HI STEVE: It seems that Bruce’s posts deletion system isn’t working. If you have seen my 12.11 PM post yesterday on Alice Faye’s page you are entitled to ask “What’s Bob playing at?” because it contains parts of the posts that I sent you about Preston Sturges. I immediately discovered the duplication and-
1/requested deletion of the duplication 2/was assured the post had been deleted 3/saw that initially the latter was the case but 4/now notice that the duplication has broken through the system and returned. Just ignore it and apologies if I caused you confusion. The deletion button has failed me a few times recently.

Hey Bob…thanks for the tombstone suggestions…..as for keep it simple….I try and do that…..first priority is listing a star that has an UMR page in the UMR Co-Star page. This page was slightly different…as I felt I should include the subject of the movie. As for Rory….one day…one day he will get more love.
HI BRUCE Just a parting post to thank you for your block of multi posts today in response to all/most of my own latest ones.
As I said to Steve, I will look in on the site as much as possible during my holiday but as usual will not do any substantial commenting until I return home. If Steve is thinking of doing a new Statham video it would be helpful if he did it while I am away so that I can pretend that I missed it! [Only kidding – it’s always a pleasure to respond to his videos, whoever the subject, just as it is commenting on your new pages.]

Valentina Cotese [who as Dan says died today] started out in Italian films in 1940 before moving into American ones at the end of the forties though she continued to make European films. I can recall seeing little of her work in either the Italian or American cinema and remember her in just 3 connections:
1/From 1951 -1960 she was married to Richard Basehart, a supporting/B actor whom I admired.
2/She was the top-billed star of 1952’s British drama Secret People, probably most remembered today for giving Audrey Hepburn her first significant role which led to Audrey being signed for Roman Holiday the following year.
3/Valentina had a supporting role in Bogie’s 1954 The Barefoot Contessa as the widowed sister of the impotent Count Vincenzo played by Rosanno Brazzi.
On her death today Valentina is reported to have an actual net worth of $2.5 million and IMDB credits her with 7 acting awards and 5 nominations. Her only child, a son John “Jackie” Basehart, from her union with Richard Basehart died tragically in 2015 from a rare disease at the age of 63. For a short while in the late seventies and early eighties Jackie was one of the most sought-after actors in the Italian cinema. His final film role was a supporting one in1999’s Tea with Mussolini as Count Bernardini which grossed about $46 million in the US alone against a $12 million budget – about $70milion and $18 million respectively in today’s money. Richard Basehart himself died in 1984 aged 70. R.I.P Valentina, Richard and Jackie, a minor acting dynasty.
Hey Bob…..thanks for sharing all of this great information on Valentina and Richard Basehart….all of it was unknown to me. Basehart has almost gotten an UMR page a few times. That is sad news about the passing of their son. I actually just saw Tea With Mussolini……a film that was much better than I thought it was going to be. Great feedback…thanks for opening up that wealth of movie knowledge you carry with you.
HI BRUCE Thanks for the feedback. I most remember Basehart for:
1/ Low budget film noirs such as Good Die Young [one of my father’s fave movies] Intimate Stranger, Tension, Side Street. His female fatale in Intimate Stranger was Brando’s Wild One girl “all grownup” Mary Murphy. The film was directed by the great Joseph Losey [The Damned, The Servant] under the pseudonym of Alec C Snowden.
2/Richard was 2nd lead to Paul Douglas in 14 Hours,Grace Kelly’s debut movie.
3/Supporting my Greg in Moby Dick. If I recall correctly Rihard played the ‘hero’ to Greg’s fanatical Captain Ahab. That was a highpoint for Richard because he got equal billing to megastar Greg. Greg himself preferred the 1998 TV miniseries of Moby Dick in which he appeared as Father Mapple because he felt it was more faithful to the novel. Welles had a cameo in Greg’s 1956 movie as Mapple and Rod Steiger later played Cap Ahab in a stage production of Moby Dick produced by Orson with his salary for that movie cameo. A lot of fantastic ‘Dan’ stuff in there Bruce! Greg met the 4 year old Anjelica Huston on the set with her father John the director of the film.
“ “Rock” and “Tab” are silly names even for romantic sex symbols, and “Rip” is particularly inappropriate for a serious character actor. But Rip Torn’s talent has diverted attention from his frivolous name, winning the respect of critics and audiences alike.” The Master.
On his death yesterday Rip Torn left behind a reported actual net worth of $5 million. He is credited by IMDB with 8 acting awards and 20 nominations including a nom for best supporting actor in 1983’s Cross Creek. I have seen him in 11 of the movies listed for him on Wikipedia and IMDB-

Time Limit – produced by my Richard [Widmark] and directed by Richard’s pal Karl Malden.
In all of those Rip’s roles, in terms of stardom, varied from insignificant to routine supporting but The Master praises him for Time Limit and Sweet Bird of Youth and awards 4 stars for those, Coma and a few others that I have not seen.
Also, in a 1991 Columbo TV episode called “Death hits the Jackpot” Rip takes centre stage alongside the scruffy detective as the Lead villain and the pair were simply riveting to watch as they played cat-and-mouse with each other. Indeed on top of his highly 60 year prolific film career Rip appeared in 33 TV productions overall and provided voice participation to 3 video games.
