Disney Movies

Want to know the best Disney movies?  How about the worst Disney movies?  Curious about Disney  box office grosses or which Disney movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which Disney movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences and which one got the worst reviews? Well you have come to the right place …. because we have all of that information and much more.

When Walt Disney decided to produce a full length animated movie in the mid-1930s … almost everybody thought it was a disaster waiting to happen.  It even earned the nickname …. Disney’s Folly.  While it turns out the man knew what he was doing…..as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs become one of the biggest box office hits of all time.  Since then the Disney company has been producing one hit movie after another for almost the last 80 years.  So far there have been 54 Disney Animated Movies.

This page will rank those 54 Disney movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Movies that were only distributed by Disney did not make the list…..so you will not find any Pixar or Disney Toons movies…in other words if the animation was done outside of Disney it does not make the list. If you are interested in Pixar movies you can check out my Pixar page here.  Another page you might be interested in checking out is Walt Disney Live Action Movies 1937 – 1967.

Disney Movies Ranked In Chronological Order With Ultimate Movie Rankings Score (1 to 5 UMR Tickets) *Best combo of box office, reviews and awards.

Disney Movies Can Be Ranked 6 Ways In This Table

The really cool thing about this table is that it is “user-sortable”. Rank the movies anyway you want.

  • Sort Disney movies by the voice stars
  • Sort Disney movies by adjusted domestic box office grosses using current movie ticket cost (in millions)
  • Sort Disney movies by yearly domestic box office rank
  • Sort Disney movies how they were received by critics and audiences.  60% rating or higher should indicate a good movie
  • Sort by how many Oscar® nominations and how many Oscar® wins each Disney movie received.
  • Sort Disney movies by Ultimate Movie Rankings (UMR) Score.  UMR Score puts box office, reviews and awards into a mathematical equation and gives each movie a score.

    1. Hey Cam …Rescuers Down Under is one of the worst reviewed Disney movies on the list…plus it bombed at the box office. In comparison it ranks pretty low in all the categories when looking at all the movies…so it is ranked pretty low. Thanks for the comment.

  1. Meet the Robinsons did better than Chicken Little at box office….. Plus, shouldn’t Treasure Planet be higher because of its nomination?

    1. Hey Jayson….actually Chicken Little did about $50 million more than Meet The Robinson earned….so despite Chicken Little’s horrible reviews it beat out the Robinsons in the final score.

Treasure Planet’s one nomination got it some additional points….but the rest of its stats are pretty weak. This was the film that almost put Disney under. That being said this is easily my oldest daughter’s favorite Disney movie.

      Thanks for stopping by.

  2. Technically Planes is DisneyToon Studios not Walt Disney Animation Studios
If it’s on the list then you also need the TinkerBell films, The jungle Book 2 etc.

    1. Hey Michael….I did not know that about Planes….as for the others…I have only included movies that got released in theaters….and they were direct to dvd release. Thanks for the information and for the visit.

  3. I remember all of these growing up. Every one of these are classics in my book. I would like to see the numbers for all Disney movies including all the non animated ones.

  4. When it comes to Disney movies… my top favorites are between The Lion King and Aladdin… I can’t really choose between the two although I will admit the Lion King has better sequels. I am a big fan of Disney movies and used to collect them when they were in those special VHS boxes. Ironic because I thought they were going to be worth something one day… nope… the tapes started wearing and frankly DVDs hit the scene. Oh well. I was a little suprised though that Fantasia ranked so high. It isn’t that I don’t like the movie… but it is one of the few that I wouldn’t miss if it wasn’t around.

    1. Hey barbergirl28….thanks for stopping by and for the comment. I think my top two would be Aladdin and the Little Mermaid. Currently our 6th and final kid….our three year Emily is stuck in the Aladdin trap….so for the 6th time in my life I am watching and listening to Aladdin at least twice a day for weeks and weeks….lol.

I did the same thing with my VHS tapes as well…I figure I will be buying Disney movies for the rest of my life….since I have been adult….I have bought The Lion King on VHS, on DVD, on BluRay and now 3D Blu-Ray…..I figure I will be buying it on DeepBluRay and 4D DeepBluRay in the next 5 or so years….lol…..who knows what they will call the next upgrade…I think…”Disney in your wallet again” would be fitting….you contribution is greatly appreciated.
