Whatever happened to Debra Winger? She was all the rage back in the 80s.
I’ve only seen 4 of Debra’s films – An Officer and a Gentleman, Terms of Endearment, Legal Eagles and Thank God it’s Friday! (no wait it’s wednesday isn’t it?) 😉
Which is more well known today Terms or Officer? Terms won the Best Picture Oscar but Officer still gets referenced in pop culture, cartoons, tv shows etc plus that song helped make it even more popular. Neither are favorites of mine. If I had to watch a Debra Winger film it will have to be Legal Eagles.
Good stuff Bruce. Vote Up!
Hey Steve….thanks for checking out our latest page. I agree she was the “all the rage” back then. I have your tally tripled……I have seen all of the ones you have seen…..I actually saw Legal Eagles and Thank God It’s Friday in theaters….had a very memorable date the night I saw Legal Eagles (thank you Mary Young…now Mary Price). I think both Terms and Officer are fading away…but you might be correct Officer has had more of a pop culture impact. Good stuff as always.
I saw 8 of top 11. only one 10, terms of endearment, not a favourite. 9s: shadowlands and leap of faith, a favourite and hidden gem. 8s:officer and a gentleman, urban cowboy ,radio, legal eagles a hidden gem. 3 best actress nominations for Oscar, I have got to see more of her.
Hey Bob Cox….thanks for the tally and the ratings of the ones you have seen . Looking at your list…it looks like you have seen her best movies. Last year she was pretty good in The Lovers…it is a small film…with some good performances. The one I like that is not on your seen list is Cannery Row….it has some nice moments…and Winger and Nick Nolte make a good screen couple. Good stuff as always.
I have seen 4 Debra Winger movies.
Two movies are favourites: Terms of Endearment and An Officer and a Gentleman.
I have also seen Shadowlands and Cannery Row.
Hey Flora…thanks for checking out one of more current star pages. You have seen her better movies. I like your two favorites. I have seen 15 of these movies…with Cannery Row being a movie I have fond memories of. Good feedback as always.
Loved her growing up. Terms of Endearment and Officer and a Gentleman are two favorites. Shared with my mom, who loves her too. Not sure I remember her name spelled this way.
Hey Helakoski….very cool comment…glad you enjoyed our Debra Winger page. Hope your mom likes it too. As for her name….it does look strange…but I am married to a Deborah. Good to hear from you.
HI BRUCE
You and I have already discussed the decline of Debra Winger’s career. As your table above shows her peak years were short and were in the period 1980-1986 when she had 4 hits that crashed your magical $100 million dollar barrier. After that it was consistently downhill at the box office and her other 22 films in your table have an overall adjusted domestic Cogerson gross of just $485 million [average of a paltry $22 million per movie]
However I liked Debra in Terms of Endearment, Officer and Gentleman, Betrayed and especially Black Widow and I watched those movies initially at a juncture when my kids were growing up so that is now a nostalgic period for me and therefore for old time sake I welcome your new page on Debs, so “Voted Up”!
Hey Bob….good breakdown of Debra Winger’s career. I agree 100% with you about her peak years and her decline. But the peak of her career was awesome. Urban Cowboy, Officer and a Gentleman and Terms of Endearment…what a trilogy of movies. Glad you like Black Widow…it is a good thriller…too bad people were already not paying attention to her movies when it got released. Pretty sure it opened the same weekend as From the Hip….that was in my serious Judd Nelson fan days. Thanks for the votes up.
