Disney Movies

Want to know the best Disney movies?  How about the worst Disney movies?  Curious about Disney  box office grosses or which Disney movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which Disney movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences and which one got the worst reviews? Well you have come to the right place …. because we have all of that information and much more.

When Walt Disney decided to produce a full length animated movie in the mid-1930s … almost everybody thought it was a disaster waiting to happen.  It even earned the nickname …. Disney’s Folly.  While it turns out the man knew what he was doing…..as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs become one of the biggest box office hits of all time.  Since then the Disney company has been producing one hit movie after another for almost the last 80 years.  So far there have been 54 Disney Animated Movies.

This page will rank those 54 Disney movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Movies that were only distributed by Disney did not make the list…..so you will not find any Pixar or Disney Toons movies…in other words if the animation was done outside of Disney it does not make the list. If you are interested in Pixar movies you can check out my Pixar page here.  Another page you might be interested in checking out is Walt Disney Live Action Movies 1937 – 1967.

Disney Movies Ranked In Chronological Order With Ultimate Movie Rankings Score (1 to 5 UMR Tickets) *Best combo of box office, reviews and awards.

Disney Movies Can Be Ranked 6 Ways In This Table

The really cool thing about this table is that it is “user-sortable”. Rank the movies anyway you want.

  • Sort Disney movies by the voice stars
  • Sort Disney movies by adjusted domestic box office grosses using current movie ticket cost (in millions)
  • Sort Disney movies by yearly domestic box office rank
  • Sort Disney movies how they were received by critics and audiences.  60% rating or higher should indicate a good movie
  • Sort by how many Oscar® nominations and how many Oscar® wins each Disney movie received.
  • Sort Disney movies by Ultimate Movie Rankings (UMR) Score.  UMR Score puts box office, reviews and awards into a mathematical equation and gives each movie a score.

  1. A great page! Although there have been some excellent Disney movies over the last 20 years, I am somewhat partial to earlier Disney works. Among my favorites are Pinocchio, Dumbo, Lady and the Tramp, and Peter Pan.

    1. Hey thatmovieguy71….. I would say my favorites would be the Aladdin era Disney movies. Sadly growing up Disney was starting to struggle with Walt Disney death…but they bounced back with the little mermaid…too bad it took them 20 years to recover……at least in my opinion. I think they are still trying to figure out computer animated movies as their movies pale in comparison to Pixar movies… But I am sure they will figure it out. Thanks for the comment.

  2. The first movie I ever saw was Lady and the Tramp. Disney’s movies so enraptured me as a child, and I enjoyed watching them again with my own kids, as well as the new ones produced at that time. One of the things I miss about not having little kids around is those wonderful films.

    1. Hey Dolores…I think many Disney movies cause the same memories as you and Lady and the Tramp. I am sure when our last batch of kids get older we will miss watching all these Disney movies on a regular basis….thanks for stopping by

  3. Pretty impressive page. You should definitely do one with Pixar vs. Disney to see how the Pixar films stack up with them, as I’d be curious to see that. Or you could do a dreamworks animated movies vs. pixar, as they both seem to the two top dogs in animated films right now.

other than that, i have to say that this is pretty impressive page. i had no idea that snow white would end up being the top box office disney film, when factoring in inflation. anyway, keep up the great work as always buddy

    1. Hey Stevennix2001….actually one of the first pages I ever did was a Dreamworks vs Pixar page….but it needs a major upgrade….it pains me to actually look at that one now….and I remember how I thought it was awesome back then. I think the success of this page has me motivated to fix that old dusty pages…thanks for stopping by.

      1. I guess i must’ve missed that one. well i’ll definitely be sure to check it out then. thanks for the heads up. 🙂

        1. Hey stevennix2001….i think that page was ignored by everybody including myself. But I think the updated hub is worth checking out.

  4. LADY AND THE TRAMP IS MY FAVORITE ONE BUT HAVE ENJOYED THEM ALL. HAS SAM AND EMILY SEEN THAT ONE? DO YOU HAVE IT? ANOTHER INFORMATIVE HUB COGERSON. Hey, I watched old movies and wedding film yesterday afternoon – VCR TAPES – interesting. Glad you guys liked THE ARTIST AT THE MOVIES.

    1. Hey BERN1960….well Lady and the Tramp just got released on Blu-ray…you will have to come over and watch it on the big screen in hi-def with the grandkids. I am glad you enjoyed your afternoon with your VHS tapes….thanks for stopping by.

  5. My favourite movie is Fantasia.

    Other favourites in alphabetical order

    Mary Poppins

    Peter Pan

    Pinnochio

    Lady and the Tramp

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

    Sleeping Beauty

Because of the plot lines, I can’t ever see me watching Bambi (too sad) or The little Mermaid (mermaids were actually evil creatures who lured men to their doom in mythology). Re: Bambi- I can’t bear watching Dumbo again.

But there are other movies made before I graduated from high school I do want to see that I’m missing.

Because The Princess and the Frog is a return to traditional animation, I would also like to see that movie.

    1. Hey Flora…I see you listed Mary Poppins….my mother-in-law wants a page of the Disney Live Action movies…I imagine Mary Poppins will be high on that table. Princess and the Frog is ok…but my little critics never ask to watch it…granted we have about 200 kids movies in the house….Bambi is not too sad….after that one famous scene…..one of the facts I almost added was…when Walt Disney was visiting the Disney animators…they would say “Man is in the woods”…which was a reference to Bambi …I thought it was pretty cool..thanks for the revisit and the comments.
