Want to know the best Disney movies? How about the worst Disney movies? Curious about Disney box office grosses or which Disney movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which Disney movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences and which one got the worst reviews? Well you have come to the right place …. because we have all of that information and much more.
When Walt Disney decided to produce a full length animated movie in the mid-1930s … almost everybody thought it was a disaster waiting to happen. It even earned the nickname …. Disney’s Folly. While it turns out the man knew what he was doing…..as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs become one of the biggest box office hits of all time. Since then the Disney company has been producing one hit movie after another for almost the last 80 years. So far there have been 54 Disney Animated Movies.
This page will rank those 54 Disney movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. Movies that were only distributed by Disney did not make the list…..so you will not find any Pixar or Disney Toons movies…in other words if the animation was done outside of Disney it does not make the list. If you are interested in Pixar movies you can check out my Pixar page here. Another page you might be interested in checking out is Walt Disney Live Action Movies 1937 – 1967.

Disney Movies Can Be Ranked 6 Ways In This Table
The really cool thing about this table is that it is “user-sortable”. Rank the movies anyway you want.
- Sort Disney movies by the voice stars
- Sort Disney movies by adjusted domestic box office grosses using current movie ticket cost (in millions)
- Sort Disney movies by yearly domestic box office rank
- Sort Disney movies how they were received by critics and audiences. 60% rating or higher should indicate a good movie
- Sort by how many Oscar® nominations and how many Oscar® wins each Disney movie received.
- Sort Disney movies by Ultimate Movie Rankings (UMR) Score. UMR Score puts box office, reviews and awards into a mathematical equation and gives each movie a score.

What about Mulan?????!!!!!
@Nunyer….Mulan is sitting in 17th place on the Cogerson Movie Score page. It did not however crack the Top Ten in box office or critical review. Thanks for stopping by.
love all of it
Glad you liked it micky
I love the list!
The Rescuers (1977)’s Adjusted for Inflation Box Office figure should be closer to $201,963,900. The figure you have listed of $104 million appears to be the adjusted figure for the original theatrical release and does not include its re-releases in 1983 and 1989.
Here is a link to the Box Office Mojo adjusted for inflation page for The Rescuers, and its re-releases:
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=releases&id=rescuers.htm&adjust_yr=2014&p=.htm
Also, it appears as though your list is meant to include canon Disney films only, which A Goofy Movie and Planes aren’t considered a part of.
Keep up the good work!
I also noticed that the $115.2 million adjusted box office figure you have listed for The Fox and the Hound appears to only cover the gross from its first theatrical release. If you were to include its 1988 theatrical re-release, the total adjusted gross should be around $163.69 million.

@Daniel…..thanks for the information on The Rescuers and The Fox and The Hound. Disney movies of yesteryear are very hard to get an accurate box office number. Box Office Mojo….is a great source after 1980…but their pre 1980 information is not too accuarate….they tend to look at rentals versus box office. But looking at the two movies you mentioned…it looks like their number is more accurate than my numbers…so I have changed the numbers…thanks again.
Sorry this took so long to respond….the latest Google updates have killed most of my pages…and out of disgust I stopped updating them….but I am back updating these pages.
Nice list. U need a live action one as well.

This is a nice collection of Walt Disney influenced live action movies….working on a page that covers 1968 to 1980….and then I think the Disney live action movies went in a different direction.
How many Drugs do you have to be on to think Mulan, Stitch and ESPECIALLY Tarzan is better than Alice and Peter
Then again… how many do you have to be on to have Frozen that high on the list. Ahead of of SNOW WHITE AND PINOCCHIO! REALLY?!?
IT’S NOT THAT GOOD! THE PRINCESSES ARE BORING (Rapunzel rip-off and Plot Device) THE SONGS ARE…FOR THE MOST PART CATCHY…BUT THAT DOESN’T MEAN THE SAME AS GOOD! THE FILM IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OVERHYPED!
Look I know I’m being immature, but I’m just trying to make a point. Come on… Alice, Peter, and Wreck it should at the very least come right after Lady and the Tramp, and Frozen should be lower, at least lower than Tangled maybe

Hey Wallabee. First of all thanks for checking out this page. My rankings are done by statistics only….so my personal feelings are not in the rankings. Granted it is my formula for the score….but it is based on three things….box office success, critic and audience opinion and any award glory the movie has received. I have ranked over 15,000 movies and the average score is roughly 40.
So of the ones you mentioned….they are scored way better than the average movie.
Looking at box office. The ceiling is 200 million…once it reaches that mark it can not get anymore points….so all the movies with the exception of Wreck-It-Ralph maxed out the category.
Looking at critics and audiences (I use RottenTomatoes, IMDB, and many others for these stats)…..here is how they rank.
#1 Frozen 84.3%
#2 Wreck-It- Ralph 84.1%
#3 Tangled 83.9%
#4 Lady and Tramp 81%
#5 Mulan 79%
#6 Lilo and Stitch 78.4%
#7 Peter Pan 77.9%
#8 Alice In Wonderland 77.0%
#9 Tarzan 75%
As for the 3rd part (Oscar glory)….all of them got nominated for Oscars…with the exception of Lady and the Tramp and Peter Pan. Two actually won it least one Oscar…..Frozen(it won 2) and Tarzan.
So Frozen is ranked so high because…it made a boatload of money(the most ever for a computer animated movie)….had great reviews and won 2 Oscars. Peter Pan is the lowest ranked of all these movies you mentioned….but it is still one of the highest ranked movies in my database…..it is #393 right now out of 15,654 movies….or in the top 2.5% of all movies ranked so far.
Are there flaws in my formula….off course…..but I think it is a pretty good way to compare movies from today and yesterday. Also I do realize that younger people look down on the classic hand drawn movies….as they are so used to computer animated movies…that they rate the older movies lower….which hurts their score in my system.
Looking at my Top 10…..I have one movie from 2013…4 from 1989-1994….but the rest are from the classic era of the 1930s, 1940s and early 1950.
I hope that explains my rankings a little more….ultimately a list like this is for discussion purposes only….as the best is like love…in the eye of the beholder….once again thanks for stopping by and commenting….it is greatly appreciated.
