The Drivel Part of the page.  A few years ago, my wife requested a Debbie Reynolds (1932-2016) movie ranking page.  For some unknown reason, especially since she has done so many things to make this website better and easier to maintain, I have failed to follow through with that request.  Well last night, I told my lovely wife that I was finally ready to publish her Debbie Reynolds page.  I then asked her for the first time why she wanted a Reynolds page.  Her response….”Because she has a cool first name”.  In case you could not guess it….my wife’s name is Debbie.  So for my Debbie….here is finally a Debbie Reynolds movie page.

Her IMDb page shows 83 acting credits from 1948-2015. This page will rank 38 Debbie Reynolds movies from Best to Worst in seven different sortable columns of information. Television shows, shorts, cameos and movies that were not released in North American theaters were not included in the rankings.  To do well in our rankings a movie has to do well at the box office, get good reviews by critics, be liked by audiences and get some award recognition.

    1. Hey Sharon….I agree….RIP….and yes another connection to the old Hollywood is gone. Pretty sure she was the last major star of the the all-star cast of How The West Was Won…..to still be around. Thanks for sharing your good wishes here.

        1. Hey Dan….thanks….I had forgotten about Carroll Baker. I agree 100%…it is too weird about them passing in back to back days. RIP Debbie and Carrie….you will be missed.

  1. Damn damn. This is one crappy holiday for Carrie’s daughter. First the death of her mother and now grandma is in the hospital. Sending lots of good hope to the Reynolds house.

      1. Hey Stein…..I feel so sorry for Billy Lourd…yesterday her mom and today her grandmother. She might never get excited about this holiday again. Rest in Peace Debbie Reynolds.

    1. Hey Stein…..wow…it looks like you were on top of things….as you saw the hospital news and then later the passing news…..a very sad day indeed.

  2. Hi
Singing in the Rain is one of my all time favourite musicals. I’m not surprised that she felt intimidated working with Gene Kelly, she was only 20. It’s a pity MGM never capitalized on her success or build her up into a major star. They just seemed to let her career drift. I recently watched How The West Was Won and she was really good in it.
She’s still doing her one woman shows all around the world. I’m glad they’re going to give her an honorary Oscar. No doubt presented at the Governor’s Ball instead of the main event. Looking forward to your page on Colbert.

    1. Hey Chris….thanks for commenting and visiting my Debbie Reynolds movie page. I am sure she probably strongly disliked Kelly while making Singin’ In The Rain….but I hope she looks back at that as a great experience in making a classic movie. By the 1950s, MGM was starting to lose their mojo….so I do not find that they did not help Reynolds much a surprise at all. I agree with you about How The West Was Won….her character is the one that holds all the stories together. I really miss them not giving the Honorary Oscars at the main event. The Honorary Oscars have been some of the greatest moments in Oscar history. For example Charlie Chaplin, Cary Grant and many others. Instead now we get longer music and dances sequences and a 15 second video shout out to the Honorary Oscar winners…..sad and pretty stupid….if you ask me. Colbert has been bumped by Bacall….but she is coming soon.

  3. Hi, Cogerson.

Debbie Reynolds has been on your request page forever. Glad to see you finally got her page done!

I am familiar with the careers of all 6 women who have danced with both Astair and Kelly. Hayworth was the first.

So you have seen 6 films and Steve has seen even less? You’re missing a great career. I always enjoy seeing a Debbie Reynolds film. And do try to find a good copy of The Unsinkable Molly Brown and The Tender Trap, guys.

The highest ranking film I have seen is, of course, Singin’ in the Rain at Number 1.

The lowest ranking film I have seen is The Catered Affair at 36 opposite Rod Taylor whom lost in January.

The highest ranking film i have not seen is Mother at number 6.

I have not seen her voice only roles. Other titles I am missing tend to be films made since 1990 although I did see In & Out. It was a one time see.

My totals by ranking are as follows:

I have seen all five of her top 5.
I have seen 6 of her top 10
I have seen 9 of her top 15
I have seen 13 of her top 20
I have seen 16 of her top 25
I have seen 19 of her top 30

I have seen 21 of her movies 38 overall.

Movies I am looking forward to seeing for the first time include My Six Loves, It Started With a Kiss, and The Pleasure of His Company.

My favourite 5 movies of Debbie Reynolds are:

    Singin’ in the Rain
    The Gazebo
    How The West Was Won
    The Unsinkable Molly Brown
    The Tender Trap

Other films I see multiple times include Hit the Deck and The Mating Game.

Being that Steve likes horror movies he might want to try What’s the Matter With Helen?

You might like to see Tammy and the Bachelor with your daughter sometime.

One film I have seen that gets quite a high ranking which I never enjoyed despite the cast was Goodbye Charlie. I have only bothered to see it once.

People who love movie musicals will enjoy all the movie musicals she made regardless of the ranking.

    Cheers,

    Flora

    1. Hey Flora….thanks for checking out my latest movie page.
      1. One of the biggest reasons it took so long is the fact that I had actually researched her movies many moons….but lost the papers that had that information…and I found it hard to re- motivate myself to do it again. The same thing happened with Claudette Colbert….lost those numbers while on vacation.
      2. The list of women that danced with Fred and Gene is pretty impressive….Reynolds danced in one movie with Kelly and two with Astaire
      3. Our tally counts (Steve and mine)…are pretty low indeed. I correctly guessed that you would destroy us…..21 to 6 to 3. I was recently watching The Unsinkable Molly Brown the other day but my “borrowed library disk” was in horrible shape and I finally gave up around 25 minutes into the movie….it was off to a good start….I will have finish that movie later.
      4. The Tender Trap is on my list of movies to watch.
      5. You did awesome with her Top 5….the rest of the Top 10 pretty much escaped you….but still 21 of 38 is impressive.
      6. Our your Top 5 I have seen Singin’ In The Rain and How The West Was Won…..both very good movies..and she has the biggest role in How The West Was Won. I had never even heard of the Gazebo before doing this page.
      7. National Lampoon (the Razzies 40 years before the Razzies) really disliked Hit The Deck when it came out. They put it on their 10 Worst movies of the year…and gave Reynolds the Worst Actress award for Hit the Deck and her role in Susan Slept Here. Seems that is movie that has aged nicely.
      8. I think her musicals (besides Singin’) have been underrated….maybe when she gets her Honorary Oscar in a few months they will start getting some more attention.
As always….thanks for stopping by and talking movies.
