Edward Norton (1969-) is an American actor, writer and director. He has been nominated for three Oscars® for his performances in Primal Fear, American History X and Birdman. His IMDb page shows over 35 acting credits since 1994. This page will rank 28 Edward Norton movies from Best to Worst in five different sortable columns of information. Television shows, shorts, cameos and movies that were not released in theaters were not included in the rankings.
Two of Norton’s greatest acting performances, American History X and Fight Club did not perform very well at the box office and have lower scores because of that fact. Some people might say my formula gives too much weight to box office results…..but ultimately the reason a movie gets made is for the producers/studios to make money and preferably a lot of money.

I’m excited for his new film, I wasn’t even aware he had one coming out… I’ll always love American History X though regardless of how poorly it did in the box office!
Hey Emily A. The Grand Budapest Hotel looks like a good one. As for American History X….great reviews and an Oscar nomination….help get it in the Top 10…even with a really weak box office total…thanks for stopping by
An interesting why to rank movies. I know Fight Club sucked at the box office but not in the Top 5? I do not buy it.
Hey Mark….I hear you about Fight Club. When looking at reviews by critics and audiences Fight Club is sitting in 3rd place….so losing only 3 more spots when box office and the fact in got no love from the awards. To score well a movie has to do well in the three main categories…Fight Club kicks ass in only one….all that being said…if this was my personal pick…Fight Club would be in my Top 3….along with Primal Fear or Moonrise Kingdom.
Thanks for the visit and the comment.
I think that Edward Norton’s best performance was in Moonrise Kingdom. His desire to be like good ol’ Harvey was really interesting. Then when he performed a miracle jump to save his hero. Good film
Yep his scout master was a good part of that movie…he must have had fun because he is now a regular in Wes Anderson movies….thanks for the comment.
Edward Norton eh, good actor. Primal Fear no.1? That was a surprise. I think that’s the first film I saw him in.
I’ve seen 12 of the 23 films you’ve listed, some good films on there I have yet to see. 9 from the box office 10 and 6 from the critics 10.
Prince of dual personality movies? I see what you mean, listing the films might spoil it for first time viewers.
Good work Bruce
Just to clarify, I’ve seen 9 films from the box office 10 and 6 from the critics 10.
So which one are you missing from the Box Office Top Ten….Moonrise Kingdom or Keeping the Faith…I am guessing….I am 9 of 10 there as well…..with Primal Fear being the missing movie for me.
In keeping the Flora spirit alive….I bet she would have seen 4 of these movies…so the tally count would be 19 for me, 12 for you and 4 for Flora….thanks for checking out my latest.
Hey Steve….I have seen 19 of the 23. I have not seen Primal Fear but my son says he just bought it on Amazon for .40 cents…so I will be up 20 very soon…and The Grand Bodapest Hotel is on my list as well.
Yep I did not list his many dual personality movies…so people might not the trick to some of those movies….every once in awhile I stumble across a Sixth Sense virgin…so I know those people could still be out there as well.
I think Edward Norton is the sexiest man working today. I can not wait for Budapest Hotel to open around me. I think his commercial will bring him back to the spotlight. As for your rankings, no problem with American History X but Fight Club should be 1st or 2nd.
Hey Victoria Princess….Thanks for checking out my Norton page. Fight Club is an awesome movie…but it did not do well at the box office….my formula uses box office in the equation….6th is still pretty good…and it is ranked 3rd according to critics and audiences. I will take your word about his sexiness….but I do like his commercials they are pretty fun.
