    1. Hey Dan
      1. Thanks for the information on Mr. Duryea.
      2. From the first list….only James Hong is alive…but at 89 not thinking he has too many more movie in his future…though he is currently in theaters now (Sherlock Gnomes) and has two movie in post production.
      3. Sad that Curtis, Winters, Borgnine and Carradine are no longer with us.
      4. The second list is pretty massive…..gotta admit…I am disappointed that you did not give James Stewart credit for their movie Night Passage…..and I thought you had your act together….lol….just joking….you are still the man.
      5. Only one movie with Bess Flowers….that does not happen too often.
      6. Of his 24 Oscar co-stars, it looks like they came from 3 movies…Flight of the Navigator, Pride of the Yankees and Valley of Decision.
Great lists as always….thanks for sharing the information.

        1. Add these Night Passage links to Mr. Duryea for 2000.

344 JAMES STEWART Night Passage (1957)
404 JACK ELAM Night Passage (1957)
542 PAUL FIX Night Passage (1957)
783 JAMES FLAVIN Night Passage (1957)
          917 ROBERT J. WILKE Night Passage (1957)
994 ELLEN CORBY Night Passage (1957)

          1. Hey Dan….thanks for the additional information…and for giving Night Passage it’s proper due.

        2. Hey Dan…no problem…..I was just picking with you about the exclusion of Night Passage….your lists are very detailed and interesting to read…..glad you were able to include Mr. Duryea into your database so quickly.

  2. I am a film noir fan, and Duryea has been in many as well as other genres. He adds a lot to his movies.

I have seen 18 Dan Duryea movies.

The highest ranking film I have seen is Pride of the Yankees.

The highest ranking film I have NOT seen is Night Passage.

After that, I have seen 4 more movies. The LOWEST ranked film I have seen is Too Late for Tears.

The Burglar remains high on my to-see list.

    Favourite Dan Duryea films are:

    The Woman in the Window
    Scarlet Street
    Ball of Fire
    Criss Cross
    Winchester 73
    Ministry of Fear
    Lady on a Train
    Too Late For Tears

    1. By the way –
You will notice I listed only 8 movies instead of the usual 10. That is because I have seen only 18.

You will also notice that Valley of Decision is not among my favourites even though it is a Gregory Peck movie. Among Gregory Peck films, it has never been one of my favourites, despite it being a box office hit.

      1. Hey Flora…..I noticed that your Top 10 was really only a Top 8. As for Valley of Decision….that is a movie that has quickly faded from my memory. That cast should have made a very memorable movie…..but they did not. My least favorite Peck movie from the 1940s. Good feedback as always.

    2. Hey Flora
      1. I feel pretty good being at 12 when it comes to the tally count. I have seen 12 of the Top 15 movies. My first miss was Mrs. Parkington. I am right there with you in regards to the lower 60% of his movies.
      2. Most of those movies were low budget movies that barely played in theaters….especially the movies from the 1960s.
      3. I have read that Duryea is very good in The Burglar…..though everybody that knows that movie thinks of Jayne Mansfield first, second and third…lol.
      4. Of your favorities…..I have seen the Top 6….but have not seen Lady on a Train or Too Late For Tears.
      5. Chicago Calling is the one that made my “movies to watch list”.
Thanks as always for stopping by and commenting.

      1. Hey Samily….wow….a comment from NoC (Nephew of Cogerson) and now one from you….a good day getting better.

  3. You beat me on Dan Duryea, Bruce, I was planning to do a video on him eventually.

Looking at the chart I’ve only seen a few of his films, just 7, they are – Ball of Fire, Criss Cross, Night Passage, Sahara, The Flight of the Phoenix, The Hills Run Red and my favorite of the bunch – Winchester 73.

I haven’t seen your three chart toppers – Valley of Decision (box office), Scarlet Street (critics) and The Pride of the Yankees (UMR score).

Good work as always. Vote Up!

    1. Hey Steve
      1. I was watching Scarlet Street last night…when I figured he was a good subject to do.
      2. I have seen 12 of his movies…..all in the Top 15….and then 0 of his movies from 16th to 55th place.
      3. I have seen 6 of the ones you have seen with The Hills Run Red being the one I missed.
      4. Winchester 73 is a classic western….but I actually like Night Passage more. The Flight of the Phoenix is a good movie….love Stewart in that one…in my mind it was Stewart’s last good movie.
      5. Scarlet Street has some nice twists and turns…with Edward G. Robinson stealing the show…..The Pride of the Yankees is a good movie….but not thinking a baseball movie is too high on your list of movies to watch. Was not too impressed with Valley of Decision.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Dan Duryea.

  4. Dan Duryea was one of Hollywood’s most engaging bad guys. David Thompson once wrote, “In striped suit, bow-tie and straw hat, the Duryea of Scarlet Street is a delicious villain. A sly man, creeps on malice as if it were a cat to catch”.

Rating the Movie Stars by Joel H. – 4 star Duryea performances
    1941 The Little Foxes
    1941 Ball of Fire

    1949 Manhandled
    1949 Too Late For Tears
    1949 Johnny Stool Pidgeon
    1950 One Way Street

    1. Always good to hear from Joel….how his 4 star performances did in our UMR score board.

      1941 The Little Foxes – 2nd
      1941 Ball of Fire – 3rd
1944 The Woman in the Window – 6th
1944 None But The Lonely Heart -13th
      1945 Along Came Jones -10th
      1945 Scarlet Street – 5th

      1949 Too Late For Tears – 24th
      1949 Johnny Stool Pidgeon -38th
      1950 One Way Street -21st

Decent showing….looks like Johnny Stool Pidgeon is the worst one when comparing the two lists.
