Disney Movies

Want to know the best Disney movies?  How about the worst Disney movies?  Curious about Disney  box office grosses or which Disney movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which Disney movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences and which one got the worst reviews? Well you have come to the right place …. because we have all of that information and much more.

When Walt Disney decided to produce a full length animated movie in the mid-1930s … almost everybody thought it was a disaster waiting to happen.  It even earned the nickname …. Disney’s Folly.  While it turns out the man knew what he was doing…..as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs become one of the biggest box office hits of all time.  Since then the Disney company has been producing one hit movie after another for almost the last 80 years.  So far there have been 54 Disney Animated Movies.

This page will rank those 54 Disney movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Movies that were only distributed by Disney did not make the list…..so you will not find any Pixar or Disney Toons movies…in other words if the animation was done outside of Disney it does not make the list. If you are interested in Pixar movies you can check out my Pixar page here.  Another page you might be interested in checking out is Walt Disney Live Action Movies 1937 – 1967.

Disney Movies Ranked In Chronological Order With Ultimate Movie Rankings Score (1 to 5 UMR Tickets) *Best combo of box office, reviews and awards.

Disney Movies Can Be Ranked 6 Ways In This Table

The really cool thing about this table is that it is “user-sortable”. Rank the movies anyway you want.

  • Sort Disney movies by the voice stars
  • Sort Disney movies by adjusted domestic box office grosses using current movie ticket cost (in millions)
  • Sort Disney movies by yearly domestic box office rank
  • Sort Disney movies how they were received by critics and audiences.  60% rating or higher should indicate a good movie
  • Sort by how many Oscar® nominations and how many Oscar® wins each Disney movie received.
  • Sort Disney movies by Ultimate Movie Rankings (UMR) Score.  UMR Score puts box office, reviews and awards into a mathematical equation and gives each movie a score.

  1. Great page, Bruce. I loved Beauty and the Beast…though the song is a little over played in my mind. LOL! A great review, and you do a wonderful job on calculating scores! Shared!

    1. Hey midget38….I am sure Disney songs have been stuck in many people’s minds for many years….lol….currently my 6 year old keeps singing the street rat song from Aladdin. Thanks for the nice compliment and the visit.

  2. A great page and I still love cartoons and Disney characters, Fb shared, i wish there was a genie like the one on Aladdin, would make a lot of things easier. I hope to publish my second page soon. Great Cogerson score

    1. Hey Deepa….thanks for the visit and the comment. A genie would indeed make things easier….lol. Glad to hear a second hub is coming soon. Thanks for the share as well.

  3. Not such a great list if you look at it from the X generations perspective. Only one film from our childhood made the top twenty, The Jungle Book (12); followed by The Aristocats (23)… not exactly classics. Oh well, at least we had Lucas and Spielberg by the time we reached our teens.

    1. Hey fromMarkHall….true the X generation suffered from the loss of Walt Disney and the aftermath of the direction to follow after his passing….we did have Gus(football playing mule) and The Apple Dumpling Gang movies…..lol. Both of which I thought were great movies back then. And as you comment…Lucas and Spielberg came to save the day with Jaws, Raiders, Close Encounters and Star Wars….thanks for a very educated comment.

  4. I have seen 41 movies, come from large movie family and had 6 children. Disney created Fantasy and dreams

    1. Hey charlierein….it seems we have alot in common, big families and a lifetime of watching Disney movies…thanks for the comment and the visit.

  5. Before Mickey Mouse was Oswald the Rabbit but I believe Walt lost him to the artist who drew him and that’s why Walt drew Mickey himself. The Snow White animated film was a precursor and standard for all animated films to come (though we called them cartoons back in the day.)

    1. Hey tillsontitan. It is amazing how the lose of Oswald turned into the win of Mickey. I agree with you about the legacy of Snow White….a huge gamble back then he is still paying off for Disney 75 years later…thanks for stopping by.
