  1. Hello – Yes I am a born Canadian – in Montreal. I did not realize that Donald was a Canadian. There are many Canadians in the movie and entertainment business. He has made some very good movies. I have enjoyed his movies – The Dirty Dozen was a very good movie and had lots of stars in it. Great Action too…He was good in Space Cowboys – I thought that was a good movie with Clint Eastwood and James Garner……..thanks for another great site. Love to see the personal information……………….

    1. This is Bern, I think?
That’s okay you did not know Donald was Canadian. I have what is known as Canadian radar….

      🙂

Happy to give you personal information on this family.

      1. You have good Canadian radar….very impressive…..especially how fast you found this page today.

    2. I’ve been promoting this page for 6 years. There are people all over the worldwho know about him INCLUDING THE STARS THEMSELVE WHO HAVE SENT HIM AUTOGRAPHED LETERS THANKING HIM.

      1. All of your efforts are greatly appreciated…..closing in on 7 million views…..speaking of our autographs we got one from Clint Eastwood the other…..this has by far been the best birthday gift I ever received.

        1. Clint Eastwood !? Can you take a picture and send me an email of it?

I have to brag about how I convinced Cogerson to do a James Garner page earlier than he might have done and then his daughter found it and attached your Garner page to her site Maverick’s daughter. I emailed her about her father too and she emailed me back. 🙂

          1. Sure I will get my official I-Phone photographers to take the picture in the morning…and send it to you….they are all currently fast asleep. A Garner autograph would have been awesome.

          2. I have always been impressed with how down to earth Gigi Garner is….a very nice lady indeed.

    3. Hey Bern1960…. Glad you checked out your requested page. Yes….I agree seems everywhere I look I see Canadians all around……and been that way my entire life…..lol. Dirty Dozen is an all-time classic is one of few still left all of this years later. Space Cowboys is a fun popcorn movie. Thanks for the kind words and the comment…..good to see around the message boards again.

  2. Been a fan of Mr. Sutherland since Invansion of the Body Snatchers scared me out of mind sometime in the mid 1980s. The ending of that movie is one of my favorite of alltime. Love him as Snow in The Hunger Games he made a great villain. Other favorites would include Animal House and Without Limits. I really think his best performance ever is in Without Limits. If you have not seen that movie you need to. It is awesome and sadly almost forgotten, though in this case it was never even remembered. Nice page. Congratulations on 400!

    1. Hey Stein. I agree he was one of the best parts in the Hunger Games movies. Actually my favorite part in the series….is his final 30 seconds when he gives out a huge laugh. Animal House is classic…..I will have to add Without Limits to my must watch list. Thanks for kudos…greatly appreciated.

  3. Thanks again to Bern for requesting another fellow Canadian!

    Movies and career…

As I have already mentioned in my previous comment, I am quite familiar with The Dirty Dozen. It is my favourite movie of several people in the cast.

During The Memorial Day weekend, I saw Kelly`s Heroes for the first time and enjoyed it. Kelly`s Heroes is the most recent Donald Sutherland movie I have seen for the first time. I don`t mean most recently released. I mean seen for the first time by me the most recently.

Donald Sutherland does not like to watch his movies. Ever since he saw MASH and saw a different edited movie than he remembers filming. He makes one movie as an actor. The director and editor make a different movie. So….he doesn`t see his films if he is not in charge behind the camera.

The highest ranking film I`ve seen is Number 1: The Dirty Dozen

The highest ranking film I have not seen is Number 2: I`ve not seen a single Hunger Games movie (cue gasps!)

The lowest ranking movie I have seen is Number 83: Shadow Conspiracy. Hence, the films I have seen are all over the list.

I mentioned after the recent TCM day of Jane Fonda movies I recorded a bunch of them and was unable to finish more than 30 minutes of Steelyard Blues. Did not want to finish it. I mentioned this on Jane`s page.

AS for films I have seen in their entirety, I hated Ordeal By Innocence- yes, it is Agatha Christie, but it was extremely depressing. I saw it once only.

Favourite film due to costars not yet mentioned. THE BEDFORD INCIDENT – Widmark! Poitier!

    Rankings:

    I have seen:
8 of the top 10 – Klute high on my to-see list
11 of the top 20 – two big favourites there
    14 of the top 30
    15 of the top 40
    18 movies overall.

    My favourite are:

    The Dirty Dozen
    The Bedford Incident
    Murder By Decree
    Kelly`s Heroes
MASH (yes, despite him not liking the editing)
    The Great Train Robbery
    Don`t Look Now
    Space Cowboys
    Invasion of the Body Snatchers
    Ordinary People.

    Great job!

    1. Hey Flora.
      1. I will fix your spelling error when I get to my desktop computer.
      2. Glad you enjoy Dirty Dozen & Kelly’s Heroes as much as I do.
      3. That is interesting about how he does not watch his own movies.
      4. Not a single Hunger a Games movie? They are ok movies…..but they peaked after the second movie…..in my humble opinion.
      5. Originally I was not going to include The Bedford Incident…..but when Billion Dollar Brain worked it’s way in……Bedford came along too.
      6. So you have 8 of the Top 10… But only 10 of the last 74 movies….I guess you have picked the right ones to watch.
      7. Tally count: me 44….. Steve 41…..and you 18.
      8. I have seen and enjoyed all of your favorites. Seems his movies are really good “event movies” or horrible “don’t bother to watch” movies….with not much middle ground.
Thanks for yet another entertaining comment.

  4. The always reliable Donald Sutherland gets ranked and rated.

Sutherland started off playing oddball soldiers in war movies before seguing into serious dramatic roles.

I’ve seen 40 of the 85 films here listed, 41 if you count Dr. Terrors House of Horrors, which I have on steelbook blu-ray.

Favorite Sutherland films include – Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Outbreak, MASH, Kelly’s Heroes, The Dirty Dozen, The Eagle Has Landed, JFK, Backdraft and Animal House.

Movies I’ve missed include – Klute, Ordinary People and Pride & Prejudice.

JFK beaten by the Hunger Games on the UMR chart, oooh the pain, the pain… good to see Dirty Dozen topping the critics chart and Body Snatchers is high up too, one of the few sequels that might be considered better than the original.

Never nominated for an Oscar? For shame, considering all the actors who’s names we barely recognize picking up Oscars every year… why even Harrison Ford’s been nominated a couple of times for chrissakes… [cue Bruce glaring] 🙂

Another epic movie page Bruce. Voted Up. Kiefer next?

    1. Yes, Steve. Keifer next. You see exactly why I requested a page on Peter Fonda. (By the way, Bern -Peter and Jane’s mother was Canadian too, just like your children and I am)

      1. Is it Keifer or Kiefer? Why couldn’t it be Keefer? What is Kefier? Is it some strange Canadian name? [cue Flora glaring] 🙂

        1. I tried to answer this. KIEFER is the correct spelling. It is not a Canadian name. It is a type of tree.

In other words, think Hippie parents.

          1. Specifically, Kiefer is a PINE TREE.

            Think Solei Moon Frye
            River Pheonix
            Rain Pryor.

          2. Well even you got it wrong in one of your posts, maybe I confused you. 🙂

Thanks for the explanation Flora. Donald played a hippie in Kellys Heroes, 25 years before they appeared! 😉

    2. Hey Steve….thanks for checking out our latest page. So you are at 41…. Not surprised you had seen at least one of those Lee movies. I am at 44 Donald movies watched. I think our favorite DS movies are almost the same….though I would include Eye of the Needle.

You know Ordinary People won the Best Picture Oscar…..does not that lone fact merit at least one viewing over the last 36 years? Klute has not aged well…..P and P is actually pretty good…..but not good enough to make my favorite DS list. Only one Hunger Game beat JFK……the best of the series…..#2. I think the critic audience rating was the best “default” setting for this page.

Yep the Academy has screwed up by not giving the man his due…heck he was the only one not to get a nom for Ordinary People…..it might be awhile before Keifer shows up on our UMR pages…..thanks for the comment.

  5. Third time I’ve tried to leave a comment Bruce on this fellow Canadian!

How was I not part of the people who requested this page?

Keifer was born in England while Donald was making The Dirty Dozen. But make no mistake, Keifer is a Canadian and his grandfather on his mother’s side was Tommy Douglas – father of Canadian public medicine.

Donald, Keifer and Shirley Douglas are the only Canadian family in the Canadian Walk of fame. Keifer has a twin sister who is not in the business.

This ends the bio comment. I will talk about movies in a separate post.

    1. Hey Flora turns out Bern1960 wanted this page for a reason other than him being from Canada. Thanks for including all the bio information.
