Want to know the best Dwayne Johnson movies? How about the worst Dwayne Johnson movies? Curious about Dwayne Johnson box office grosses or which Dwayne Johnson movie picked up the most Oscar® nominations? Need to know which Dwayne Johnson movie got the best reviews from critics and audiences? Well you have come to the right place….because we have all of that information.
When my oldest boys were younger they went crazy over WWF wrestling. Easily their favorite wrestlers were Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. If you would told me that in 15 years The Rock was going to be one of the most bankable movie stars in Hollywood, I would have told you that you were crazy. Well that is exactly what has happened. Dwayne Johnson (1972-) has been starring in hit movie after hit movie since 2002. He is showing no signs of slowing up either….he is currently attached to an incredible 16 movies in different stages of production.
His IMDb page shows over 110 acting credits since 1996. This page will rank Dwayne Johnson movies from Best to Worst in six different sortable columns of information. His cameos, shorts, straight to DVD movies and all of his wrestling appearances were not included in the rankings.

Dwayne Johnson Adjusted World Wide Box Office Grosses
Possibly Interesting Facts About Dwayne Johnson
1. Dwayne Johnson was born in Hayward, California. His father, Rocky Johnson, was also a professional wrestler as was his grandfather Peter Maivia….making Dwayne Johnson the first ever three generation professional wrestler.
2. Dwayne Johnson played football at the University of Miami. He was considered a NFL (National Football League) prospect before a back injury. After playing one year in the CFL (Canadian Football League) he decided to concentrate on professional wrestling.
3. More Dwayne Johnson football trivia: (1) While at the University of Miami he helped them win a national championship. (2) He was Hall of Famer Warren Saap’s backup at the University of Miami and (3) Was teammates with quarterback Doug Flutie during his one year in the CFL.
4. Dwayne Johnson became famous as a professional wrestler (The Rock) during his time at WWF (World Wrestling Federation) from 1996-2004.
5. As Dwayne Johnson’s popularity soured…..Hollywood came calling. After a small part in 2001’s The Mummy Returns he was paid a record $5.50 million dollars for his first ever starring role…..2002’s The Scorpion King.
6. Since the box office success of The Scorpion King…Dwayne Johnson has appeared in almost 2 movies a year. So far his movies have grossed almost $5 BILLION in adjusted worldwide box office. That number will be “almost $6 BILLION” after Furious 7 (2015) ends it’s box office run.
7. Dwayne Johnson has been married one time. He was married to Dany Garcia (1997-2001)…they have one daughter.
8. Dwayne Johnson has expressed his desire to play a villain in a James Bond film. He would once again be following in the footsteps of his grandfather, Peter Maivia. Maivia appeared as a Bond villain in You Only Live Twice (1967).
9. Of all the performers to get a Ultimate Movie Rankings page (200 plus pages)…..only Dwayne Johnson and Jennifer Aniston have made at least 20 movies and not had any of their movies receive a single Oscar® nomination in any category. Channing Tatum used to be on this list….but his Foxcatcher movie last year got him off this list.
10. Dwayne Johnson was Tim Burton’s 2nd choice to play Willy Wonka in 2005’s Charley and the Chocolate. Imagine what that movie would have been like….if Johnny Depp had not taken the part…actually it would have probably been better.

HI STEVE
Get ready to burn the midnight oil ! The Rock is on Film 4 movie channel at around 1.30 am on Saturday’s wee small hours in 2010’s “Faster”.
This time though the good guys seem to be on my side because you will see that in the table above The US Nation’s No 1 Worker gives is just a 52% critical rating and an adjusted worldwide gross of a miserly $40 million approx.
As the saying goes “Wake me when it’s over!”
Hi Bob, I’ve seen Faster though I don’t own it. Actually it wasn’t that bad.
I’ve watched (and own) Rampage but haven’t seen Dwayne Johnson’s other big summer movie ‘Skyscraper’ yet. Both films underperformed. Today’s biggest movie stars cannot guarantee a film’s success, there was a time when Will Smith had hit after hit, but not anymore.
Tom Cruise only gets the big grosses when he plays Ethan Hunt, the latest Mission Impossible is the biggest one yet, in unadjusted dollars. Last years The Mummy was supposed to kickstart a series of expensive horror epics for Universal studios starring the biggest Hollywood stars but it wasn’t a major hit and the critics hated it too.
HI STEVE
Thanks for the additional box office information, most of which was news to me. I agree with virtually everything you say.
If Faster hadn’t been on so late I might have given it a try as Billy Bob Thornton’s in it and he is another of those “oddball” actors who is usually interesting to watch.
However when one gets up into the seventies in age the old batteries usually are well flat after midnight so it’s my beauty sleep for me!
PS Can’t record Faster as I’m recording some other programmes and my system will let me record only 2 at any one time.
Take care.

Hey Ellen V. Thanks for stopping by and commenting on The Rock’s birthday. His career has been pretty amazing…..and there are many more blockbusters coming….starting this summer with his Fast and Furious spinoff. Good comment.

Welcome to our page Santhoshkumari. Always good to hear from such big movie fans.
Hey Bruce, Dwayne Johnson pays respects to Die Hard and The Towering Inferno “two classic movies that inspired me and generations, and became the inspiration for my film SKYSCRAPER” in his latest tweet. Let’s see if his new film does as well as those two classics.

Thanks for the feedback
Talking of action and superheroes we recently discussed some similarities between Jeff Chandler’s Jason Starbuck in Yankee Pasha and Indiana Jones. One great DIFFERENCE though that we didn’t mention was that Starbuck in that movie was 36 whereas in the as yet untitled Jones adventured scheduled for 2020 Indie will be 136 – well 78 anyway!
If they ever make a biographical movie about the declining years of the modern era action heroes like Sly, Arnie etc and are looking around for a title I hope they don’t pinch Laddie and Poitier’s 1960 “All the Young Men!”
Hey Bob
1. Harrison looked too old for the part in the debacle Indy Jones and the Crystal Skull….I can only imagine how old he will look in the new Indy movie.
2. I have to assume Indy 5 will be better than Indy 4…..how can it be worse?
3. Funny about All The Young Men.
4. Makes me think about the line……”Father Time is undeafeted”…..it gets us all…..I sure if Indy could see watching him….he would think….”That kid that watched Raiders of the Lost Ark is sure getting old!”….lol.
1 Years ago I used to love Bond and the other more brawny action heroes but I lost interest in Bond after Roger Moore as I thought the series had played itself out, which is still my opinion, and for me the other action heroes and their franchises also became too repetitive and boring and the superhero franchises now turn me off as well. I see that one superhero is being lauded for using swearwords.
2 However when I was into action heroes my favourites were in their time Sir Sean’s Bond and Sir Maurice’s Harry Palmer, and also Willis and Arnie. I liked Willis-Moore as I thought he was the best actor of the brawny bunch and I found him very funny when he did comedy, and Arnie’s poker-faced sense of humour was what mainly sold HIM to me– his dry wit in True Lies especially appealing to me.
3 Had they been active when I followed action heroes Dwayne Johnson would have been at the bottom of my list of those whom I would watch and Jason Statham would have been unwatchable for me. However Dwayne is likeable enough and is obviously an important star today having recently been listed along with Jackie Chan as the 2 highest paid movie stars around.
4 Also my grandson likes The Rock , illustrating the latter appeals to teenagers so all things considered Dwayne undoubtedly deserves this Cogerson page and albeit with reservations I will give this Johnson page a Lensman “Vote up” Certainly I Love the tagline on the posters for Rampage which show Dwayne with a huge gorilla and proclaim “Big meets Bigger!” The Stevies among the publicity boys have obviously had brainwaves!
Hey Bob
1. I also had a Bond “down time” after Moore…..since Moore left Bond it seems only about half the Bond movies impress. I am one of the few people (at least it seems that way) not impressed with Skyfall. I did like Craig’s first Bond movie…Casino Royale.
2. I liked Deadpool…..but I see your point about how the R rated superhero could make people turn their backs on the superhero genre. Deadpool’s success got Logan to go dark….and now Deadpool 2 is here.
3. The Planet Hollywood threesome made their mark in the action hero world….with Arnold and Bruce being in two of the greatest action movies of all time…Die Hard and Predator. Those days are sadly long gone…replaced with computer animation, sequels, reboots and superhero movies.
4. I love hearing the kids at work talking about The Rock and Kevin Hart….the “greatest actors in the world” at least according to them. The power of the Rock reaching Ireland’ younger generations.
5. I agree that is a good tagline. Thanks for the votes up, visit and comment….sorry that I missed this comment….but glad Dwayne’s birthday got me to notice it.
