The Oracle of Bacon is connecting actors to Kevn Bacon through3 steps or less. But that site found over 500 people more connectible in History. They developed the sight around 2000 and they have a list of the most connected actors in history. For instance William S. Maybe Mr. Cogerson or someone else has more. 1922 Travelin' On $44,950.00 1923 Hollywood $302,073.00 1923 Wild Bill Hickok $110,238.00 1924 Singer Jim McKee $70,628.00 1925 Tumbleweeds $103,000.00 1928 Show People CAMEO ONLY $1,100,000.00 Thx
  • Shaun on RequestsMaybe there's not enough data left these days, but just in case...! Coming soon is the 160th birthday of one of the top stars from the early box office, William S Hart. It would be awesome to see him listed among the other luminaries here. Thanks as always for all that you do!
  • Mike HoF 2020 on ForumsHi Dan, Hope all is well. I am inquiring about your list you provide. Can you explain what all the names, numbers, etc mean and what it is for? I am not quite clear, please advise. Thx
  • Dan on ForumsActually 20 of the top 100 have made the Oracle 1000 at one time or another.
  • Dan on ForumsAnn Doran used to be on the Oracle of Bacon's top 1000 most connectible list. Most of those actors who appeared with tons of actors there, maybe 5 or 6 of them, never made the top 1000. They're all squished into the 1930's - 1950's.
  • Mike HoF 2020 on ForumsNo worries. Was very interesting. My database has only 2 actors in 95 % of of the entire list not the others actors. I like reviewing some of the others on occasion. I don't have the time anymore like when I first started. The B.O. data days took me almost 5 years to research and load. I had just completed Ann Doran she was in 192 movies. W can keep doing some on occasion.

  • Mike HoF 2020 on ForumsI have only a few at this time. Sounds like you have quite a large database established. Mine is large, but lacks most of the supporting cast at this time. Just the main female or male lead actors. My process still in work. My database has mostly B.O. data. A couple of other characters are below. Bob Steele 153 movies. Glenn Strange 241 movies.
  • Dan on ForumsLane Chandler has 274 films in my database. The serial The Valley of Vanishing Men has besides Lane, 54 other actors in my database. Union Pacific is the film with the most actors in my database, 53. Around the World in 80 days has 49.
  • Mike HoF 2020 on ForumsHi Dan, My work is still in process at this time. I have several candidates in work. But there is one that stands out currently. A actor named Lane Chandler who has been in 292 movies in my B.O. database. I guess you could call him a modern day Samuel Jackson or Eric Roberts. He starred in movies with almost all the great stars from the 20's to the 1960s. They were mostly minor role and uncredited. Once in awhile he would get lines. He appeared in over 90 movies that are on Mr. Cogerson movie list. Several Blockbusters. Look...

Note: Some B.O. data is small because in the top 20 to 25 cities domestic it was taken from 1 or 2 theaters only. Just for fun. 1929 Big News $211,800.00 1929 Smiling Irish Eyes...

  • Cogerson on Tom Hanks MoviesThis is our 2nd oldest page....it has been updated over 50 times over the years. As he approaches 70, his movies seem to debut on this chart lower and lower. On this update, Here comes in at #55. Not thinking it is going to crack the Top 50. To date, I have seen 29 of his movies in theaters, but only one since 2016....and that would be 2022's A Man Called Otto. That is easily the second most movies I have seen in theaters by a movie star. He only trails Mr. Bruce Willis.

  • Chris Dye on AFI Top 50 Screen LegendsI agree with the vast majority of this list. I’m 56 years old but LOVE the classics and am very familiar with actors from the “Golden Age of Hollywood”. So this isn’t coming from “recency bias”, but Daniel Day Lewis HAS to be on this Top 20 List! Almost ALL of his roles have been spectacular. Although not prolific (not a criteria here), he is clearly one of the greatest actors of his generation! Personally, I would have to bounce either Cagney or more likely Lancaster, which admittedly would not be easy, but necessary. Thoughts?

  • Cogerson on Charles Walters MoviesHey Flora. 20 is pretty good....or 80% of his movies. He apparently only directed one scene in Gigi...as he was filling in for V. Minnelli who was overseas when they re-shot his scene. I have only seen 8 of his movies. The one I have seen the most is Walk Don't Run....which was Walters and Cary Grant's last theatrical movies. Of the ones we have both seen....I would probably put High Society and Easter Parade as my favorites. Good stuff as always.
  • Flora Breen Robison on Charles Walters MoviesI have seen 20 Charles Walters movies. The HIGHEST Rated movie I have seen is Gigi. The highest rated movie I have NOT seen is Good News. • Cogerson on August 21st – UMR Book 5 99% DoneHey Dan. The first version will be in paperback. About a week later the hard cover will be available. These books always look horrible as downloads. Because of the tables being so big. So not even going down that road. Currently doing the proofreading and fact checking....which is a huge task for all the information in the book. Things we have caught already but screwed up in the first place. I made Benicio Del Toro 71 years old and Joanne Woodward 41 years old. I am sure Ms. Woodward would be glad to make that change.

  1. I see that the ‘Recent Posts’ box refers to June 8 for Steve’s videos and Feb 7th for Frances’ new page.

I feel as if I’m in one of Steve’s beloved sci-fi movie time machines flitting back and forward between present, past and future!

    1. Thanks Bob….those “post” issues have been fixed…..my second July 8th post is having even more issues…hoping to get that one fixed soon.

        1. Hey Bob…..Damn sleep got in the way….I have 58 minutes before we leave for the airport….so much to do on the website….and only 57 minutes to do it.

  2. In the Belfast of “Holy Ireland” of the 1950s and 60s churches and other religious organisations discouraged, and often forbade, their memberships to attend movie houses. The latter tended to be referred to by such bodies as “dens of iniquity” or “Devil’s caves.” Each a mini little Sodom and Gomorrah!

As there was no swearing or overt sex in films back in the early decades I never completely understood the to me paranoia over the matter as the reasoning was never fully explained, but I guess it maybe had at least something to do with factors such as (1) [albeit tame by today’s standards] the violence in movies such as the Cagney/Bogie gangster ones (2) partially-clad women appearing in music hall scenes or in the saloons of westerns. In the latter case whilst the true screen profession of the actresses didn’t register with us kids, adults were fully aware of the reality of the situation – Randolph, Audie and Johnny Mack among the hookers!

Immediately opposite The Castle cinema building that I haunted in my youth is one of East Belfast’s most prestigious churches and a neighbour of ours, mild-mannered Mr Quinn, was an Elder on the church committee. True to his church’s edicts he never went to the cinema until on one occasion he thought it would be all right to go see The Robe as it was supposedly a “religious” film. Unfortunately a fellow Elder looked across the road and saw Mr Quinn in The Castle queue and the latter lost his position as an Elder. It was the talk of the street for weeks.

DIRECT EXPERIENCES 1/One night in the early 1950s I was standing outside the then Alhambra cinema in Belfast’s city centre just gazing at the posters when this middle-aged women who was passing suddenly lashed out at me with her fist and struck my ear, whereupon she shouted at me “Heathen!” and then fled up the street like a deer.

2/Nowadays with the multi-screens, queues outside cinemas are rare but in at least the fifties and the sixties over here queuing for up to an hour at the single-screen theatres then in existence was almost a nightly occurrence. Such queues were “captive audiences” for the “hellfire” preachers who would stand at the top of them and severely lecture us patrons in booming voices. I recall one night in 1960 queuing outside Belfast’s central Royal Avenue cinema for my second visit to Psycho when one such preacher put us all under the cosh with warnings such as: “Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho,” he said pointing up at the marquee above us “Enjoy it while you can, friends, because while Alfred Hitchcock will be in Hell where you’re all going, there’ll be no cinemas there!” So the bad news for Work Horse, Steve, Flora and others among us devotees of Hitch’s work, is that Norman and Mother aren’t the only ones who will end up being punished if that preacher had gotten it right!

  3. I am currently in Reykjavic, Iceland ( my wife wanted to see the summer solstice here). The sun sets currently at 12:03 AM and rises about 2:50 AM here.

    1. Hey Dan…..that is awesome. Very envious of you and your wife. My son was in Iceland for a brief stopover…..but I have never even come close to visiting there….and seeing the summer solstice is a lifetime memory for sure. Have a great time….and thanks for checking in while you are on adventure! I of course have to ask….did you go to a Reykjavic movie theater?

      1. No. There’s only 1 near the hotel, a place called The Cinema which only shows documentaries about Iceland by 1 Valdimar Leiffson who also owns the cinema. There are 7 films in constant repertoire and none is longer than 55 minutes. According to the website you sit on a couch watching them.

They are advertising Toy Story 4 and Men in Black: International playing somewhere on the other 4 cinemas in town. There is a theater in a big shopping mall you see the outside of. This is on the other side of town. This is told to us the tourists while you’re doing the city bus tour.

        1. Hey Dan….thanks for the look at Iceland and their movie theaters. Sounds like Mr. Leiffson has made a theater out of home movies and a couch….lol. Sounds pretty interesting. Good to know that Woody and Buzz have reached Iceland. Glad to hear you and your wife are having a good time. I really appreciate these “reports” from Iceland. Makes me so glad we started this hobby thing so many years ago. Stay safe.

  4. After a March that I thought was going to kill UMR….April was a nice bounce back month when looking a total views for the website. March 2019 saw a decrease of 23% for the month.

    Previous April Totals
    2015 108,336 views
    2016 285,375 views
    2017 341,704 views
    2018 368,359 views
    2019 396,378 views up 7.60% over 2018

    So basically UMR lives….It’s ALIVE!

      1. Hey Helakoski….thanks for the kind words. March was very frustrating for sure…April turned out to be a good month….if only I could fix the “comment edit” button. Good feedback.

    1. Hello Bruce,
So sorry to read your comment about March but as a « fidèle » readers and sometimes commenters on UMR, i have been coming every weeks for years and several time by week but I have to say that sometimes for the new pages I don’t even know the name of the actors or the actress.
In USA you have so many stars or great second actors but many of them are not known in France and for that reasons I cannot make a comment.
Good to read that APRIL is better and for May I drink for a big succès a glass of Chardonnay
      Santé
      Pierre

      1. Hey Pierre good to hear from you. I agree some of the latest subjects are far from household names. Not saying we are getting near the end of subjects…..but I feel the “legends” have been done. I remember my old English professor….he used to say….”I wish I could read Romeo and Juliet for the first time…again.”. I sort of feel the same way on the latest UMR subjects. April really rebuilt my spirits….many times in March I was ready to give up. May is starting off well too. Hope you enjoyed that big succès a glass of Chardonnay Santé. Good stuff.
