered promptly as I usually do, and ultimately nobody’s were answered on that one.

        1. HI FLORA Thanks for your response and it’s good to know you’re reading my posts because I know you have a lot of irons in the fire.

Indeed it always cheers me immensely when I see one of YOUR posts flagged up and our mutual respect of each other’s offerings reminds me of an old pop song by songstress Teresa Brewer

          We belong to a mutual
          Admiration society,
          My [Flora] and me
          We belong to a mutual
          Admiration society

          I think she’s endearing
          And she’s smart
          She thinks that
          I play my part
          In appreciating art.

          The only quarrelling
          That we do is
          Just who admires
          Who more than who

          So it is that we
          My [Flora] and me
          We belong to a mutual
          Admiration Society.

        2. Hi Flora, I saw your post and checked out Agnes Moorehead page, you’re right, no response from the chief on our comments. Ironically the only person he replied to on that page has been dead for years. [Bob winces] 🙂

          1. Life’s night begins if he never comes back to us
There would be doubt, hesitation and pain,
And never glad confident morning again!

            ROBERT BROWNING The Lost Leader.

    2. Bob, I know how you feel concerning comments that don’t get a response from anyone, it happens to me from time to time and even quite recently too I’ve had maybe three comments to new UMR topics left unread.

There’s no law saying that all comments should get a response but it does dampen enthusiasm next time you’re about to write something and you’re wondering if it’s worth the bother.

It’s worse when the only comment that hasn’t had a reply on a new UMR page is your own, that’s happened to me quite a few times, my comment is surrounded by other people’s comments but mine is the only one that didn’t get a reply. [sniff] 😉

Bob, I’m pretty sure your posts get read even when they don’t get a response. Sometimes your readers feel there’s nothing more to add, and maybe a smiley would suffice.

      1. HI STEVE

Thanks for the comforting words . Suddenly the wilderness doesn’t seem so empty anymore!

Perhaps when we feel that our posts are being unduly neglected you and I should deploy on the site the kind of plea that British Post Office once regularly put out to the general public in an effort to drum up business “Someone, somewhere is waiting for a letter from you.”

I see that in fact the Work Horse has now removed the Brando duplication of One Eyed Jacks from Marlon’s page. [Damn you and your protests about aliases/nicknames Steve– I miss saying Mr Mumbles!]. So maybe my post of 14 June wasn’t wasted after all
        .
However there’s a sting in the tail. I said that the duplication was giving Brando an extra $140 million whereas the figure was nearer $150 million , which means Marlon has now lost the higher rather than the lower figure with the duplication removal. So instead of for once playing the Good Guy why couldn’t I have just kept my big mouth shut. That Work Horse guy always seems to have the last laugh over me.

Anyway look forward to your next video. They always cheer me up even when all on this site have deserted me! “Everyone loved him! Everyone disappeared!” [Jerry Maguire]

  5. HI GUYS!
Steve has expressed concern from time to time that the aliases that I have occasionally used could confuse some folks who try to follow my posts. I think I noticed yesterday that somebody was using aliases that might be deemed a bit risqué for this site.

So let me assure you that I am not the person(s) concerned. It is true that despite advancing years I might still retain a certain appeal. I mean look at the young co-stars who still seem to admire Fading Ford, Ancient Arnie and Wilting Willis in their movies so as legendary Brit actor/vaudeville entertainer the Great George Formby used to sing as he strummed his ukulele

“If women like that like men like that,
    Why can’t women like me?”

However when using aliases on occasions when I wish to attract the attention of either/both of you there would be no fun in it if neither of you DID KNOW it was I who was behind the alias and it is always only on such occasions that I do use an alias. I mean it would be a very boring week for me if The Work Horse for example was completely unaware that YOURS TRULY was the one who was trying to wind him up.

Also it’s not my style to do genuine “incognito” so I would not wish to adopt a Joel and Hyde persona on this site and I certainly hope that none of the aliases that I have used have been offensive to anyone.

    1. Hey Bob…..you know at first I thought those 3 spam comments had to be you….lol. It was the first spam to work it’s way passed on security guards in awhile…..hopefully this was not the scout team for more spam coming. Thanks for the disclaimer.

      1. HI BRUCE
Thanks for the explanation. It never actually occurred to me that the “Alias” was a spam and I was concerned you might think it was I who was spoofing around as usual.

I know that it was the kind of terminology that you frown upon on your site so It did occur to me that you might remove it so I wasn’t surprised when I checked this morning and saw it gone.

Pity Steve missed the 3 spams. That’ll teach him not to check this site as often as I do!

    2. Bob, noooo! I missed the risque aliases! [weeps] Bruce must have removed them.

I think if you stick to Bob Roy everyone will know it’s you. Bob Cox uses both his names so there’s no confusion there.

‘In the Shadows’ remains a mystery poster, could it be John? Or a reincarnated Joel?

      1. Or Charley Bill reaching from beyond his last grave trying to convince YOU of the validy of reincarnation beliefs!
